After getting down the hallway, to a quieter, unpopulated area, he nudges the squirrels in his clothing. He whispered without moving his face down to look at them. "I would like a quick word with you..."

"Do we has mission?"

"Less a mission, more I wanted to discuss your terms of employment. I can train you in the sword, but I have every intention of having you become, for lack of a better name, warrior spies. There is a lot to this town and world that I don't understand, and for that I'll need eyes that I can trust. Once we get to the new base, I'll need to have the both of you explore the place. I'd rather give you a mission when we had a specific place of operations.

You may face combat, danger, and who knows what other unspeakable things when under my service, but I will not forget those whom are my eyes. There will be honor. There will be killing. Your needs will be met, and you shall not go without. Are you prepared for such a role?"

Clubby seems a lil bored waiting for the hours of paperwork pass.  He pulls out a small bouncy red ball and begins playing with it.  A shiny, bouncy red ball that seems to beckon Cusic ever closer...

"Not all of the Mages were bad off, just the Dean's lot.  We'll be replacing them, the city needs the firepower too much not to.  Are you perhaps volunteering for a position?"
"Right, clerics are good for some things, but they're a little too... political when it comes to reliability. I would be happy to assist, I myself had nearly graduated from Warthog's School of Spellbooks and Sorcery when I was sucked here. Just how serious is the damage to the mage's guild?"

"Bad enough we'd take even a recent graduate.  No offense meant, but the Dean could warp space and time if it were necessary, and I doubt you're at that level yet.  The Clerics can be political, but there are so many religions available they nullify each other.  The Mage's Guild was a problem.  Most of them had ties to members of the City Council, the military, etc.  For a time their plotting against one another kept them busy, but now that fool Dean's ambitions and the Gawd wiping much of them out has left a power vacuum along with an enormous number of unemployed spies and assassins.  I will be very busy killing.  The Quartermaster at the Head Office will be handling applications to the Guild if you wish.  Be careful little cat.  It is a dangerous game you are inserting yourself into."

"But surely the gawd's intervention must have culled most of the troublemakers? And can't you guys take the opportunity to insert people that are more sympathetic to your side in to the guild? Surely there must be some wizards among the adventurer's guild looking to retire. Joining the mage's guild as instructors would be a good source of steady income as well as a... "steadier" pace in comparison. Don't you have any sane mage allies you could convince to join to keep things in order?" Bartholomeow looked interested, as he understood little of the city's dynamics and order. From what he had seen, things were quite crazy around this place. He also wondered how this man knew he was a cat, as he had taken almost every precaution to being discovered. Damn True Sight.
"Good, excellent. With that, I'm afraid I'll need you to stay hidden for a little longer. I'd rather you be my secret eyes... so keep your ears open, stay out of sight, and we should find that eager and interesting sorcerer...." Zach started walking, then paused mid-step. "Oh, and especially be on the lookout for magic dangers, or things someone without knowledge of magic might want to know. If something important is detected, tug on my inner cloths to let me know, and I'll try and bow out and find a place to speak with you. Anything at all, you would probably notice it before I would..." He then took off to find Bartholomeow and the deputy that escorted him away.
"Because all Wizards become troublemakers at some point.  The problem with wielding vast magical power is that eventually many believe they can become a Deity or take over the world.  Most of them consider each other competition, or have a plethora of enemies, or some other problem.  The interviews alone will be a bitch.  Honestly the best mages are less powerful ones, or ones we can blackmail into not using the populace as spell components because they don't consider some species to be people."
This Bieber kid is just another of many over-hyped kids created? by the music machine geniuses to give them someone to grace the covers of 16 magazine and to get little teen girls excited. Random Youtuber
The door to the room explodes open, and a tall ogrelike individual in Cleric's robes bursts in screaming "WHERE IS TEH ONE KNOWN AS JOSEPH?"

he is immediately knocked unconscious when Clubby whips a club into his temple.  He doesn't even drop the ball much to Cusic's dismay.
