They were a real mythological fey, who were said to lure victims away and drink their blood.  Just in case you didn't think that's really what they did.

There's also "Unholy Toughness", the Ex ability from MMIII... not sure if there's a template to get it, and you could probably get a homebrew feat approved.
No template for it, and only certain undead are supposed to have it (even vampires can't get it retroactively which is stupid).
Except for savage progression vampires, who get it because savage progressions are awesome.

That is absolutely awesome. I never noticed that before.

Of course, you have to spend seven levels with a gradually decreasing con modifier to get it, but still.  At least you can cheat a bit with legacy champion and uncanny trickster...

now I want to actually stat that up.

Only if you have a DM who'd actually allow that.

Q296: Do you have to trip specifically with the weapons that say you can trip? If so, is there a simple tripping weapon with reach, so that a cleric can pull off the Guisarm and Spiked Gauntlet trick without the war domain?

The only simple weapon with reach is the longspear, and you can't trip with it.

If you're willing to spend 15 gp per battle, you could use a wand of master's touch (Spell Compendium) with the magic domain or a use magic device check.  It's a swift action to cast and lasts a minute at caster level 1, so with a wand chamber (Dungeonscape) and the rule that wands of swift action spells can be activated as a swift action (Rules Compendium) it's not too difficult to implement.

If you're only planning on tripping and not attacking normally (possibly including the followup attack from Improved Trip), the -4 nonproficiency penalty doesn't matter too much on touch attacks. On the followup attack from Imp Trip, you can at least take heart in knowing that the +4 attack granted for attacking a prone foe cancels out the -4 penalty.

You might find it worthwhile to just dip a PrC that grants martial weapon proficiency and casting at level 1. There are worse options than, say, Prestige Paladin, especially if you can combine it with the Paladin alignment variants also found in UA to not necessarily have to be LG.

Q 297: I've got a large creature with claw attacks and improved grab.  What ways are there to efficiently give him bonuses to grapple checks?  Or is there a way to get a clawed creature Improved Grapple without needing Improved Unarmed Strike (since he really has no need of it)...?

Q 298 Is there a rule somewhere saying if an NPC with a higher point buy system than a PC should be +1 CR than that of one using the elite system? Just read an adventure and all of the villainous NPCs either have a 36-38 point build, or the person who made it rolled really well with his 3d6.

Q 299 Is there an old 72-78 point stat system listed somewhere? I think it was 72 for NPCs and 78 for PCs.

Bear Totem Barbarian 1 works for this, IIRC.  Make sure you go with the Complete Champion version.

Although Improved Unarmed Strike gives him more attacks, so I don't see it as being a waste.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

It will be a waste because his main tactic will be picking people up, fly up with them while grappling, and then dropping them off a cliff (it's a Nycaloth).  So he won't be doing very many full attacks, but pwning people on grapple checks will be important.

The Complete Champion version gives Improved Grab (which a Nycaloth already has), not improved grapple.  The Unearthed Arcana bear barbarian gets improved grapple at 2nd level.... it's doable if I lose a few of his other, racial HD-granted feats... (need to give him 3 specific feats)

Q 300: Is a native outsider (on the material plane) subject to banishment or dismissal?  The entry for the (native) subtype in the SRD says they are native to the material plane.

Nope.  Technically, the (native) subtype applies to any outsider on their home plane.  It's impossible to Banish a demon from the Abyss, for example.

Q301: What would be a good pose to draw a CE and somewhat insane, heavily scarred halfling lady rogue/invisible blade in? She is the former nobility vagabond outlaw sort, with expensive clothing ill kept, and uses daggerlike weapons including daggers and warfans and such, not a dual wielder. Preferring to just be her rather than including another entity, and wanting to draw this as a gift for her player.

The native subtype only applies to outsiders from the material plane...

Quote
A subtype applied only to outsiders. These creatures have mortal ancestors or a strong connection to the Material Plane and can be raised, reincarnated, or resurrected just as other living creatures can be. Creatures with this subtype are native to the Material Plane
