Creating a Perpetual Undead Creating Machine?
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:47:49 PM »
So I'm trying to create my character's own Dungeon / Base of Operations and I'm trying to think of how to properly make some consistent method of getting undead.

I imagine casting Energy Transformation Field (Sorc/Wiz 7 Spell Compendium pg. 80) tied to Greater Planar Binding.  Next I imagine an Undead Warlock constantly utilizing Eldritch Blast to power the field and next I imagine an already created swarm of Greater Shadows descending on the summoned creature and turning it into a new spawn.  I imagine this process repeating itself indefinitely.

Now a few questions.

1. Any way to have desecrate consistently in the area?  I know energy transformation field absorbs all spells cast into the area, could we somehow get an altar to move into the field at opportune times?

2. any better way than having a permanent Undead Warlock cast Spell-like abilities?

3. I want to keep the newly created undead trapped there indefinitely.  A warlock is easy because greater shadows only inflict Str Damage and an Undead warlock would be immune to that.  However, to prevent the shadows from escaping would require walls of force.  Is there a limit to how many incorporeal creatures can share the same space?

ok, i have never heard that question before, "how many incorporeal creatures can share the same space?"

i think for clarity they need size indications. how many medium sized / tiny / gargantuan ....

I don't think there is a limit, no. Ethereal creatures bump into each other as they would on the material plane, but merely incorporeal ones don't.

I think there was a magic item, much like a Darkskull, that made a permanent desecrated area around it. IIRC, it was the Deadwalker's Ring, or something like that. Give that to your pet warlock...

Well, permanently desecrated altar would be optimal I think.
I don't recall how to actually make it permanent on said altar, other than to throw a spell clock at it.

Combine Energy Transformation Field with a Spell Turret. Don't have to spend your time powering it.

A gygaxian dungeon is like the world's most messed up game show.

Behind door number one: INSTANT DEATH!
Behind door number 2: A magic crown!
Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY!
They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.
Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die,
One for the Wizard on his dark throne
In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.

Spell turret or magical trap (I forget if they are identical). That'd cost 500 or 1000 gold for a Inflict Light Wounds trap (DMG page 71).
If I say something about real world physics, and someone disagrees, assume I am right 90% of the time. This number goes up to 100% if I am late night posting - trust me, my star dust sibs.

Eh, if you're just throwing around negative energy black sand is cheaper.

...I guess dissolving corpses is nonideal...

A night-caller (LM) will let you have each of your undead create two more humanoid skeletons.

id probably achieve this in this way:

1) lvl 1 psion + Practiced Manifester & Inquisitor Feat, lvl 1 thrallherd, lvl8 Dread Necro, 10 levels to play with.

2) Find a crypt, cave system, mausoleum, or abandoned castle/village/dungeon to use as a base of operations.

3) buy, or craft a Minion's Coffin - http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20021031x (if you can craft it, make multiple. Minion's Coffins are extra-dimensional spaces much like bags of holding, such spaces have limited oxygen supplies) and create a trap of automatically resetting desecration.

4) Wait 24 hours for thralls to arrive, order 18 at a time to enter minions coffin and close it behind them.

5) Wait 10 minutes for the thralls to suffocate and die inside, then open all the coffins and proceed to create all the undead you want through your own animation. (or place animating traps inside coffin, it has room for 18 corporeal undead, pretty sure a small trap will fit in there)

6) order the now 18 undead to come out and replace them with 18 fresh thralls.

8) repeat process till you run out of thralls, restart at step 4).

Or i guess you could create a magical trap of planar binding + dimensional Anchor and reverse gravity (which will last 1 round) (automatically resetting every other round within a temple with an evil altar. Thus the trap repeatedly summons outsiders, binds them to the plane, then forces them to fall upwards, then fall back down, then up, then down, repeatedly colliding with the ceiling and floor to take fall damage till it dies. Then reanimate it afterwards, voila, undead outsiders.

Edit: This would also require several autoresetting ghoul glyph traps as well.

Edit: Dont expect them to come out 'pretty' if your summoning demonesses ;p.

I think the whole process would be a lot simpler if you took a Spellthief, used Animate Dread Warrior on it, and Spellstitched it with the necessary spells.
