Persist Spell without being a wizard/cleric?
« on: April 12, 2011, 09:21:34 PM »
I am thinking about playing a Ranger in an upcoming campaign. Is there anyway that a ranger can Persist spells to last a longer period of time?

As an example, I figured this one could be nifty. Unfortunately its one round.

LIGHTFOOT
Transmutation
Level: Asn 1, Rgr 1
Components: V
Casting Time: 1 swift action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 round
You move with unearthly agility.
You provoke no attacks of opportunity when moving.

You just get a Wand Chamber with that and use it whenever you need it. I my home campaign we've been using it a lot to avoid Thicket of Blades.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.

You could pick up a few levels of Spelldancer (magic of faerun) to go along with your Ranger and Spelldance to Persist your spells. Of course, this requires setting feats on fire, but you get one of them automatically (Endurance). Unfortunately, it'd be Ranger 11 at the earliest before you could enter it. Of course, you'd need some sort of multiclassing to meet the Perform checks, anyways...

I prepared irresistible phantasmal killer today... as a 4th level spell.

What's the source of that spell? It could be decent to persist as a prestige ranger or as an archivist.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

It'd probably be easier to just get +24 Tumble (or +14 and Skill Mastery).  It'll do the same thing most of the time.  Cityscape will let you drop Ride for it.

The Tainted Sorcerer PrC can do it, especially with a one level Binder dip for Naberius.  Free metamagic all day long!

Won't work, you still need to be able to cats spells of the level the metamagic spell would of cost, so need to be able to cast 7th level spells to persist this one, and rangers only get up to 4th, and even mystic rangers only get to 5th.

Mystic Ranger with a cleric dip for DMM is an option
