Metamagic and Cleric Domains
« on: March 29, 2011, 04:10:20 PM »
Are you able to perform metamagic feats on domain spells?

For example, if I have the Travel domain, and Longstrider is a 1st level spell, can I use a 2nd level Domain spell slot to Extend Longstrider?

Yes, if you are capable of casting second level spells.

You are incorrect or lacking in requirements "Gods_Trick"  :D
To use a 1st lvl domain spell together with extend you must have:
The spell you are trying to augment must be in the domain in question.
You have to have the metamagic feat in question.
You have to use up a level appropriate available domain spell slot.

The spell you are trying to augment must be in the domain in question.
Since all your domains share the same domain slots, it would be more proper to say "the spell you're trying to extend must be on your domain list".  If only he mentioned in the OP that he had travel domain.  Oh, wait, he does.  If only he - oh, look, longstrider, travel 1.
You have to have the metamagic feat in question.
He was asking if he could use his metamagic feat.  Of course he has it.
You have to use up a level appropriate available domain spell slot.
You mean, like, a second level slot for a first level spell?  As stated in the OP?

@The_Mad_linguist: Yeah I know. It was sort of an attempt to be funny on "Gods_Trick"'s post that said yes if he had the second lvl spell slot. That was also implied in OPs post.
OPs post made perfect sense and a simple yes would have sufficed.
But I couldn't help my self :P

Fair enough.  I've seen people who thought that first level clerics totally got all their domain slots, and could metamagic their domain spells from the beginning...

Actually, that was the misconception I was trying to address. If if he was first level, but assumed he had his domain slots up to nine. Honestly, that seems the only reason to ask the question, unless theres anything suggesting you can't metamagic domain slots  :rollseyes ?

So ... funny? Don't see it, but it has been remarked I'm oblivious to certain attempts of online humour  ;)
