Another (rather irrelevant) note on the non-culinary use of salt: Get some rock-salt(those large grained kind), load your 00-buckshot cartridge with them, and watch the intruder scream in pain :devil

And the goat-lick-salt-from-feet deal, the version I've heard is that the goat does not eat your feet(they are herbivorus for crying out loud), it's the EXTREME itchness that make this a torture technique.
