A character who can cast all spells in SpC?
« on: February 02, 2011, 03:55:37 PM »
Hi all,

So I have been re-reading the Spell Compendium and thinking about how awesome it would be to have a character that can cast ANY of the spells in that book.  However, I am having some trouble thinking of non-cheesy ways to achieve that.

So far I have:
Mystic Ranger 8/Skypledged 1/Bard 1/Sublime Chord 2/Sacred Exorcist 1/Prestige Paladin 1/Sublime Chord 6 with Sword of the Arcane order.

This gives:
Cleric Spells to 3rd Level
Druid Spells to 3rd Level
Sorcerer/Wizard Spells to 9th Level (but spontaneous :()
All ranger/paladin/bard spells
No blackguard/assassin spells

Alternatively, a better way seems to be a Chameleon 10 build, but that leaves out the capstone abilities of all the tier 1 classes without really shady methods of giving Chameleon itself 9s.

Negative level on a chicken would make it a wight the next day.  Chicken the other wight meat. -borg286

Be an Archivist, get arcane spells from somebody with Alternative Source Spell or Southern Magician ;)

Yeah, Archivist = all domains, cleric spells, druid spells, ranger spells, paladin spells, blackguard spells, bard spells (via divine bard), and wizard spells (via hexer).  I don't think there's a single spell in the SPC that the Assassin can cast that some other class cannot with the exception of a few spells involving Death Attack.

I'd prefer a Wizard with Uncanny Forethought and 10 levels in Rainbow Servant. Add Prestige Bard, Paladin and Ranger if you want those. Skypledged for Druid.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.

Illuminan race for improved sigil krau for early entry of 2nd level spells
Wizard 1, using martial wizard variant instead of scribe scroll or the dragon variant that allows you to treat all spells as if you have spell mastery in exchange of scribe scroll and your familar
Archivist 2 which gives you back scribe scroll
Mystic Theurge 4
Holt Warden 3 which gives you trackless step for Arcane Hierophant
Arcane Hierophant 10

Cast as a 19th level Archivist and a 15th level Wizard
Take these feats as well
Ancestral Relic, make your relic your spellbook, sacrifice items, and you add the spell for free in your spellbook.
True Believer or Sacrifice a 5th level Divine Slot.  Now you can scribe all arcane spells for free.

Now to further amplify the cheese drop a mystic theurge level and take a level of hathran, use an acorn of far travel and now you can cast all your spells spontaneously.  Take the improved cohort feat and now your cohort can cast spells almost as well as you.

Heh , and ouch.

Here I was, just gonna say Erudite Spell To Power 7+ for most of it.
And PsyRef-ing like mad, on a helper to get Divs over to Arcane, to get over ...
Course this would be 1 spell level behind, the delicious cheeses above.

Mystic Ranger 8/Skypledged 1/Bard 1/Sublime Chord 2/Sacred Exorcist 1/Prestige Paladin 1/Sublime Chord 6 with Sword of the Arcane order.

Just a footnote: Skypledged doesn't help with this. It only grants spells "on the cleric or druid spell list in the Player's Handbook". SpC spells aren't on that list.

You know, you could just make an Hathran Archivist with Acorn of Far Travel, making every spell on your Spell List spontaneous, much cleaner...

Edit: Too bad, on PGtF it's just the spells you know...Still, something to ponder

I heard Hathran + Chameleon works for all spells.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Wizard X with Planar Touchstone (Catalogues of Enlightenment) can get pretty much anything you actually care about... (any spell in any domain anywhere). Add Uncanny Forethought, and you can even throw quite a few of them out spontaneously every day.

Hmr, now that I think about it,
Archivist 7/Sacred Exorcist 1/Prestige Paladin 4/Contemplative 1/XX 7 with sword of the arcane order gets most spells.  Depends on with Divine Bards are allowed.  Substitute domain + contemplative works for domain spells.  Holt Warden also works, but the organizational fluff is more strict.  This of course hinges of Prestige Paladin qualifying for SotAO, which is debatable.

Hexer is a 3.0 PrC that adds individual Sor/Wiz spells to the Divine list.  With retraining/rebuilding you can actually turn every single Sor/Wiz spell ever printed into a divine scroll and then scribe that into an Archivist's Prayerbook, and then lose the Hexer levels.  Sword of the Arcane Order is unnecessary.

This, of course, assumes you do it yourself.  If it's practical enough, then chances are some enterprising Archivist actually did it already, so all you need to do is go pick up the needed scrolls from him.

Playing with Eldritch Theurge + early qualification:

w/2 bloodline levels and Primary Contact feat to qualify for Eldritch Theurge 3 levels early
Generic Spellcaster(Arcane) 1/Generic Spellcaster(Divine) 1/ Eldritch Theruge 2/Chameleon 9/Eldritch Theurge 3-9
Cast any 9th level spell + some cool perks

We could also do something similar with Ur-Priest:
w/2 bloodline levels and Primary Contact feat to qualify for Eldritch Theurge 3 levels early
Generic Spellcaster(Arcane) 1/Generic Spellcaster(Divine) 1/ Eldritch Theruge 2/Ur-Priest 2/Hathran 8/Eldritch Theurge 3-8
- This would also give a 10th and 11th level spell slot ...

Best,
David
Some Cool Quotes:  [spoiler]
Quote from: unknown
Non-PC activities like out of combat healing should be left to wands and NPCs. It's not fun to play a walking wand of CLW. Likewise, being a combat wall is not a viable PC role. A Wall of Force could do that.

-Sort of, but you left out the important note that a Wall of Force does it better.

Quote from: Runestar / skydragonknight
The most powerful character is the one that you actually get to play.

Quote from: Operation Shoestring
I often have to remind people not to underrate divination.  The ability to effectively metagame without actually metagaming beats the ability to set things on fire more times than not.

Higher-order ability lets you cast the spells, too.

Yeah.  Three spells from a single domain, one each per day, and it takes at least a day to recharge it even if you get lucky (succeeding on a DC 25 intelligence check isn't trivial).
