New Game: Myth-Begotten (recruiting)
« on: July 25, 2008, 05:46:57 PM »
WANTED
Adventurous individuals skilled with weapons or magic.
Moderate risk, substantial reward.  Please apply in person
at the headquarters of M.Y.T.H. Inc.
(Two rows south of Spicemarket, across
from Habul's Rug Emporium.)

You've been at the Bazaar for a while now.  Perhaps you got here through your own abilities; perhaps you hitched a ride with a dimension traveler.  You were sure that here, in the commercial center of all the worlds, you would be able to make a name for yourself, and a fortune to go with it.

You've learned a few things since then.  One is that it's not going to be as easy as you'd thought.  Yes, this is the commercial center of the multiverse, and that means that competition here is fierce.  For every possible job opportunity, there are a hundred would-be heroes eager to sign up.

The other thing you've learned is that the Bazaar is expensive.  What money you have earned has barely been enough to keep you fed and lodged.

The flyer attached to the message board in the center of the square gets your attention.  Not because of flashy magical animation or pyrotechnics--some of the other notices on the board sport such enhancements, but this one does not.  No; it's the name that grabs your eye.  M.Y.T.H. Inc. has a hefty reputation--they're the ones you go to when nobody else can do the job.  It's common knowledge that the Merchants' Association of Deva pays them to keep organized crime away from the Bazaar.

A successful job for M.Y.T.H. Inc. would be exactly the kind of thing that would make a freelancer's reputation.  Of course, an unsuccessful job could BREAK that reputation just as easily...

(Basic rules for the game are in the accordingly-labeled thread.  I'll be taking six players for the time being.  Character concepts can be posted here or sent to me via PM, as can any questions.)

Ninja first slot. Now the only question is, what the hell should I play?

Oh! Perfect idea! I'll PM you the details.

This sounds cool as hell, but it sounded like there are alot of people interested in it in the other thread. If a spot is open, I wouldn't mind playing, as long as posting once per day is good enough. Also, I haven't read the book(s), but I have played Rifts and in other "multi-verse spanning" game settings.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

I'm here for the job listing. *shows flyer*

I'd like to play a changeling warshaper beatstick.

My goal is to get the reach and try to be battlefield control/deterrent(gonna take the goliath barbarian sub level if Racial Emulation is allowed). Socially, I'm looking to be intimidating/formidable looking; much like Chumley (and Gus to a lesser extent).

This could change if a controller isn't desired, or other mechanics need covering.

I'm on with a hectic few weeks atm, and have had to scale back my pbp commitments.  But that should hopefully clear up in mid-August and I'm definitely still interested.

First concept = Cupy Enchanter (probably Focused Specialist, tho the 3rd school to prohibit is a very tough question), likely heading for a Mindbender dip and then maybe some Master Specialist/War Weaver/Recaster (if the racial prereg could be ignored).

Also, as said, I would like a Blink Dog familiar.

Background-wise, I envisage the two of them as old army buddies - served in Special Forces/SAS/similar as infiltration specialists, but have recently quit the forces and decided to go freelance.

So, the first couple of mechanical questions:

1. Could I use the Enchanter Social Proficiency sub level(s) from UA?

2. Could I apply the Dungeonbred template (Dungeonscape) to my Blink Dog?  It's CR+0, but normally it can't be put on a Medium creature, but if it's okay to bend that rule it'll do nicely to make a dog equivalent of a Cupy.

Hmm...I see you don't have the Genuine Archer race designed yet.

I'll give others priority for getting into the game. If there's still slots open a few days from now I'll whip up a character sheet.
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

Actually, I'm putting the finishing touches on that; the residents of Archiah are, for the most part, human--but they qualify for the True Archer racial paragon class, which I will be posting shortly.

I'm still interested, with that Trollop Knight Phantom.  Maybe with a slight reflavouring - more flashy illusionary abilities, less so much with the shadowy darkness.  Although maybe a goth-esque Trollop might work.  Hm...

Question guys:  Which build do you think would be the most valuable to the party?

The first idea is a Spellthief 4/Duskblade 16 with an Earth or Air elemental as his Familiar, or something along those lines. Basically "steal your shift, hit you with it". Using Master Spellthief to make it work.

The second is very similar, but much more deadly. Duskblade 13/Nar-Demonbinder 2/Abjurant Champion 2. LN/E, worships either Wee-Jas, Heironeous, or Hextor (not sure which one yet, will not be used if you don't want a semi-evil PC). Basically uses Arcane Channeling with Harm and other goodies, and spells cast at CL 17th-19th. Uses and abuses Arcane Disciple as much as possible.

The third is a Human Paladin of Tyranny 4/Hexblade 2/Ur-Priest 4/Contemplative 1/Warpriest 3/Ordained Champion 5. Divine Gish from hell and back, and a cohort who can fill in the Tank or BFC requirements.

The last one is a Warforged Duskblade 5/Warblade 1/Jade Phoenix Mage 4/War Weaver 5/Abjurant Champion 5. Basically a Multi-Gish-Buffer in the form of awesome. Needs PH2 and Bo9S, but is the most party-friendly. Very cool too. You've stated that MM3 and Heroes of Battle are allowed, so I will be using them to their fullest. Party-buffer and Arcane Channeler. Will be using Arcane Disciple to get one or two domains, both of which will help the party.

I can't decide myself.

Well. I'm a 'non-evil' kinda guy, so I vote for the first or last. Summoning baddies to fight baddies in Myth-verse seems kinda weird to me, the way I envision it, anyway. The buffer is cool. Robot magician from...dang I don't think I know a name of a mechanus-like dimension. Why not Mecha, or somesuch? ;)

Personally, I am looking at a Mimic (changeling) Urban ranger 1/ Swashbuckler 3/ Warshaper 2/ Cabinet Trickster 1. Basically I was trying to read their minds occasionally (I only just now noticed Dave the Magic Weasel's Enchanter Face/Radar-capable character...), be a party face/infiltrator/info gatherer. Hoping to have some combat effectiveness, should it come to that ;) Details here.

I realize that this is a shift from the tripper/controller. How can I get large size and a large number of attacks for making sure that the enemies are where I want them? (on the ground!)

Thus far, submitted concepts are a "go."  ST, I still need to know which character you'll be using.

Skeeve: check the rules thread, please; I've posted the True Archer class there.  It's a rough draft, and subject to tweaking if there are things you feel need to be changed to capture the feel of a native of Archiah.

Missing the Power Shot description, but so far it looks good.

I'll be on vacation/holiday Aug 3-10, with limited connectivity, though a slim chance of no connectivity. Max post count for a game would be one per day during that time.

I followed the previous thread and this one, but I probably won't be able to obtain and read the book in time (busy relocating thousands of kms away).

Still, I wanted to ask: how would an Artificer fit in this world ? A Binder ? Thanks.

Warforged Duskblade build. I'll save the fun ones for another game.

Artificers not only fit in the world, they're central to it; all those magic items available for sale at the Bazaar don't just pop out of nowhere!  "Mechanics" whose magical powers come entirely from items are well-known (one of the major characters in the series, Maasha, would arguably be an Artificer.)

Binders...well, they don't fit quite so neatly, but it's a big multiverse; there's room for just about anything.
