Battle for Wesnoth
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:42:53 AM »
A friend raves and raves and raves about this game, and so far I'm just finding it okay, and sometimes pointless.  Every so often there's a level in the scenarios I've tried where you don't learn any new tactics, you don't get to build a new type of unit. you basically get no reward at all for something like "get your lead unit past 50 invisible elves to the other side of the board without dying".  And if I accomplish this after (sometimes hours) of trying I get: jack shit.  I find the combat system to be fun, but in the noncom scenarios where my opponent gets infinite units and I have to perform some mundane task while avoiding them I'm just bored or frustrated.

Am I alone in this?

I remember that game. I mostly used to play it with friends online and mostly ignored the story modes. I like the combat system, but I can't say much about such missions.
It's all about vision and making reality conform to your vision. By dropping a fucking house on it.
