Actually, animated objects can be great forms. I mean, give your psicrystal a psychoactive skin to turn it into a horseless carriage so the whole party can travel in style.

I dare anyone to find a hole in that logic.

I like the Griffon (7HD).  It flies, it has claw/claw/bite, rake, and pouncei!  Booyah!
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

It's a bit niche, but anything involving crystals is good if you pull out a folugub. Good vs psionic characters, and potentially anything made out of glass or granite, depending on what your DM qualifies as 'crystal'. Basically it's a rust monster that eats crystalline stuff instead.

Also, Polymorph allows for ectoplasmic forms, while Metamorphosis doesn't, meaning warforged spell-to-power erudites can become astral constructs. Metamorphosis works on non-living creatures, but Polymorph can affect things other than the caster.

Don't forget to make a copy of those RotG articles somewhere before WotC deletes them.

Which articles are those, please?

I think they are these.

If you're going to call granite a crystal, then so is iron and over 95% of any decent piece of steel, but glass isn't (it's an amorphous solid).  It's probably best not to get into metallurgy or other branches of materials science, though, and just look at macrostructure.

I was never really impressed with the "Rules of the Game" articles, as often as they contradict the actual rules of the game.

Updates are what errata are for, and RotG contradict that about half the time too.  Just look at the Polymorph articles.

Just look at the date when the articles were published... Of course they are obsolete.
I for one do like the RotG articles; they sometimes clarify things that are not specifically mentioned in the core rules. BTW I have merged all RotG articles into one searchable PDF file here.
