A lance deals double damage when used from the back of a charging mount.

Quote from: Dance of Death
you can move up to your speed and make a single attack against any creature you move past

Does this mean I can use Dance of Death while mounted, have my mount charge a guy, and hit everyone else that we pass for double damage with my lance? After all, the lance description doesn't say you have to charge. It says the mount has to.

I'm also still debating whether it is worth it to sink 3 feats into getting Knock-down to use with Paimon. As cool as it would be... it's really only going to be good against a bunch of mooks... Which makes it situational for relatively non-threatening situations, and probably not worth 3 feats... Especially since I'm playing a race with no real advantage on trip checks.

And is warblade or swordsage a better dip? I was thinking warblade at first, but now am considering swordsage for the ability to take Shadow Blade and Assassin's Stance... With Paimon Bound, that +Dex to damage is pretty significant. I won't be able to use a reach weapon like I'd planned, though... or at least not at the same time. It would let me use a rapier + shield, though, which I'd been considering.

It basically comes down to reach vs. concealment, since the damage from Punishing Stance about equals what I'll gain by changing to a rapier from a 2-handed weapon.

Even better, planar bind a nightmare and have it transport you in exchange for a daily fee.

A little Item trick:
Shield of mercy (MIC p21, 2170 gp) + a vestige that grants smite (Andras. The Triad, Desharis) use one of your 1/5 round smite attempts to heal instead of doing ekstra dam. Now you are an off combat healbot without having to bind Buer.

Andras and Desharis - extra dam = binder level - so this is even better than Buer (that caps at 1d8+5)
The Triad is only smite 3/day - so not so usefull...

You may not have shield prof. - but who cares - being able to use the shield for protection is just and added bonus.

Do you think it would be worth it to take a level in marshall to get motivate wisdom, for use with summoning a warstrith from fiend folio? They get spell like ability Symbol (any) but can try and break the summon with an opposed wisdom check? Is there any other way of adding your cha to wisdom checks?

This actually sounds like a GREAT trick.  I like it.  I hope to have some spare time tomorrow or the next day to work on this.  It's starting to bug me and I think it needs an overhaul.  If you want the old guide I recommend saving it in the next few days.  I'm not sure how much of it will survive my remake.

In my humble opinion, CO is haberdashery. Some say we're mad, but we can all agree we're hatters. Yes, we have potential to make very sophisticated hats, very fancy hats, be they dark or light. But the truth is that the color of the hat does not come from the group of us - our community doesn't directly produce hats. We simply give average head circumferences, list current fashion trends, and point out some shiny, obscure baubles to add to the latest hat line.

For Zceryll users, finally a reason beyond Will saves not to sack Wis.

The Wastrilith (Fiend Folio) can be summoned with SM IX and has the ability to use Symbol (Any) 3/day as a spell like ability. They also have the ability to break the summon if they can win an opposed Wisdom check. They have a +1 bonus. So below is what my thread on this has come up with to avoid failing the check and letting a CR17 monster loose on the party and countryside.

http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=12890.0

You need to be able to automatically beat a check of 21, so the options for improving a wisdom check that I've found are.

Take 10 on the check
Level of Marshall with Motivate Wisdom to add Cha to Wisdom Checks and Wisdom based skill checks
Modified Circlet of Persuasion to improve Wis instead of Cha
Shapechange into a Illumian with the Hoon sigil
Periapt of Wisdom
1s are not auto failures, neither is a 20 an automatic success

You can also debuff their wisdom.  Which is probably easier.

With their spell resistance and the fact that this takes place the first round that you summon them, I'm not sure if it would, minimum SR 25.

You'd definately want some backup in any case, especially if you're summoning this before 18th level. CR17 that can drop 3 symbols of death/insanity/stunning around itself in 3 rounds is not something to take lightly. Though I suppose it could be good for XP farming if you didn't have any other options available. :)

Giving it penalties on ability checks is a good way to go.  Summon up some devils with a fear aura first (Bone devil is nice), then be sure to summon the Wastrilith in the area of the aura.  Hezrous also have an aura-like debuff that will help, but oddly, only if the wastrilith makes its save (Nauseated doesn't cause any numeric penalties, unlike sickened).

I would have suggested binding Folacor, but he only affects attack rolls, skill checks, and saves.

Yeah, but we need to penalize Ability Checks, not Saves.

Okay found a way to do it fairly easy as long as you have access to the summons from the book of exalted deeds. One of the sm ix monsters from there, I want to say the fierre, gets casting as a 12th lvl cleric, have it cast Surge of Fortune from Complete Champion so you can take 20 on your check, then you just need a +2 modifier to always beat the warstrilith.

Well this is all moot now, Jacob has been utterly destroyed by an advanced Huge Sized, Spell Stitched Dark, Dust Wight. DM swears he stated it out at CR 17. I don't think he did it right especially considering that it was part of the previous encounter and had backup. It turned 2/4 of the party to stone, including Jacob, with its aura in round 2 DC 24 Fort was not good enough to save, and then smashed the sorcerer the next round. Only our swift hunter escaped, and that due to the GM relenting. Fight didn't last two rounds after it entered the room.

I don't think it was a fight we were meant to survive, it came in immediately after a fight with a high level sorcerer who was throwing quickened spells and we didn't have any time to heal up or allow for my summons or breath weapon to recharge.

Kinda pisses me off but what can you do?

Since I'm not playing this character anymore I don't think I'm going to be making any more progress on my Summon Monster Document, does anyone want to take it over? If so I can send a copy of my Open Office document or a PDF if you'd prefer of what I have done. Its intended to be a document of all the 3.5 legally summonable monsters with the pseudonatural template applied. I got most of them, 80 pages worth, between SM iv and ix except for those listed in the book of exalted deeds.
