3.5 Ravenloft: Accepting player(s)
« on: September 01, 2011, 04:09:24 PM »
The Haunt
We have 5 players, originally was supposed to be 6 but someone isnt able to join us, so I figure that I will be nice and open up a spot to anyone interested.

Our game currently is comprised of all people Iv known IRL. But we are more than happy to share the RP love with anyone. The gaming style I run is about 50/50 roleplaying/hack'n'slash. Its a Gothic Horror theme. High magic and power, medium-high character optimization. Low magic item availability(as per Ravenloft flavor item shops are very rare)
What I am looking for here is someone who just wants to have fun :D and can post 3-6 times a week. It works out to once a day, or once every other day, afew days at the latest hopefully(and life happens but we try to keep the story going as best we can).
We use mythe-weavers and invisible castle.

Possibly looking for a CO-DM as well.
Basically someone to help run encounters and possibly RP some NPC's? Not sure if anyone would be willing to jump in for this but it could be pretty fun to have someone to conspire with  :devil

Go ahead and take a look at my house rules, check out some of the game and post here if your still interested.

Looks interesting, I don't know much about Ravenloft but it always sounded like a neat setting.

Edit: What party role is lacking? Arcane caster? And it seems most of you have huge backgrounds, is this a requirement?

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri rock! I need scissors! 61!

The nice thing about Ravenloft is you can create a character from any setting, then just be brought in by the mists. They all have a giant back ground because this is actually a continuation of the game we played IRL.
A good solid background is nice because it gives me more to work with for your character but its not essential.
New players could easily be brought in by the Mists and simply looking for a way home, being oblivious to the history and background content going on around them.

As for the party, we have plenty of healing power. Some good melee options, I think the area we are most lacking in would probly be some type of caster class.

Heh aye the length of the backgrounds is a wee bit intimidating.

It also seems that the party is mostly of good alignment?

The different settings also make it alot easier.

Yea the party is all good aligned players.
Basicly the story is that for a short time some "heros of light" managed to cleanse Ravenloft of the dark magic that controls the mists.
But the heros vanished, and now 100 years later the mist has returned. Bringing strange monsters from the darkness, and dropping unsuspecting travellors into foreign lands.

So any good character would fit in just fine. And yea Ravenloft makes it very easy to fit any character into the game. Any campaign setting is fine, as is any race/template as long as it falls within the house rules concerning ECL.

As I posted earlier you dont need to have a huge background story, most of my other players do because we all have alot of back story put into this world. The players are all actually the original "heros".
That was just a old campaign that we finished. This game is a continuation of that old game, just 100 years later.

I hope that wasent to confusing haha

Gah, don't tease people dna1.
Don't put "player(s)" in the title when you're after "a player", you'll give all us second-in-line blokes false hope after ShadowViper swipes the only spot ;)

Shadow Hunter the spot has not been filled my friend. Also I may be convinced to let a second player join, nothing is really set in stone  :D
If you would like to play then pretty much everything I have said here applies to you as well  :P

Shadow Viper happened to reply first, but until I actually select someone and post here it is still open. I was actually hoping that I would have more than just one person interested  :thumb

Don't you tempt me. I spent all day yesterday reading up on your game and trying not to convince myself to play in it. I'm already in way too many PbP games and have far too many character ideas floating in my head, especially with the whole import from another world aspect of it.

Sorting through ideas at the moment(and plotting in PMs), but still highly interested!  :D

My spontaneous idea is to either do a Elven Generalist/Mage of the Arcane Order, for the all around basic generalist wizard or a Binder of [X] race.
Currently leaning on the Wizard though. Is there any Arcane Order in your setting dna1?
I'd like to take that PrC, but if there's no such organization, that just won't be possible.
Oh, Complete Arcane, page 48. Right.

Hrrm... wait just a minute...
2 level adjustments for free.
Drows counts as Elves for all purposes, basically.
That should mean that a Drow wizard can take the Elven wizard substitution levels from Races of the Wild.
Requirements
To take an elf wizard substitution level, a character must be
an elf about to take her 1st, 3rd, or 5th level of wizard.

Generalist Wizardry: A 1st-level elf wizard begins play
with one extra 1st-level spell in her spellbook. At each new
wizard level, she gains one extra spell of any spell level that
she can cast. This represents the additional elven insight and
experience with arcane magic.
The elf wizard may also prepare one additional spell of
her highest spell level each day. Unlike the specialist wizard
ability, this spell may be of any school.
This substitution feature replaces the standard wizard’s
ability to specialize in a school of magic.
...or I could just go with a Grey Elf, since I'm going to make a Good character anyway. He's still not going to be conforming to his races norms, so Evil or Arrogant, it really doesn't matter what the natural preference is.
There aren't any other Elf variants with +Int as far as I know, so those are the two options so far.

Not going for anything high-powered, I just want to make a competent all-round wizard.
Building personality slowly as I'm getting the ideas that I like, but for now it seems like I'm heading for an NG Grey Elf Generalist 5/MotAO 3.

@ Arcanis - Mwhahahahaha! You know you want to  :devil

@ Shadow Hunter - Looks excellent. Arcane Order does exist, its probly pretty rare but Im sure there is afew followers floating around out there somewhere.
Yes drow would count for any elf PRC etc. A drow would fit in fine if thats what your interested in. Really any race/template is fine as long as a good aligned character is made.

@ Viper - A sorc could work very well. Whats the standard LA for hobgoblin? Im AFB at the moment. As far as the Tiamat worshipper goes I just dont think it would work out.   :(

I'm kind of interested, but not sure what I'd want to play. Probably would go with an already built character due to lack of time to build one from scratch...

However... I'm tempted to try a "mole" ToB type with the mineral warrior template (for a burrow speed). I'd take Spring Attack, Scorpion's Senses (or some other way to get Tremorsense), and pop out of the ground and hit people with maneuvers, then pop back in. That's not exactly all that great for the party, but it sure as hell would be fun...  :P What exactly do you have in the party now? Do they currently have a trapspringer/rogue type?

Or hell... I guess since you're in an area with a bunch of werewolves, that a were-(dire)badger (holy crap they have massive stats! and I'd get the Rage!) could work for a burrow speed, also, and would be hilarious. :D

stub
dwarven dire-badger lord (afflicted) fighter (lion totem barbarian?) 1/animal 3/warshaper 2/warblade (crusader?)2

stat adjustments (animal or hybrid form): +8 str, +6 dex, +14 con, +2 wis (+4 more str/con when raging)
+5 NA in animal or hybrid
burrow 10' (animal form only, 20' when focused)

Feats: Hidden Talent, Iron Will (bonus), Speed of Thought, (Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack.... maybe... rethinking this...)

Later: Deepwarden for Con to AC? More warshaper?
Goddammit... now I'm excited to play this guy.  :D Build tinkering moved to here. Will work on a background later. He'll basically be a haughty dwarf with a hot temper.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

We currently have....
Aasimar, Paladin/Fighter
Wood Elf, Fighter/Ranger/Master Thrower
Elf, Arcane Archer(pretty sure)
Dragonborn, Kensai/Hellreaver
Half Fey, Eldritch Disciple/Mystic Wanderer(something like that)

This is a good alignment campaign. We use Mythweavers and Invisible castle for everything  :D The game is on hold until monday because of the holiday weekend.
So by Monday I will have chosen and will be writing that person in with my first update that day.

Oh my, your house rules and setting certainly look too tasty to pass up, but you've already got 4 or so people going for 1-2 spots. Hmmm...

Standard LA for Hobgoblin is +1 but that's really only because it gets no attribute negatives. But if the tiamat worshipper idea(supposed to be a secret!) isn't going to work out then I will not be using a Hobgoblin. At the moment I am at a loss for a Good or Neutral sorcerer concept. But may just do a human sorcerer 10.

I would love to get in on this, but I think I have my hands full already with the game I just started.  If another spot opens up later though I would definitely be interested.

Working on my "got-infected-by-the-plane-of-shadow-from-playing-with-artifacts-he-should-have-stayed-away-from" Shadow Creature Grey Elf.
Arathiel Amastacia, NG member of the Arcane Order, interested in all things arcane and their various applications, with a willingness to go out and risk his neck to retrieve these for the greater good of society.

Got a bit of a conundrum though, I can't decide upon taking Fast Healing 2 or DR 5/Magic...
I've got 36 Hp, any suggestions dudes?

If it were me, I'd go with fast healing, but that's just me. Personally, I would imagine there might be enough enemies at this level that would have magic weapons or magic natural weapons.

As for me, I'm almost done with my Beguiler/Shadowcraft Mage. I'm excited for the possibility that I might get to play this character, who is one I've played in other campaigns, especially since this game puts him at just about the right point in his personal timeline between the other two campaigns to explain his build progression. Plus, he's got a built-in background.

Sheet in progress is here, btw: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=326959
