Gestalt Enchanting question
« on: January 24, 2011, 08:37:42 AM »
Hey guys,

I am going to be starting a campaign soon. The rules thus far are: Human Only, 32pt buy, True Neutral Only, Any books that aren't campaign specific or 3.0, and Gestalt (as written in UA).

I don't play casters often, but am usually a skilled party face. I though it was about time for me to give casting a serious go, and thought the easiest way to settle in might be to try a caster using enchantment spells.

Now, I was just wondering, in the restrictions of the campaign setting... would it be better for me to focus on 'path' of my character as a beguiler, or as an 'enchanter' specialist wizard? Going both seems... a little crazy...

So what would your recommendations be? At this stage I hae my eyes on either a beguiler//rogue(or warlock), or an enchanter//something(most likely something with skills)

I would prefer not going 2 classes of max casting (those typically with 9th level spells), so please don't recommend something like cleric/sorceror/druid/archivist/etc...

I thank you for your time, and look forward to your responses...

If you want SERIOUS Enchantment, go for Enchanter, not Beguiler. It's better in many ways, since it has all the fancy spells, and not just the basic ones.

There's an Enchanter Handbook - http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19867266/Enchanter_Handbook

Read it, and make your PC.

My suggestion would be to put a Save-Debuffer on your other side. You can easily get to the point where the effective DC of your spells is so high it's impossible to save except on a 20.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.

Yes, I have read the Enchanter's handbook... it is one of my staples...

So you're suggesting a save-debuffer... the common ones I know of are hexblades and fear exploiting classes... any recommendations?

Binder, Paladin of Tyranny and a Bard with Doomspeak (CoR).

Binder is probably the best bet as in addition to save debuffs it gives you nice additional abilities, like item crafting. I would also recommend increasing your save DCs with snow casting + draconic aura that boosts cold spell saves if you can go silverbrow human.

If LA is only on one side, take half-fey (fiend folio).  Flight, immunity to enchantments, and a bunch of enchantments of your own.
