What do you buy for the druid who has everything...?
« on: June 18, 2011, 04:11:47 PM »
More specifically, how do you spend your WBL in a game starting at 1st level, as a primarily melee druid, using Aspect of the Wolf as a combat buff before Wildshape comes online, and is rarely if ever humanoid for combat purposes? The nice item + Wilding Clasp combo won't be viable until 8-10th level.

Also, with Natural Spell, and a functionally graspy set of hands (Girallon's Blessing, dire ape form, etc.) can you use spell trigger/ spell completion items?

Well, at 1st level I'd get some scrolls of utility/healing spells and any skills kits you might need, as well as back-up weapons/armor. Once you hit 2nd, I'd grab a wand of CLW/lesser vigor, and another wand with aspect of the wolf or any other spells that are largely CL-independent. I'd also buy a second animal if it won't slow the game down too much.

There are some items that keep their bonus with wildshape without a wilding clasp, like owlfeather armor in the MIC and the sets in complete champion. Once you're 5th or 6th those are probably worth getting.

You've also got an animal companion - you can just spend a lot of WBL from levels 2-5 on buying some decent items to beef him up.

^This. And depending on how much you dumped Str and Dex, armor + Shillelagh might be a better combat choice for a while.  You need armor and a weapon anyway, since you only have a limited number of spells.

And depending on how much you dumped Str and Dex,

*Quite* thoroughly.

At third level, I'm doing rather well. Only once at first level did I have to resort to using the scimitar. I have a nice pile of utility scrolls, and a wand of Lesser Vigor. I can regularly get Mage Armor from the Beguiler.

I went with Aspect of the Wolf over Shillelagh for low level combat for the duration, and because I was able to put my crappy (rolled) stats in STR , DEX, and CHA.

I've hesitated to buy non-magical items for my swindlespitter, as I think I will eventually upgrade to something bigger. Any good, low-level magical items, that I could use for a bigger critter in a few levels?

Sell your animal companion. Get another one. Sell that too. Get another one. Sell that one as well. Get another one. Then buy it some magical gear.

Oh Lycanthro, is there any flavor you won't break?

Don't SELL animal companions!

Just sell their venom! Really! Swindlespitter venom = expensive!

I would consider the dinosaur to be a masterwork tool. A high quality one at that.
