Wild Magic zones are cheap Heals
« on: August 11, 2011, 04:45:31 PM »
I was taking a closer look.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/planes.htm#wildMagic

So you make a Scroll of Level Zero spell with CL=1 and ~33 charges (on average).
And you ping the snot out of it, over and over.
At some point you'll trigger the Heal 30' effect.
 :D ... cheap as hell.
Might get hurt a little before the Heal effect gets triggered, but so what.

If you make an item with the casting of the spell within the Wild Magic, can you capture the effect?
Some of the wild magic results are replacements of the spells cast, with differing spells, directly.
You could make an item. The item would just have a different spell in it.
As in whoopsy, hey this is useful. Or is this trending into houserule territory?

Psi 8 power Chaos Fissure causes:
all psi powers to wild surge and all spells to have Wild Magic applied to them.
I don't think this is a good cost/benefit, but is an extra bippie on an unused power.

Other possibilities ??

HAH! Genius! This also can be triggered by Spell-like Abilities. So any race with a harmless Spell-like ability at will could sit around and do this over and over till they get the Heal effect. As long as their party can all fly, levitate, and/or are't harmed by falling (if they hit Reverse Gravity), none of the other effects will really matter to them. The worst thing (if falling isn't a problem) seems to be being hit with a glitterdust effect. So with enough time, this can be free Heals for the whole party.

This isn't the easiest unlimited out of combat healing effect to pull off, but it probably is the most humorous.   :lol

It's fine as long as the recipients are willing to suffer a reverse gravity and/or fall into a pit for the effects and can survive them multiple times until the heal effect arrives.  That being said, Heal "heals" a lot more than just hp so still a good find. :)

And as Phaedrus said, if everyone in the party can fly or levitate, the pit/reverse gravity effects really don't matter.

To speed things up, having something to manage the deeper darkness/silence effect would be nice, instead of waiting a few rounds for it to expire on its own, but that isn't really necessary.

This could be incredibly fun, nice find!

It only takes an average of 21 charges, actually. 4/100 uses result in the Heal effect, but 16/100 result in no spell slot or item charge being expended. You should still carry more than 21 charges, though, as that only has a 64% chance of getting at least one Heal. A full wand (50 charges) has a 92% chance of getting at least one Heal effect. I'd suggest a wand of Cure Minor Wounds to heal up the falling damage from pits and reversed gravities (flight or a good Tumble skill also helps).

Another use for a Warlock?
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

Ahh yes. A Warlock Cohort Mistress works pretty well with Soulfire already. She makes you hot and ready to burst, and some times, just occasionally, she makes you feel really good.

Meh, could just use any of the buff invocations repetedly until you get the Heals.

Sure, suck the fun out of it. ;_;

Pretty sure everyone was thinking buff spells, it takes a genius (or at least someone perverted and bored) to come up with the other idea.

Note: This only works if you are using the pansy official table. REAL MEN use the 10000 result Net Libram of Random Magical Effects (fun for the ENTIRE party. Of the DF sort.)
[spoiler]Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Just a random thought, but ... hells I wouldn't have known about either Archangels daughter or Saeomons niece if I didn't happen to be on these threads.
Sounds fine to me.
probably over on "Off-topic".
might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post.

This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu".

Thanks for the pat on the back, y'all ...  :)

I think a couple of things give Detect Magic at-will.

Any other ways to get Wild Magic going ??
Quick trips to the far realms, is a little tricky too.

I think that one is randomized. Planar Bubble (or w/e) along with some sort of creature native to a Wild Magic plane would work.

If there isn't any, Genesis up your own maybe?
