Race for an unarmed swordsage?
« on: February 02, 2011, 07:06:35 PM »
I am hoping to play an unarmed swordsage soon heading towards the Shadow Sun Ninja PRC but I am unsure of race does anyone have any advice?
Am I the only one who's mind was broken when they realized the implication of the existence of the aberration bloodline.

Human is always a good idea. And unlike with most martial-type classes, initiators are good with Small races as well (especially swordsages), so how about a strongheart or ghostwise halfling?

Look for Wisdom and Strength and Constitution. Or bonus feats.

Anthropomorphic bat would be an interesting choice.

Go go +6 Wisdom! And a fly speed!

Human per usual. I personally prefer Silverbrow Human for the slowfall, but to each his own. Perhaps one of the Lesser Planetouched?

You said Shadow Hand, which makes me think stealth... Whispergnome gives +2 Con (but -2 Str) and great stealth.  Human is as always a decent choice.  You might also consider Dragonborn Water Orc... +4 Str, +4 Con, -2 everything else and you get either really nice senses, a breath weapon, or wings.  Also, you can swim quite nicely.  Strongheart Halfling takes a strength penalty but gives you a feat and you're small.  Buouman (sp?) gives +2 Wis and I think -2 Cha, so that might be worth going for too.

  • It can only be attributable to human error.

I second whisper gnome, +2 to con and dex and -2 to str and cha are great for a dex based swordsage. Also they get great stealth.

Nobody mentioned Warforged?  I would think that the ability to use a Battlefist would be heplful.  Warforged Scout works for more stealthy types.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!
