Thoughts on Castles & Crusades?
« on: October 20, 2011, 06:38:43 PM »
I was looking around for alternative D&D systems and settings to try something new, and I stumbled upon this game.  Apparently it's based off of the older versions of D&D.  According to Wikipedia it uses a lot of the d20 system mechanics but eliminates skills and feats in favor of the Prime System, where character class and race make some attributes "Prime," or better than others.

Has anyone here had any experience with the game?  What did you think of it?  Since it's based off of D&D, how different is it in terms of mechanics?  How much versatility is there in character customization (are you chained to your race and class or can you play against type)?  Are characters dependent on magic items and equipment?  Is there a power/tier gap between casters and noncasters?
