Optimizing a Truenamer (fix/replacement homebrewed)
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:03:13 AM »
Okay, what can you get this Truenamer do, using this version of it , by level 15th using all 3.5 books, except BoVD, BoED, Monster Manuel 2. Only these from SRD/UA are allowed :
    * Environmental Racial Variants (existing races only)
    * Elemental Racial Variants (existing races only)
    * Racial Paragon Classes
    * Variant Character Classes
    * Specialist Wizard Variants
    * Class Feature Variants
    * Character Traits & Flaws (A maximum of 2 Traits and 2 Flaws allowed on a single character.)
    * Spelltouched Feats
.
The Lexeme, from the same homebrew is a possible use as well.

Looking for, ways to increase the True speak check without magic items, spells, item familiars, or masterwork tools(since they no longer work for it), which of the new "abilities" are good.

There are very few things that boost your Truespeak checks with Kellus's Truenaming. Off the top of my head, Marshal for Motivate Intelligence and Exemplar's +4 competence bonus.

I find it rather lacking in the early levels, where your buffs are small and your offense is negligible. A good greatsword to the face will usually skip your enemies past your absolute limit at 1st and 2nd level. Slick the Surface is decent BFC, at least. At higher levels, you get better buffing effects (although still with painfully short durations that prevent prebuffing and eat actions in combat) and rather efficient methods of finishing an enemy off. However, your enemies still have to be significantly injured for you to finish them.

I looked through the full list of vocalizations available a while back. My take on them individually is in the spoiler. A lot of them are very lackluster until about 7th-10th level. Take this how you will, but I evaluated them a while ago, and I think I may have been too critical on some of them.

Okay right now for max modifier I can get by level 15 is
18(ranks) +4(INT)+(3 CHA/Marshal), +4 (Exemplar)+3 (Skill Focus:Truenaming) Truenamer 13/Marshal 1/Exemplar 1
For a +32 so far. The highest 5th level Vocal needs a DC of 40. Spending the 72,000gp for the +6 int and +6 Cha item will increase it the modificer by 6, so +38.
Or find a way to reliably get natural 20's. I know there is a discharge able spell that get one, but spending a spell for a weaker effect won't be efficient.

Most of the effect are kind of weak, so outside of gestalt, or using dual class prestiges like The Cosmos Translator(same page as the fix) it would only fit well in lower power groups.

The standard Custom Universal Item of Skill Checks booster.
or
The 2nd level Cleric spell un-updated 3.0 material, gives a +20 to a check.
Make an Item of that.
or
The Xth level Psychoportation power un-updated 3.0 material, gives a +10 or Trained to a check.
Make an Item of that.

Takes care of the early levels problem, say around level 3.

The alternative Tiles thingy, with repairing loophole, trick around here somewhere still.
Takes care of the midrange levels problems.

That's pretty much it.
And Garryl.

Here is a character I made using that specific truenaming fix.  Some of the stuff I've used is unrelated homebrew so you might not be able to use it, but you might be able to get some ideas from it.
My babies - A thread of random builds I've come up with over the years.
