Quasit has reach of 2.5ft, so has to enter the square of its target. Square formation is best.

That's funny, despite having the entry up, I thought they were small not tiny that entire time. My bad.

The rest of the post stands. If they have 1 well optimized PC. If their wizard is not a total newb and gets lucky on a save or die. If the DM screws it up and brings it into grapple range. If they have a strong archer.

You guys are still missing Pathfinder though. One of the points is more power to underpowered classes, more versatility, and removal of weak options. Pathfinder clerics get a healing burst to all allies in range, instead of turn undead. (1d6 at that level, but still). Domain powers are better, and many include new special abilities (Lightning arcs, ranged bull rushes, movement bonuses, bonuses to attack/damage as a swift action, daze attacks, etcetera, etcetera) .  At 2nd level, pathfinder rogue gets a "rogue talent", on top of evasion, with various benefits, including bonus feats. Fighters get bonuses against fear effects at 2nd level. The wizard gets to spontaneously cast any spell in his book once per day ontop of his other spells. Specialist wizards can still prepare spells from opposing schools. The feats are better; sometimes merging multiple feats. Your pathfinder character has more hit points due to favoured class bonuses and larger hit die. Your pathfinder character has better stats: either +2/+2, or +2 and bonus feat (human).

Oh, and I just realized: You get readied actions and AoO's if the Quasit ever gets into melee range of a character (Readied actions to hit Quasit when it attacks wizard, attacks of Opportunity when it leaves threatened square). That alone could be enough to put it under in a single round. So really, the Quasit has to be smart enough to never get into melee range, and instead just harass with spells and daggers. Then it becomes a weird attrition battle, but I'd put money on the wizard taking it down with a colour spray, or something else.

Your pathfinder character is more powerful than your non-pathfinder character.
It's like:
Optimized Pathfinder Character--->Optimized character--->Non-Optimized Pathfinder character--->Non-optimized character

My post shows that with elite array (which lets be honest, doesn't get used) and a party of non-optimized characters, ignoring special abilities (And forgetting to apply the +2/+2 bonus that pathfinder gives to stats), have a decent chance of survival. If 1/4 characters were optimized, or I wasn't using elite array, or I did a better job of looking up special abilities and had better knowledge of options with pathfinder and their feats...an average pathfinder party probably has a 60%+ chance of surviving. An optimized pathfinder party probably has a 0% chance of failing.
Your post showed that Pathfinder is not compatible with 3.5

Which was all you had to say.

This is actually taken from a Pathfinder module...

Pathfinder is ~90% compatable with 3.5E, but you are correct, it is not perfect. However, given that we are discussing an encounter from a Pathfinder module, does it not seem appropriate to refer to character abilities from pathfinder?

Depends. 90% compatible means 90% of the time, people won't be using Pathfinder.

I'm confused. Given that we are discussing an encounter from a Pathfinder module, does it not seem appropriate to refer to character abilities from pathfinder? Or are we assuming that the people buying a Pathfinder module don't use the pathfinder system?

Also, can I get the name of the Pathfinder module that contains this encounter please?
