Assume Supernatural Ability
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:14:03 AM »
Just curious about y'alls intepretation of the Assume Supernatural Ability feat (savage species).  For example, let's say you wanted a breath weapon.  Possible readings of the feat (from least restrictive to most):

1) Get any form's breath weapon.
2) Get dragon breath weapons.
3) Get a black dragon's breath weapon.
4) Get a very young black dragon's breath weapon.

And has anyone seen rulings, Sage responses, etc?

Thanks   :)

I would think that as long as it has the same name, you get it.

So if you choose the assume supernatural ability (Breath Weapon) feat, you would get anything labeled breath weapon, but not if it's labeled something else in the entry. If the ability was for example called, Acid Breath Weapon, and you just chose breath weapon, you wouldn't get it. If it was called five breaths of Doom, you wouldn't get it.

With Eye Rays, or Manipulate Form, the abilities you get are rarer, but often better.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

imo, if the text of the ability calls it a breath weapon, its a breath weapon.

PAO references Polymorph, which caps at 15hd or the caster's CL, whichever is lower.
PAO is an 8th level spell with most likely a level 15 caster (and CL).
Soo ...
1) Yes so long as 15hd cap and it is (su)
2) same as 1
3) same as 1
4) Yes ... the fact that the hd are lower than 15 is of no consequence.

" ... eye rays ... " and why he said that.
Elan with lower Int. than a Beholder + PAO = Beholder
Get the PAO before you start training at level 1.
2 assumes later = smidge of silliness on that "other: thread.
