what's that rumbling?....
« on: August 23, 2011, 04:44:00 PM »
5.8 magnitude Earthquake in Virginia

I felt it, but thought maybe someone was just dragging something heavy in the room next door. Most of the people here at work seemed not to notice. It's kind of a semi-industrial area with lots of noisy equipment, etc. So I got up, looked around and didn't see anything out of the ordinary or anyone else reacting, and thought "am I crazy?" and just went back to work.

Then my wife called me in a semi-panic and said she'd ran downstairs because she thought we'd had an earthquake, and I was like "Oh, so I'm not crazy."  :lol

This was the first one I'd ever experienced. How many of you have felt the earth shake?  :smirk

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

Yeah I was about to post on this. It looks like it hit most of the east coast, so it was probably a huge fault line or several setting each other off. I have seen one report of one in CO as well. I know a guy in Michigan who said he felt it as well as another all the way in Toronto.

BGs you guys all good? Meg must either be loving or hating this.

IF i rmeber how earthquake works,it's cuz it was clsoe to the surface as to why it was felt all over the east coast.

Heard back from a friend in CO the southern part of that state got hit as well. Lot of people freaking out but so far nothing major that I've seen.

Yeah, we have some friends in Jersey just outside NYC that said it shook their apartment quite a bit.

I was wondering how close you were/are to the epicenter.
Glad y'all are OK.

My brother was in DC and saw a couple buildings sway a little bit.
I told him to Not be upset when his girlfriend told him the earth moved and he wasn't reason why.
 :D

I'm two states away, and I felt it.
I dutifully went to the USGS web site and posted my "experience".

I had my rather large and well padded butt (not that anyone needed the reference)
... planted on a Tempurpedic seat cushion. A real one.
And I felt it through that.
Sweet !!
Chair started moving ... hey it isn't that tractor going by.
I'm guessing I was in a sub 2.0 richter shaking area.
But yeah, lots of people in the larger shake zone.

HEY !
No aDMg's got a sensitive Butt jokes.
Don't do it.
 :p
