That's why I stopped using mythweavers (and all those other character-hosting sites), and just started posting my character on here. After all... if this board is down, I'm not going to be needing it...

If only I could make a good looking spreadsheet character sheet then I would just host all of mine on google docs. I already use the spreadsheets for designing my characters and tracking what money is spent.

So, what's everyone's plan for fire? Firewood is damned heavy.

I got a spade to dig into the snow and use that to keep the heat in and wind out. Beyond that I didn't see a fire as viable since the wood is likely rare and too heave to carry more than a couple of days worth for anyone. Even if we had a cart and animal to pull it we would quickly run out if delayed.

I've got 2 days worth of oil and a lantern, worst case scenario we can dig in, make sure we've our cold weather gear and/or furs on, and at least keep the interior hovering around freezing point.

Hey AJ and gang.  I'm considering joining this one too if there is no objections.  I'm reading through the threads to learn the ins and outs of the game right now.

Heck, I might even try one of those casters that are so rare here.  But, some cools woodsy awesome sounds fun too.  That being the case perhaps even Druid for both.

Well there seems to be a distinct lack of woods to be woodsy in.  ;)

A divine caster seems pretty cool but keep in mind that druids have been nerfed pretty hard; must take shapechange in place of wild shape, can't cast in armor, animal companion as a ranger normally gets one. But they are a druid and could still be pretty cool and helpful to the group.

Outdoorsy then :P

Where did I miss the shapechange ruling?

Also, AJ.  Would the Deadly Hunter variant be possible?  (UA, p 58): Gain bonus to AC when unarmored and fast movement (as monk). Gain favored enemy, track, and swift tracker as a ranger. Lose armor and shield proficiency and wild shape.

Summon focused + Beckon The Frozen could make for an interesting druid.

Still, again, to all of you:
Which Domains should I look at?
Which Spells should I pick?

I'm hesitant to try for the Persisted route, partially since "touch" spells are most of my buffs/heals and those are unknown if they are persistable.
It also needs Planning domain, which honestly have really bad spells.

AndyJames, is "Touch" a fixed range?
Also, is it allowed to choose two domains or do I need to submit to any certain pantheon?
If so, a description of said pantheon and their domains would be nice.

Chain+Reach combo would work, if not for the fact that I need DMM twice to be able to use it at all right now. And that's kind of impossible.
With high Charisma, it feels like such a waste to not use all those Turn attempts.
Easiest way would be DMM:Quicken, but I don't know if that is the best route...
It would keep stuff simple though and I wouldn't have to wait all that long for my feat choices to start working together (unlike, say, Reach+Chain).
Also would keep my feat choices easy once we level (Extra Turning. Extra Turning. Extra Turning.).

The cardinal rule of PbP are to play something you like either:
1 Now. OR
2 in a level.
and something you'll keep liking
3 next level and the two beyond that.
And a Cleric I can play for a long time, since we're aiming for "epicly long" here.

Actually, with 18/16/12/10/10/10 you've spent like...

Let's see.

16-2= 14.
10-2= 8
4-2 = 2

24 points.

Huh, I thought it would be less. Must've been that 18 that tricked me.
Yeah, you're right on the money.

Also, I just turned 22.
PG 18 material is no worries, if that's what you're thinking about AJ.

yeah that's me: bonus points to whoever can get the literary reference in the first name

Wheel of Time?

DFA's Endure Exposure will be godly given the nature of the game, you ought to double-check with AndyJames if it's alright to have it.
Also, where's the Entangling Exhalation?

Metabreaths have a history of being at odds with the DFA's breath weapon, since it is available every turn and have no "cooldown".

How do you gain 2 bonus feats for being a human?

Of course, if you've checked this with him already just ignore this.

Okay, and if permissible I am now also considering a career path that would lead into Chameleon for eventual breadth of utility magics.

Considering Cloistered Cleric or Druid as mentioned above.  Also if permitted I may use Paragon Human to help cover some of Chameleons skill requirements.

Edit:--------------------------------------------------

Shadowhunter I'm not sure which domains.  All those would be nice enough.  Probably the most important thing on the Domains (aside from Granted powers) is how with the Spontaneous Divine casting they end up being your earliest high level spells... ie, the first 2nd level spells you will have access to are your Domain spells.

You may want to consider going Cloistered Cleric as well if it is allowed unless you have other plans.

Some Domains I am considering if I go cleric route are: Spell, Trickery, and of course Knowledge from Cloistered.

Of course, depending on what Andy is allowing Druid or even something totally different is a possibility.

Too many choices hehe.

Archangel, you always get your first outfit for free. Just take the winter outfit.

Wood isn't rare. Most of them are, unfortunately, conifers, which is good for burning quickly, but not good for burning overnight, unless you have someone feeding it constantly.

Druids can Wildshape. I had a rule where you keep your stats whatever shape you are in a la Alter Self (I think it was in the Ephemera campaign), but I haven't added it to this game. If you guys think that it is fair, I could do that.

Hallack, no paragons (as far as everyone know, the paragons got smited something chronic at the end of the Age of War). UA alternative classes are OK. I don't think I have said no to that one. However, cloistered clerics would imply a monastery or temple of sorts that you spent your time studying stuff. In a world where survival is a day to day affair, I don't see that happening. That would violate the "no organisations" clause :(

No problems with the Endure Exposure invocation.

One of the guys described in the semi-intro is a druid, so yes, druids are allowed.

Hmm... MThor is underaged... That may cause some difficulties... Actually, it would cause some difficulties in the long run. I am opening up the discussion as to whether you guys are comfortable with that. Post-apocalyptic worlds tend to be... brutal. This one will be no different.

Shadowhunter, Touch is not a fixed range, unfortunately. That was established by WotC some time ago. Oh, and you get an extra bonus feat for being human, so you get 2 bonus feats total for being human. Level 1 humans get a minimum of 3 feats.

Metabreath feats will only work with breaths with a cooldown period expressed in rounds. Not even one with a cooldown period expressed in minutes will meet this prerequisite. This is explicitly stated in the Dragonomicon. However, Entangling Breath is NOT a metabreath feat. It is a breath channeling feat, which is something different altogether. It works as long as you meet two prerequisites: 1. You are dragonblooded. 2. You have a breath weapon. So, Entangling Breath will work with DFA's breath weapon.

Shadowhunter, have you considered (all from the Spell Compendium):

Time Domain
Improved Initiative as a bonus feat
True Strike
Gentle Repose
Haste
Freedom of Movement
Permanency
Contingency
Legend Lore
Foresight
Time Stop
Competition Domain
+1 on opposed checks
Remove Fear
Zeal
Prayer
Divine Power
Righteous Might
Zealot Pact
Regenerate
Moment of Prescience
Greater Visage of the Diety
Glory Domain (if you want to use Turn Undead to actually Turn undead)
+2 turning check, +1d6 turn damage
Disrupt Undead
Bless Weapon
Searing Light
Holy Smite
Holy Sword
Bolt of Glory
Sunbeam
Crown of Glory
Gate <- replace with Miracle

After double checking the House Rules and Character Creation stuff i saw we were getting Water Orc stats for Orcs.  so i am going with these stats and one of the feats needed for primeval as long as thats a go.

Also would a Dire Ape form be able to use weapons when in Primeval Form?
Orc Barbarian
Str -  20
Dex - 14
Con - 18
Int - 12
Wis  -8
Cha -8

Also can i substitue Improved Toughness for toughness as a prereq?

Yes, Dire Apes can use weapons. One of the best creatures you can have for an animal companion is an Ape/Dire Ape. It wears armour, wield weapons and is basically a Fighter without the feats (but a TON of stats and natural armour).

Yes, Improved Toughness can be sub'd for Toughness.

Well I wasn't going VoP since I figured we had someone talking about Artificier so I figured we should find or make some ok equipment that VoP would screw up. And I've spent my gold, stupid cold weather outfits are expensive. So my sheet should be done I'll be figuring out a back story when I can, I've got some ideas for it floating around i just need to organize them.
No one's gone artificer that I know of.

Don't forget to buy those cold weather clothes! It'd be sad not to have the right gear. Cold Weather Outfit (as mentioned, free outfit, if starting with it), crampons, snowshoes, etc. Heck, even skates, if you feel like it.

---

At first glance, Cloistered Clerics are the least affected form of divine caster. (3 domains means a lot more spells known, and they only had light armor proficiency.) Since Wildshape isn't necessarily as good anymore, there's always the Swift and Deadly Hunter variant from Unearthed Arcana. Wildshape + armor proficiencies -> Wis to AC, fast movement, track, favored enemy. Are these okay though? These variants are trading what's now useless (or nerfed) for non-useless (or even improved) features.

As long as you're considering the Spontaneous Cloistered Cleric or Druid, you should take a look at the Shugenja, Favored Soul, and Spirit Shaman. They might actually be better. (Spirit Shaman looks especially close since it has the same spell progression as Druid and can change their very limited spells known (usually 1, at most 3) each day. This daily choice might go against the spirit of the campaign though.)

---

I'm planning on playing a Dragonfire Inspiration Bard with Healing Hymn, so anyone with Cure spells might be a little happier in choosing them as a known spell. Now, I know that with the Complete Champion errata, that Healing Hymn is bad (since the bonus healing is capped. 1d8+5 for CLW, 2d8+10 for CMW, etc.). But at least at (very low) levels, it's better than nothing. I'm also somewhat glad that spontaneous casters eventually get to swap out their spells for different ones, so that the outdated cure spells aren't complete drags. And there is always that overnight boost to natural healing.

And it also makes CLW, Mass (max 1d8+25 each) or the Insignia of Healing (Races of Destiny, Clr 3. max 1d8+10 each) spells more interesting, though I'd hesitate to choose either as a spontaneous divine caster.

Also, yay for people playing the improved melee classes. Plenty of people to boost.
