Can a 6th level duskblade take improved familiar as a feat without having taken obtain familiar earlier? Or is obtain familar a prerequisite for taking improved familiar. It seems quite ambiguous. What's the general consensus amongst you fine folks?

In order to take Improved Familiar, you need to be able to acquire a familiar in the first place. For Duskblades, that usually means taking Obtain Familiar first.
