Help with gangster-esque hafling
« on: June 07, 2011, 03:45:09 PM »
I've been inspired by JaronK's 'Grace Under Fire' thread to start putting something together for my Pathfinder Eberron game.

Strongheart Halfling Pathfinder Ninja1/Targeteer1 Crossbowman Archetype/Nin1/Tar3/+Warblade and Halfling Outrider

He's a Boromar Clan enforcer/hit man, using stealth to pick people off from afar but also busting down doors and using his great crossbow like a Tommy gun.  I'd quite like to give him quick draw and the two weapon fighting tree, primarily so he can drop the tommy gun and use dual hand crossbows but, and I don't know how feasible this is, dual wield great crossbows for the iconic gangster image.

Halfling Outrider for him to gain a dinosaur mount, probably a fleshraker, as this fits the Boromar Clan and dinosaur drive-bys just seem to good an image to pass up.

(all 3.5 feats, prestige classes and items allowed (sadly pathfinder only spells), alternate class features allowed provided they don't need any alteration for what they change)

Starting level 8 - likely to run to level 20 but unsure at present.

1: PBS;  Precise ShotB;  Rapid ShotF;  Deadly AimF;  (proficiency with shurikens, bastard sword, other exotic weapons)
2: EWP: Great Crossbow & Hand Crossbow;  Vital AimB
3: Crossbow Sniper;  Hand Crossbow FocusComTrick; (Poison Use)
4: Mounted CombatB
5: Mounted Archery, (Deadshot: add half dex to damage on readied attack)
6: Weapon Specialisationb
7: ???

Any assistance greatly appreciated.   :)

Another option might be, still keeping with the idea of a 1920s gangster with emphasis on tommy guns, to have the halfling take levels in Luck Stealer (RotW). You can have the guy walk around with a coin, and talk about chance & fate all the while stealing luck from others to gun them down.

The problem with dual wielding crossbows is that while you can fire them with one hand, you need a free hand to reload. So, unless you can grow a third arm it won't work.

Of course, this being DnD and all, getting an extra arm isn't exactly impossible.

I suppose two levels of alchemist would net me the the equivalent of Molotovs as well as grant a vestigial arm to load the crossbows as as a +4 alchemical bonus to dex.

Or you could get someone to Persist Girallon's Blessing on you.

Sadly, only pathfinder spells allowed.  So a lot of transmutation options are out of the window.

What I'm working with so far:

Sylden Boromar [ex-Ghallanda]
Strongheart Halfling (same as realms but with +2 cha)

Alchemist 4/Targeteer4/Warblade1(+11)

Vivisector: +2d6 Sneak Attack instead of bombs

Flaws: Excoriate (Ghallanda), Vulnerable

Traits: Reactionary, Accelerated Drinker

1: Alch1:  Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim
2: Targ1: [EWP: Great crossbow, EWP: Hand crossbow] Vital Aim
3: Targ2:  Hand Crossbow Focus, Crossbow Sniper
4: Targ3: Deadshot (replaces Armour Training)
5: Targ4: Mounted Combat, Mounted Archery,
6: Alch2: Discovery: Vestigial Arm
7: Alch3: Weapon Specialisation: Hand crossbow
8: Alch4: Discovery: Feral Mutagen
9: WrBl1: Weapon Aptitude, Manyshot

I don't know whether alchemical allocation can feasibly be claimed to work with oils so I can repeatedly use a high level oil of Greater Magic Weapon but probably not.

I'll probably take Wild Cohort at some point for a tough Fleshraker, but will using a bought and trained one until then.

Equipment of note: +1 Aptitude, Assassination Great Crossbow (18400ish), potential a CL20 Oil of GMW (3,000gp?), various poisons.

and to dark samurai: I had a look at the luckstealer but it doesn't really fit the concept as I'm wanting a combat focused character.  (I always play casters).  And, it, erm, doesn't look very good, even for a caster...

thank you though!
