Based on Episode 1- each of the Gameologists listed why they play role-playing games.  Why do you play?

I always liked action/adventure-style books and movies and comics and role playing allows me another medium to enjoy the genre.  Also, I like to write and develop stories and use my imagination, so - as a DM - games gives me an outlet for that.

i always liked let's pretend. D&D just seemed like an extension of that. I tend to prefer RPGs over other kinds of tabletop games for this reason. I love heroic games where I get to rescue the princess/save the town.

Because no other hobby comes close to satisfying all of my creative and social needs. It also speaks to my Inner Nerd, who's just like my Outer Nerd, except he'll be ten years old forever.  ;)

I play because I know of no other outlet that allows me to hit something repeatedly with sharp objects until they cease moving, that doesn't involve me explaining my actions to a nice police officer afterwards.   :D  Also, it allows an outlet that is at once creative and social, and engages my brain on more than one level.
Winning an argument on the internet is like winning in the Special Olympics.  You won, but you're still retarded.

Because no other hobby comes close to satisfying all of my creative ... needs.

+1:  drawing, writing, acting, plotting, tactical stuff.... I bought a book on mandalas for one of my games, simply so I could get some mechanics right.
gaming has inspired me to become a painter.  to learn 3d design, scripting... it is a major source of personal expansion and intellectual growth.

I'm only partially kidding.

Because I love it. When I'm running a game, and I'm really on, and I can feel the chemistry between myself and my players, it feels like what I was born to do. Sounds corny, but there's a strange sort of peace in it.

My older brother brainwashed me with the blue and white cover-art of the original Dungeons and Dragons book with a Wizard and a Fighter facing down a Dragon sitting on it's massive horde.

I feel a constant need to create ideas, and since I lack the attention span to write a novel, gaming provides just the outlet I need for my creative energy.
