Spellthief Trick: Double Self Buffs
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:08:16 AM »
Alright, here's the set-up:

You have Mr. Spellthief. He has the Obtain Familiar feat, so he has a familiar.

Cast a spell that stacks with itself on you. Share Spell with your familiar. Steal Spell Effect from your familiar.

You now have double buffing. I'm sure you can think of a way to abuse this.
Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Just a random thought, but ... hells I wouldn't have known about either Archangels daughter or Saeomons niece if I didn't happen to be on these threads.
Sounds fine to me.
probably over on "Off-topic".
might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post.

This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu".
My final project for my film independent study course. It could do with a watching and critiquing

Operative wording. And there are a couple. I mean, for example, use Cloud of Knives. Or a stolen Hunter's Eye. I think the consensus on those is that they do stack, iirc.

And even if they did, this would be arbitrarily better stealing the SLA from a factotum and using it on yourself.

Huh, remember seeing somewhere that they do.

And my only answer to the last is: what if the party has no factotum?

There are a couple of spells that do explicitly stack with themselves (two from CC come to mind that absorb ability damage).  This should work just fine on them.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

Why would you even do this? It hurts my eyes and looks like you ate your keyboard before suffering an attack of explosive diarrhea.

If using Genesis to hide your phylactry, set it at -300 degrees farenheit.  See how do-gooders fare with a liquid atmosphere.

3: Focused casters. Bard, Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Martial Adapts, Warmage.

Well, PaO sort of stacks with itself, so once you reach sufficient level, you could get a permanent change into anything with only one spell.

Assuming, that is, that PaO is allowed and Spellthieves can cast it.

Unless PaO is below level 5 (6 if bloodlines are allowed), it can't be duped.

I've actually figured out an actually useful way to use this: if someone dispels one of your buffs, you can steal the other half of the buff off of your familiar.

Oh, and another question: if a Spellthief has a way of recovering spells, and they steal a spell, can they cast the spell and then recover it?

So, does anyone have any non-Master Spellthief tricks?
Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."
