*waves* Hi new people!

People usually think that I've lost my mind. I haven't lost it, I know exactly where it is: the gutter.

My body is a temple. That is why I make chocolate sacrifices in it every day.

Finally the bitter crew of WotC rebellionists are the minority. Judging from the votes, that is.

Hello there, I'm Jon.  I joined the boards after listening to several episodes of Brilliant Gameologists, and spent much of my time being a creepy lurker, just reading the various threads. Then I saw some really interesting stuff in the GM Gameology area, so I decided to start posting.

I found the Podcast through rpgpodcast.com, and first listened to episode 13 on the seven words you don't say while gaming.  I found it to be really good advice interspersed with a sense of humor I can relate to. All in all, it's an hour I look forward to while walking to work!

Personally, I'm a male in my early 30's.  I work as Computer Trainer in my home town of Winnipeg, up in Canada.  I've been gaming most of my life, I was first introduced to Basic D&D by a friends' Dad, where I hit a hobgoblin on the head with a mace.  From there I was hooked. I played all through school and college, and we cycled through all the standard games, from D&D to Palladium to Word of Darkness, Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, I think the only thing I didn't really try was GURPS.

Four years ago, I found the Forge website, discovered Indie games, and have been playing the hell out of them.  Luke Crane's games have been really exciting, so much so that I recorded the first Phase of my Burning Empires Game.

Recording game play was a lot of fun, even the editing process was a good time! So, I've been thinking of trying my hand at a gaming podcast. I'm still working on that piece, so we'll see.

Outside of gaming I enjoy going out into the world and snapping pictures with my camera, an old Nikon from the mid 80's. I hand develop the film in a darkroom at the local university.  There's something about darkrooms and the smell of developer, seeing the photos appear on the light sensitive paper that I really enjoy.  Digital cameras are fine, but they take all the fun out of the developing process.  It's funny how strange and anachronistic my hobby is these days, kind of like blacksmithing or horseback riding.

I enjoy reading, I just finished "Soon I will be Invincible" by Austin Grossman, and plan on getting my hands on the next Dresden Files book by Jim Butcher.  I'm looking at Butcher's other series "Codex Aleria" and considering picking up the first book of the series.

Glendower is the name of a character played by a friend of mine, a Welsh Vampire.  He actually managed a Welsh accent and it was very entertaining.  I really liked the name, so much so that I adopted it as a forum handle for most of the forums I tend to frequent.

I'm looking forward to posting a few thoughts in the GM Gameology, and hopefully contribute to the conversations that are going on.

Heya Gameologists.

This is Sean from Narrative Control and I've been listening to BG for a while, pimping you (by including your promos in NC and recomending you guys to friends) as well as some chat over Twitter (@duckout).

I haven't joined your forums yet because I never keep up with forums and I hate creating extra accounts.  However, I got a post on my forum that made me think I really need to come here and say thanks.

Just started listening (you can thank bg_meg!) and really enjoy it.

Thanks bg_meg, I appreciate it... and now I'm off to pilfer through the rest of your forums and probably disagree some with bg_josh.

Long story short, Wizards decided to "revamp" the forums a while before 4e's launch and the "Community" guy they brought in was an incompetent dick. He managed to confuse to confuse the hell out of everyone with his new layouts, deleted posts he didn't personally agree with, and ignored the opinions of others. And then he fired WizO_Autumn (aka Meg) for no reason - that was the last straw, basically.

That's the most comprehensively concise description of the event to date.

Welcome Glendower!  Extra points for the Welsh mention!

Antarx!  You are rounding out our European members!  *excellent*

Tarotdragoon- I can't wait to hear more of your opinions on things.  I think your viewpoint will be different than others so I can't wait to see how that pans out.

Lakira- A girl after my own heart.  I finally finished my own graduate studies and was right with you through Rifts, D&D 3.5, and onto Story Games.

Khorus- Geek?  Here?? Never!

Rhig- Thanks for following DM's advice and heading over!

HGP_BigHeadZach !  Thanks for coming!  Don't give up the dream for hot lesbians.  They are out there!  We'll have to perfect the bait but soon enough, the catch-and-release program will go into effect.

Arteyu:  Hi.  Give any young geeky boys rides lately?

ranlam: I hope you find the advice you need!  Don't be afraid to start your own threads asking for some though.  Some of the gaming D&D advice may be for "veteran" players and your needs may be different.  Let me know if you need anything!

Welcome all!

Arteyu:  Hi.  Give any young geeky boys rides lately?

Psst. Meg. Atreyu was the boy in the land of Fantasia. Artax was the horse, and Falkor was the luckdragon. Without context, your question has an altogether different sort of meaning. ;)

Cheers,

Sad history, but also explains why I was unable to find some of my post on the WotC boards.

In that case, add me to the list of Wotc Rebels.

Took me a while after registering, but I've finally gotten around to my intro post.

My name's Eric, I'm a thirty-something in St. Louis, analytical chemist by trade.  A traditional gamer for most of my life, I've recently been swayed by the hippie-commie-pinko indie game community and am now drowning in really well written games I want to play and have no group for.  So I get to use the Podgecast's V3 as my outlet.  I also had the chance to meet Meg in person at the last event in St. Louis and briefly express my appreciation for her work.  I was classy as hell, I didn't even stare at her chest.  Much.

I originally found BG through rpgpodcasts.com, initially thinking the hosts were sort of assholes.  After listening to a few more sodes though, I decided the hosts are sort of entertaining assholes, and that's really all I ask from a podcast.  Also, I like being able to cheerfully ignore the warning at the start of every sode and listen to it at work, albeit on earbuds.  Keep up the good work, gameologists.

Let me introduce myself to ... myself.
« Reply #314 on: April 22, 2009, 03:02:37 PM »
Hail everyone.  I'm Necroblivion, and I've recently been directed to some of the more entertaining and useful threads held here, so I figured I'd make a post and say hello.

I'm an avid roleplaying fan, been playing now for 20 years and still kicking.  I've played a great variety of old school rpg's and some of the newer ones.  Our group loves D&D and we still play religiously, but none of us can stand 4e.  Great game for what it is, but it isn't D&D.  We wrote a brand new campaign world for the coming of 4e, and then rewrote the mechanics to Pathfinder.  'Nuff said.

I'm also a terribly huge fan of the Rifts setting by Palladium games.  Don't get me wrong, their rules are crap, but the setting is really cool.  I am a part in the Rifts D20 Project, and find it to be a great alternative.

Last big enjoyment is http://www.gladiatus.com.  If you like gladiators and free online games, this is a fun one.  I am Necroblivion, server one, US.

Moving, but great intro Necroblivion!  And I totally agree with you on Rifts.  The setting is rich and lush and a lot of fun.  The rules are unfortunately crap.

I agree about Rifts. What is this Rifts d20 thing? And is it sanctioned by Palladium? I understand them to be kind of pushy about their copyrights, and I thought they'd decided not to convert to d20.

Terribly unsanctioned... lol.

But you are allowed to use their material online for personal use.  That site just happens to be for our group's use and OGL.  I once spoke to Kevin Siembieda about doing a Rifts d20 and he lectured me thoroughly about what crap d20 was.  That was the year before they went bankrupt.     :lmao
