Board Slowdown?
« on: March 11, 2011, 03:51:47 PM »
Been having problems with the boards; page loads have been extremely slow today, with most quitting at a white screen or giving a "Connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" message. It seems to have cleared up for the moment, but it took me 45 minutes to navigate to a thread on the third page of the Homebrew forum. Might well be fixed now, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention, at least.

While I'm mentioning it, any word on what's up with the white screen errors with the "Cannot connect to SMS Database. This can be caused by a busy server, please try again later" errors (or similar, I'm not 100% sure if that's the exact wording)? They've been pretty erratically popping up every so often for the past few months, and while I thought I heard mention of them somewhere, I haven't been able to find it so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the work you do maintaining the boards!

I just got one of these slowdowns.... they are taking nearly 1 minute to load on my end (but that's probably my ISP  :rollseyes)

seemed to be a problem this morning; but everything seems to be fine now (at least, as far as I can tell).

Yeah, looks like the first was a temporary problem. Still getting,

"Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."

I got the error message properly since it just happened. Anybody know what the status on that one is? It's been a problem for a few months, at least.

boards have been throwing lots of connection problems pages

boards need custom connection problem pages, something funny would be good.

Yeah it's pretty damn annoying. Especially when it happened and I couldn't recover my entire summary of the round for my battling party. Is there any way this can be avoided/fixed?

Unless the browser itself fails, couldn't you just use the back arrow to go back a page and copy-paste your post from the text field?  I've done that more than once.

Oh I've done that before too. But on once occasion it has deleted my post. I thought it did it last night too, after punching in the last line of the round summary. A LONG round summary. I about lost my shit completely but I reloaded the page afterwards and it returned. I promptly began screaming there is a God at the top of my lungs.

I've been getting hit with slow to load/failure to connect problems for the last week and a half or so, at first I figured it was just my school's terrible internet service, but it has continued on once I left. Glad I learned from other terrible forums long ago to copy my posts before sending them in.

Yeah good job, I've been copying all my posts as well before I even so much as try to preview them. I'm not losing another HUGE round summary again.

On another note, it keeps auto-logging me off while I'm in the middle of writing a post. I have my settings set to Stay Logged In Indefinitely so I'm not sure why it's logging me out.

Am I the only person with all these problems lol? It's getting quite frustrating.

Edit: As I posted this I received the connection issue again... as I said on another board, is there a way to donate to BG and have them fix these issues? They are really stressing me out and I'm smoking a fat doob too.

I've had a similar issue, not while posting but just in general, but I'm pretty sure it's to do with Firefox and plug-ins, because it had never happened in 3 years of browsing through Safari.

I use Chrome and haven't had those problems, so that's not it either.
