: Wacky Idea
: SeekingKnight July 09, 2010, 03:01:00 PM
Ok gang I was thinking over ideas of other PCs I could build if my dread necro gets shut down if I shut down some encounters by using intimidate and I came up with something fun.

Now I would love to hear ideas on how to make an Expert optimized.  I was thinking I pick a solid 10 skills like bluff, diplomacy, use magic device and others.  Then take things like skill focus (x) and see how far I could get along.  All help is welcome.

Peace.

Don't forget Intimidate. With the right feats, you can make a fear build. That plus Use Magic Device, and maybe Diplomacy, should let you build a fairly optimized character. :D

Autohypnosis! Iajutsu focus!

See if you can get that breakdancing build past your DM.

LOL you mean go for the jumplomancer except use perform (breakdance0 and see what happens?  Heheh I never thought of autohypnosis nor iajutsu focus.  You all are so much fun, thanks!!

Nah, there's some feat that lets you substitute perform(dance) for concentration, and another one that lets you intimidate people with concentration, and some sort of duel of wills thing which uses intimidate.  So there's this intense staredown, and then you start breakdancing.

Wasn't there some build that used that plus irresistible dance to force all of their enemies to dance too?

OMG  :lmao I soo have to do this now and using an expert will blow their minds as it is not a class one would think of doing something like that.  Tonight will be hit the books to find said feats.

the one i'm thinking of is Lord of the Dance by nexius but can't find a working link to it.

And then you shout "YOU GOT SERVED!", right?

Might wanna read this, and familiarize yourself with it!

Why not be a Factotum (Dungeonscape) instead?

Both feats that do that only do so for Spellcasting purposes.  You need the Bard spell Undersong to get it for all purposes of Concentration.

Thought about it but the people i game with are old school gamers.  They are use to fighter fighters, rogue steals, wizards blasts, and cleric heals.  I used a crusader and the things I could do went over their heads, heck the Dm wanted to nerf my healing to like a few times per day.  So yeah, I am playing a Dread Necromancer for now and seeing how it goes.  Playing an expert is more of a "well since I tried everything and I just want to fit in so I will play a npc class and not worry about it much." kind of deal.

So play a Druid 1-20. Plenty of options and they cant really complain if you take a base class from core from 1 - 20. Or Wizard or Sorc or Cleric. Show em how unbalanced core is by playing by thier rules.

And break WBL instantly with scrolls or wands.

Yea, play a PHB ONLY Cleric.  Seriously.  "I can make characters awesome using only one book, which isn't even all of 'core'; it ignores the Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, and the SRD", and then do it! Show them how to play a completely core cleric and rock.  Or say, "Can I make a character using all the resources given to a player to use in these three books, MM, DMG, and PHB?" and then do so, and go make a DRUID?

Making a Core cleric is as easy as saying Thaumaturge.

He said PHB only. No Thaumaturge. That's in the DMG.

And no magic items either, apparently.

Ouch. Druid might be able to handle that, the cleric...less so.

With or without proper pronunciation? :P

Well, he only said make a character without the DMG. Going by the letter of the word, getting new magic items after the campaign starts is fair game.

But it's so fun to imagine the ways the cleric will spend 20 levels of WBL on mundane items.

I think there's a whole debate to be had about whether buying magic items after the game's begun counts as using books outside the PHB. After all, if you level up halfway in the game and take a non-PHB feat, that would probably count as using a non-PHB source. So, yeah. Anyway this is a really silly thing to be having a debate about.

Buy 760k worth of Alchemist's Fire or flasks of acid and dump it on people. For when you just need to kill something quickly.

Look at the cave-in rules.

Then throw money at your problem until it goes away.

Gang. gang hold up.  First lemme clear something up.  I am only using the expert NPC class because it is simple to understand and has no gimmicks the DM may feel overwhelmed by.  Remember these guys are all old school, nothing wrong with that, but they are use to things having order to them.  Like I asked if I made a build with a bunch of classes and just about all of them said they would not allow it because they felt that once you pick a class it is a class for life unless you get a prestige class that fits out around level 10.  They take their fluff very seriously.

If I wanted I could break the game by being a cleric, wizard, or druid.  I picked a dread necromancer because it is Tier three and let me do a nice range of stuff for combat as other things I tried, the crusader and the fighter type with high strength due to templates.  In reality the group has all the classic bases covered, we have two "tanks", a blaster sorcerer, a healer cleric, and a sneaky rogue.  I kinda am now really like a fifth wheel as this group just barely gets through encounters.  Such as this past session I couldn't make it due to work the following day so they played on.  Well it seems the players not there got stuck in a pit trap, no biggie it was so we did not get lost I think, and they started to fight a bunch of orcs.  The cleared a few waves but in the end some "elite" orcs with AC 19 and 30 hp each kicked the team's butt as they had magical help.  So for this group if orcs with 30 hp and an AC of 19 is tough then I dunno, but I am bitchin again for no reason.

Sorry for the wall of text.  Main point being I am making a wacky character such as an optimized expert just to do what ever.  I am open to anything from any book to to this build.  No limit on just core though if I do just core I will change my dread necro wizard to a necro specialist wizard. If I do that well I pretty much can tame any encounter with minimal thought.  Thanks all.
