[3.5][PEACH][WIP]the Dispeller's Dream: Homebrew Dispels
« on: December 18, 2010, 02:39:27 PM »
Okay, this is actually for a campaign of mine, but I thought why not get feedback on it anyways.
The idea is that builds which abuse persistent spell are becoming increasingly prevalent, characters with ridiculous amounts of buffs on them.
I want to curb them without actually making persistent spell unusable. The obvious solution (to me) is to make better dispels. Especially dispels which work best against creatures with lots of spell effects on them.

This thread is a work in progress, I intend to put in more dispels eventually.

Tenacious Dispel
[Spoiler][Abjuration]
Level: Sor/Wiz 4

As dispel magic, except as above, and as follows.

For all uses except counterspelling, you can choose in which order you attempt to dispel any effects.
You gain a +1 stacking bonus to dispel checks for each failed dispel check on subsequent dispel checks made as part of this spell.

Spell-level Scour
[Spoiler][Abjuration][Scalable]
Level:   Brd 3, Clr 3, Drd 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 2
Components:   V, S
Casting Time:   1 standard action
Range:   Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target: One creature or object
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

Scalable: Once learned, you may cast this spell using any of your spell slots. If you are a prepared caster you must prepare the spell as a spell of that level, if you are a spontaneous caster you must expend a spell slot of that level to cast it. The spell's effects vary based on the effective level of the spell.
(Level adjustments from metamagic do not increase the effective level of the spell for determining its effects, with the exception of heighten spell)
(This means that, for example, a cleric may prepare this spell in a level 2 slot even though it is a level 3 spell for him, it simply means he needs to be level 5 to begin using it)

You dispel all spells and effects in effect on the creature which are of the level of Spell-level Scour minus one. You do not need to make a caster level check, they are automatically dispelled.
Effects which do not have an effective spell-level (or equivalent; eg: power level) are unaffected.

(If you have Kingdoms of Kalamar, the concept of scalable spells was taken from there.)[/Spoiler]
Destabilize Spell-Matrix
[Spoiler][Abjuration]
Level: Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 ft.+10 ft./level)
Target: One creature or object
Duration: Instantaneous and 1 minute, see text
Saving Throw: Fortitude Partial
Spell Resistance: See Text

As you finish the incantation for the spell, the magic surrounding your opponent begins to destabilize. Your opponent writhes in pain as the multitude of spells he cast to protect himself begin to hurt him. He doesn't seem to appreciate the irony.

If you target a creature, you deal 1d4 damage to the target for every magical effect currently affecting the target. A successful fortitude save reduces this to 1 damage per effect. Spell resistance applies to the damage.

Dispel checks against effects currently affecting the target recieve a +6 circumstance bonus.

[Spoiler][Abjuration]
Level: Sor/Wiz 3, Cleric 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Duration: 10 Minutes/Caster Level
Spell Resistance: None

Whenever you dispel or counter an effect, you may choose to deal 2 damage to the caster of the spell. When dispelling or countering effects originating from magic items, instead deal 2 damage to any creature in possession of the object.

You gain a +2 stackable bonus to dispel checks
[/Spoiler]
Confident Dispeller
[Spoiler][Abjuration]
Level: Sor/Wiz 4, Cleric 4
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal

Just a heads-up to the original poster.

Around the Brilliant Gameologists forums, you don't need PEACH.  Just posting around here implies that you're ready to have whatever you post scrutinized, analyzed, possibly modified, or just be told that what you came up with is founded on a misconception and needs to be scrapped completely.  Nobody is going to be mod warned or tempbanned for honest critique of a build or a home brew creation, even if the OP didn't include an acronym asking for it.

Just relax, and try to learn something from any correction or criticism that comes up.
