Watched Year 1 this weekend.  For a movie of essentially fart jokes, it's great.  Just keep that low-brow humor in mind and you're good.  Ridiculous and hilarious.

Saw Bruno last night. It is the most boring, disgusting, morally reprehensible movie I have ever seen. While Borat actually had a point in exposing the stupidity and hatred of America, Bruno is is simply an hour and a half of homophobia on the part of the film makers themselves.

If it makes you feel better its take has dropped steadily through the weekend.  Generally a bad sign.

It hasn't gotten great reviews either.

I felt dirty every time I laughed at Borat.  I watched it with a buddy of mine who happens to be Jewish, and when Borat started chucking greenbacks at a couple cockroaches he thought were lycanthropic Jews, we both lost it.  VERY NICE!

Bruno just seems silly.

Saw two movies recently.  I saw The Half-Blood Prince in the theaters, and saw Watchmen on DVD.

The Half-Blood Prince was a decent book-to-film adaptation.  It cut out a lot of plot points, but let's be honest, none of them would work on the screen.  As far as movies made about books go, this one actually did well.

Watchmen was excellent.  The ending has been changed from the Graphic Novel slightly, but it works.  The guy they got to play Rorshach was perfect (to give you an idea: the actor playing Rorshach will be playing Freddie Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot next year.  Excellent job.)  Also, much less glowing blue penis than advertised, which is either good or bad.  The sex scene in the middle dragged too long.  I agree that the scene was important enough to the plot to be included, but it got old quickly.  There are some minor changes, but really I was satisfied with the interpretation.

If you like those films, you might enjoy Meatball Machine.  It's more along the lines of Tokyo Gore Police than the others, but with aliens instead of tumors. :P

The Color of Magic took an hour or so to grown on me, but it did.. not bad for a tv production...

i would have prefered they use a real orangutan.

I just watched Otis (2008), a very weird direct-to-DVD movie that my sister in law brought over.  It's supposed to be a dark comedy about a serial rapist/murder, although it's pretty tough to turn a lot of aspects of it into a comedy.  It really wasn't all that good, and it was pretty predictable in a lot of parts as well.  My wife and other sister in law hated it.

what? otis is a great movie.

by great i mean really well done, has a good ratio of quality / cost of production. acting was good enough, story was good enough...  its good enough in every way..

its not high art... but its a nice budget horror movie. one of the best iv seen in a long time.

I like how "good enough in every way" translates into a great movie. ;)

I found some parts quite hillarious, but all in all, it wasn't my thing.  That, and I had my wife and sister in law complaining behind me the whole time. :p
