Recently finished reading Machiavelli's The Prince. Machiavelli was surely a very intelligent man, and he pointed out a lot of truths that remain true even today, but I take issue with the fact that his treatise on how to be a good ruler mostly translates to "how to stay in charge", surely at least in part due to the time it was written in.
Still, altpersona might want to give it a read, lest the "nobles" of the forum usurp him... ;)

Next up, some more Nietzsche. After that, Discworld. :D

The library put it into rotation today, and I'd already put it on hold so I'm the first one to read this copy.  :)

You say that like it's a bad thing. I've been meaning to read that voluntarily. :P

I've read about half of it when I was supposed to write an essay on social democracy and communism politics and thought I might as well get back to the original source. I may be a left wing nut-job, but man that was boring

Oh, it's not a bad thing. It's certainly interesting, I'm just not sure I agree with some points it makes.

Trying to start A Game of Thrones, but I can't seem to get into it. I finished the Darkness That Comes Before, I highly recommend it to anyone who's a fan of dark fantasy.

Some points that are still relevant, but I hate how he is associated with the realist theory of international relations, because it's bollocks.

I'm reading Ways to Influence Your Favorite Author to Quit Stalling and Finish His Damn Series Already, in preparation of hunting down George R. R. Martin and making him finish Dance with Dragons.

Aside from that, I'm rereading my way through my library. Eddings (Belgariad, Mallorean, Elenium, Tamuli), Salvatore (Drizzt stuff, Cleric Quintet), Pratchett, Gibson (Cyberpunk), and Jacqueline Carey (Kushiel Trilogies).

I'm dreading picking up the Kushiel Trilogies again. Those books rip my goddamned heart out every few pages, step on it with high heels, then take flechettes to it the way Melisandre uses them on Phaedre. Every time I try, I have to put them back down - they're that good, that I don't want to put myself through that heart-rending emotional roller coaster again.

Also, part of my way of preparing myself for the last half of NaNoWriMo, in which I'll load myself up with inspiration via reading all those books during the first two weeks, then using the last two weeks to go into a flurry of writing.

A lot of reading on my plate, got an essay deadline ahead of me and I'm breaking my habit of last night preparation. Der Derian, Hoffman and others have made their way to both my shitlist and list of people I find most interesting.
