Swashbuckling sources?
« on: January 28, 2011, 04:57:47 AM »
Does anyone have any good sources for pirate/swashbuckling style adventure, my guys are chomping at the bit to try a low to no magic semi-historical game. I have the 7th seas core book, and what little support Wizards put out for such a theme, anyone got anything else?

Do you need films/books as inspirational sources or actual crunch type stuff?

Well, i have plenty of inspirational movies and books to draw from. I think what i need is advice or crunch rules for running something low-magic, we've never attempted such a thing, and some of my players tend to munchkin a bit. I'm incorporating some of the pathfinder rules, namely the CMD/CMB system to encourage more daring combat flavor. I'm thinking of limiting magic to 3rd level, and magic item enhancements to +3. other than that, nothings concrete yet.

Stormwrack in general.
Complete Adventurer/Scoundrel are good for character options.
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

Storm wrack will come in handy, Although i believe very little of the adventure will be straight up pirate themed. And i'm sure my players will be dipping into scoundrel and adventure heavily. i think what i might do is leave magic items in, strategically scattered around the setting, but just not allow casters, leaves each item a piece to it's own unique history.
