Level 20 One Shot
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:34:19 PM »
This OP is going to be particularly not helpful, but that's mostly because the rules are short.

Making a character for a one shot to be run in the future.  The DM described it as "Fighting the hardest stuff the MM has ever had".

I am to make an ECL 20 character to fight said monsters, there will be little time spent out of combat from what I understand.

32 Point Buy
Any 3.5 Book

Okay that's basically the rules.  What would you play?  Once we decide on something we can optimize it.

Preliminarily I have some goals:
- Do not end the combat before it even starts.  Infinite anything counts as such.
- Try not to outshine the other players to the point where they wish they weren't playing.  Unlike my normal threads, I am willing to outshine the other players in this game because it's a one shot, they know I'm in to this sort of thing and that's sort of the point of the one shot.  I just don't want to make them feel like they're not having fun at all.
- Planar Shepard is out because of my own interpretations of goal 1 and goal 2

Off the top of my head, I started considering one of the Prestige Classes that persist things.  Either Incantrix or I vaguely remember some sort of dancing class that did something similar.  I'm not completely sold however, and have considered just being silly as well with Truenamer 19 // Commoner 1 with Chicken Infested.  The only player who has even an inkling of what he's going to play is a player who is considering Cleric DMM etc.  I should probably at least be able to keep up with that.

Edit: After I study a bit for my final tomorrow, I'll post something up.  Probably involving Incantrix, but possibly Spelldancer if I can easily think of a way to be immune to Fatigue.

In my humble opinion, CO is haberdashery. Some say we're mad, but we can all agree we're hatters. Yes, we have potential to make very sophisticated hats, very fancy hats, be they dark or light. But the truth is that the color of the hat does not come from the group of us - our community doesn't directly produce hats. We simply give average head circumferences, list current fashion trends, and point out some shiny, obscure baubles to add to the latest hat line.

Better yet, changeling double-focused transmuter/illusionist.

Okay, it's been a long time without a post, but I have been thinking about this.  I know this is some thread necromancy, but the alternative is that I make a new thread that says the same stuff.

Rules so far:
32 Point Buy
Any 3.5 Book, 3.0 Books by Approval
Dungeon + Dragon are OK
No Flaws
Leadership is banned, because it takes too much work

So here's what I've been considering:

Human Wizard (Transmuter) 3 // Pit Servant* 10 (CD) // Incantrix 3 (PGtF) // Dweomerkeeper 4 (CD Online Supplement)**
Banned Schools: Evocation, Enchantment, Necromancy***
Alternate Class Features: Fighter Bonus Feats (Unearthed Arcana)

[Human] Iron Will
[Wizard 1] Improved Initiative
[1st] Extend Spell
[3rd] XYZ [Retrained from Sanctum Spell]
[6th] Improved Familiar (Beholderkin, Eyeball)
[9th] Spell Mastery
[12th] Craft Contingent Spell
[Incantrix 1] Persistent Spell
[15th] Extraordinary Spell Aim
[18th] XYZ

Constant Buffs:
Greater Mage Armor
Spell Immunity, Greater
   XYZ
   XYZ
   Feeblemind
   Shivering Touch
   Disintegrate
Resistance, Superior
A Contingent Spell of Some Sort

*Pit Servants: An adaptation of the Rainbow Servant, it is entered early by taking Sanctum Spell (which is later retrained).  Pit Servants are servants of Lawful Evil outsiders, such as Pit Fiends and as such Detect Good instead of Detect Evil and receive the Fire, Evil and Law domains.  They grow leathery wings, such as those possessed by Pit Fiends.

**Dweomerkeeper is the class I would like to finish the build with, but as of yet I have no way to gain the Magic domain and qualify.  Other qualifications should be present.  The only way I have so far is to drink a Domain Drought every single day, with magic inside.  They're only like 1500gp crafted, so at least that's not awful!

***Necromancy is banned upon entering Incantrix, but by then all spells of note should be copied in to your spellbook so you may continue to cast them at a later time.

Items of Note: (The DM allows items to be slotless for double, as per the MiC)

Tome of Int +5
Luck Blade (0 Wishes)
Belt of Magnificence +6
Belt of Battle (Combined with Magnificence or adapted to another slot)
Anklet of Translocation (Slotless)
Phoenix Cloak
Tome of Wizardry Vol. 1 (Masterwork Spellcraft Item)
Item of Spellcraft +15 (???)
Quarterstaff +1 Eager / +1 Warning
   w/ Wand Chambers containing
        Wand of Snake's Swiftness, Mass
        Wand of Nerveskitter
Item of Leading the Attack (Slotless) [Used to Qualify for the following item]
Item of White Raven Tactics (Slotless)
Ring of Counterspells
      Truename Dispel
      Dispel Magic, Greater
      Dispel Magic
Boots of Temporal Acceleration
Ring of Freedom of Movement
Boccob's Blessed Book
3 Candle of Invocation
Enveloping Pit
Heward's Handy Haversack
Heward's Fortifying Bedroll
Headband of Conscious Effort
Starmantle Cloak
10 Hand of Glory (Slotless)
    Ring of Protection +5
    9 Other Rings
Amulet of Natural Armor +5 (Combined with Second Chances?  Slotless?  Who knows.  perhaps it's a ring that I wear on my hands of Glory)
Amulet of Second Chances

Wizard 5/Mindbender 1/Incantatrix 10/Shadowcraft Mage 4.  Oh, and make sure you have both Touchsight and Transdimensional Touchsight incarnate as well.  No save versus awesome, and no effective limit to your power, while appearing realatively innocuous in a DMM Cleric environment.  Just don't kick his dick in the dirt on turn 0 too many times ;)

I don't suppose... I don't suppose I could get you to play a barbarian 20?
You'd basically be playing as Hawkman from the justice league or Swift from the authority.
I'm thinking a raptoran barbarian. I've been thinking about making one for the pop culture 3.5 thread
but I'm thinking it'd be good. Street Fighter variant, cleaving charge... its actually pretty hardcore.
Thats what I'd play. I mean it'd use ferocity variant too, so it could get the whole reactive rage thing going on.
I don't know how much you feel like casting spells though.

Have fun
+1, and not even for linking a sorcerer. Just points for the reference.

P.S. a bard would have captured his entertainment value better.
