Seeking help with my character concept
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:04:34 AM »
I can't change the monk levels, and I trying to stay away from the teir 1-3 classes this game. So I wanted to try to play a assassin type character this time around. I'm trying to focus on debuff my target as much as possible so the target fails the fort save on Death Attack

My character at lvl 7
Race:human
Stats:
STR   12
DEX   18
CON   18
INT   18
WIS   14
CHA   17

invisible monk2/hexblade 4(dark companion acf)/assassin1

Feats:
TWF
quick draw
point blank shot
ability focus; Death attack

My question is how might I get my target's fort save lower? ( I have UMD as a class skill and plan on using spell storing weapons as my DM rules that on hit effects from my weapon hit before Death attack)

Thanks for you time :)

Edit
So I was looking at some of the handbooks and saw bestow curse...
hexblade companion -2 to saves
hexblade curse -2 to saves
bestow curse with spell storing weapon -4 to all saves

If that stacks then its a -8 to their saving throws making the Death Attack dc of 17 somewhat more scary at lvl 7

We haven't got around to looking at Dragon Compendium yet so I can't use that atm.

As to the Paladin of Tyranny, its 3 lvls, I've thought about that but I feel I get more with the hexblade 4, and If I did that then I would have to wait till lvl 10 to get into assassin. Thanks thou :)

Edit

I think you ment to suggest how to get my saves up rather than to lower my target's saves :)

With what you've got, you'll be fine.  Also, a simple dip into homebrew to make the death attack DC equal to (1/2 HD + int mod) would make a pure assassin infinitely more playable.

Keep in mind there's also a one-hit-kill swordsage strike, in Shadow Hand.

You can bind Focolor for aura of sadness. If you want to keep in for more binder than that you can get another aura I think of despair from chaupclops. That not bad, its an automatic -4 just for getting adjacent.
-6 w/dark companion before any other actions...

Warlock give you swarms if I'm reading you right.
You can take martial study/stance and get sneak attack as a stance
also
Binder gives you sneak attack that increases by level.

I mean their immune to sneak attack and thus I can't use Death attack against them. I was wondering if there was a way to sneak attack them ( swarms and elements that is).

Penetrating Strike.  Forget where, but arguably it gives you 'sneak attack' against swarms and elementals and whatever else.  It actually gives 1 point of damage per sneak attack die, but calls that 1 pt a 'sneak attack' multiple times in the text so god knows.  Custserv has come down on both sides of the issue multiple times.

The best version of that is actually in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.  The second best is in Dungeonscape.

But swarms aren't subject to flanking.  Come to think of it, neither are elementals and oozes.

The Dungeonscape version of Penetrating Strike is an ACF that has you give up Trap Sense so you can do half your SA damage against targets immune to critical hits. Check page 13 for the full description.  I don't have Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, so I don't know what that version entails.

Hexblade 4 (CW): Dark Companion (-2).
Paladin of Tranny 3 (UA): Aura of Despair (-2).
Bind Visage (ToM): Bind Focolar for Aura of Sadness (-2).
Sickening Strike (DotU): Ambush Feat, Sickens the target (-2).
Terrifying Strike (DotU): Ambush Feat, Shakens the target (-2).
Bracers of Murder (DotU): +2 to Death Attack's DC, reroll SA's 1s, +2 profane to attack/damage vs flat-footed foes.
Ability Focus(Core): +2 to Death Attack's DC.
Effective +12 to the save DC right there.

Negative levels can help (a lot) too.

Actually, Paladins of Tyranny have a debuffing aura.
I was going to suggest 3 levels of PoT for this, as well.

Hexblade 4/PoT 3 gives you some solid debuffing options, full BAB, and good HP. The good saves on the monk levels stack nicely with the Cha boost to saves you get for HB and PoT. Also, the requirement to be lawful evil doesn't violate the lawful requirement of monks of the non-good requirement of hexblades.

You won't be a power house, but it looks like it fits the power level you're looking for.

Edit:
There's a feat in PHB II (Brutal Strike?) that lets you Power Attack with a blunt weapon and sicken the target on a failed Fort save (-2 to saves and other things).
