Are you perhaps volunteering for a position?""Right, clerics are good for some things, but they're a little too... political when it comes to reliability. Just how serious is the damage to the mage's guild?"

"Bad enough we'd take even a recent graduate. No offense meant, but the Dean could warp space and time if it were necessary, and I doubt you're at that level yet. The Clerics can be political, but there are so many religions available they nullify each other. The Mage's Guild was a problem. Most of them had ties to members of the City Council, the military, etc. For a time their plotting against one another kept them busy, but now that fool Dean's ambitions and the Gawd wiping much of them out has left a power vacuum along with an enormous number of unemployed spies and assassins. I will be very busy killing. The Quartermaster at the Head Office will be handling applications to the Guild if you wish. Be careful little cat. It is a dangerous game you are inserting yourself into."
And can't you guys take the opportunity to insert people that are more sympathetic to your side in to the guild? Surely there must be some wizards among the adventurer's guild looking to retire. Joining the mage's guild as instructors would be a good source of steady income as well as a... "steadier" pace in comparison. Don't you have any sane mage allies you could convince to join to keep things in order?" Bartholomeow looked interested, as he understood little of the city's dynamics and order. From what he had seen, things were quite crazy around this place. He also wondered how this man knew he was a cat, as he had taken almost every precaution to being discovered. Damn True Sight.

Damn True Sight.
spot check plz"Because all Wizards become troublemakers at some point. The problem with wielding vast magical power is that eventually many believe they can become a Deity or take over the world. Most of them consider each other competition, or have a plethora of enemies, or some other problem. The interviews alone will be a bitch. Honestly the best mages are less powerful ones, or ones we can blackmail into not using the populace as spell components because they don't consider some species to be people."
When you use a tool the way it was designed for -- its intended function -- then it will work very well for you.But it's not the tool's fault if you use it for something else and you fail utterly, such as trying to eat cereal with a butterknife, pounding nails with a screwdriver, blogging to voice your political opinions, and brushing your teeth with a hammer.

You'll understand more when you meet the local mages. Bob show him to the Quartermaster."The QUartermaster appears to be a bored, somewhat grumpy Baboon. Grumpy might be a bit of an understatement.

Bartholomeow is not really interested in a Wand of Forced Bodily Intrusion unless they are standard issue for the mage's guild. "Well, when I was in the academy, my major was Necromancy with a minor in Conjuration."
