BBEG build advice/help
« on: November 29, 2010, 11:50:02 PM »
So I am building the main villan for my campaign. I actually already have a straight caster version which is highly optimized. But after this last game on sunday I decided to go with a Gish. I would like to make it a ECL 21 or 22. And all of my players have highly optimized characters.. so Im really not afraid of going overboard.

So what I am asking for is some build advice, or maybe some nasty tricks to pull out. The goals are 9th level spells, bab 16.. the usual gish goodness.

The builds I am thinking of at the moment are:

1) rage mage. possibly using spelldancer for persisting? i wanted to base it off a frenzied berserker so that the BBEG couldnt die from dmg. idk what the level prog might look like.. or if it is even possible to get 9th level spells while getting frenzied berserker/rage mage going. but the idea i have in my head is going for the dex berserker via frantic rage or w/e. having him pwning my players while not being able to die from dmg. and using two familiars to ready actions for dispelling, while having abunch of persisted goodness.

2) (and i really need advice on this one)
A ghost build. Iv never really built a ghost.. but I have seen afew very well done builds with it. IDK where to even start with a ghost/gish.. So this one is open for build advice and tactics

Ok my friends I look forward to your replys. thanks for your time  :D

Delay Death [Cleric 4] and Beastland Ferocity [Bard 1, Druid 1] will give you the "can't die from damage" shtick.  By ECL 20ish it should easily be enough.

My typical Rage Mage build consists of Barbarian 4/Sorcerer 1/Rage Mage 10/Abjurant Champion 5.  When you use War Cry you'd get BAB/CL 20, although you'd only get 5th/6th level spells depending on what level of cheese you pull.  It's really just not that good of class.

That said, you really don't have to choose between one or the other.  Have a ghost gish use it's possession ability on Golems and beat down the party while spell immune.

Are you interested in making it an otherworldly ghost?  That removes the horrible weakness of being susceptible to turning.

Not sure how you want to handle the ghost's rejuvenation as a BBEG.  Probably have some sort of ritual method to destroy the soul by destroying body, or have the PCs try to render his reason for unlife either fulfilled or completely unobtainable.

The CR of the whole template is +2, so that doesn't give much leeway in terms of losing caster levels, unless you pull fast progression shenanigans.  You could probably pull something off with the sagacious ghost from LM (gains bardic knowledge), divine oracle, ur-priest and Fochlucan lyrist.

Master of the Unseen hand is the typical method of ghost abuse, and you could make a decent but not spectacular gish with (full bab 6)/MotUH5/Ur-priest 9.  I prefer arcane casting if I go all out on MotUH (since metamagicing the hell out of telekinesis is hilarious, and no divine list has TK).

Linguist:
Hmm.. I do like the idea of using the ghosts possession, and the tk abuse is always good... but i really need to figure out a build that hits 9th level arcane casting. Iv got 22 levels to use.. what could I slip in to a MotUH build that would still hit arcane 9th level?

i agree the rage mage isnt spectacular by any means.. so that being said what would be a good gish build that can hit the points im looking for? iv seen some pretty nice swiftblade gish's etc, but idk how i would use the "Delay Death [Cleric 4] and Beastland Ferocity [Bard 1, Druid 1] will give you the "can't die from damage" shtick." and still hit my 9th level arcane, ...while keeping a high bab. i thought of maybe using the mystic theurge but im hitting a creative wall here.

anyways thanks for the replys. hopefully more will follow  :D

If you want a Dex based Barbarian, may I suggest Illumian? One of their sigil combinations makes Dex their casting stat.
[spoiler]Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Just a random thought, but ... hells I wouldn't have known about either Archangels daughter or Saeomons niece if I didn't happen to be on these threads.
Sounds fine to me.
probably over on "Off-topic".
might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post.

This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu".

My final project for my film independent study course. It could do with a watching and critiquing

Magic items, permanent spells, contingent spells, or even plain being an Archivist.

Delay Death is also a 3rd level spell in the Destiny domain, so you can gain access to it via the Planar Touchstone feat applied to the Catalogs of Enlightenment, and you could probably then scribe it into your spellbook as a wizard. If Beastland Ferocity is in a domain, you could gain it in the same way. Then dip Incantatrix 3 for applying Persistent (and then Extend) MM for free via a high Spellcraft check.

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
