Seriously, look at the bottom of the page. They all seem to have the same birthday.
-
Yeah, I noticed, mildly amusing to have them all pick this one day.
Though the date is 4/19, which is also the code for a certain scam.
Think there might be a joke or summat?
-
Arise my brethren! Our time has come! :lmao
-
A lot of them are from UK, which makes sense. Monty Python is Brittish, so it's only fitting for "Spam, Spam, Spam, Eggs and Spam" to be from there.
-
Ha! It's my sister's birthday today, too. I didn't know she was a spambot!
-
I have also noticed the recent additions.
We'll be keeping a close eye on them, but in the meantime please keep an eye out for spam in the near future.
-
More today, with a few coming up. Including Ubernoob apparently. :p

I can almost believe that, but not Omen of Peace.
-
I think some of them set their birthday as the day they join.
We got 149 new members yesterday (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?action=stats)
If this keeps up the Happy Birthday thread will never be posted in any more, since no one will be able to find the names of real members in the list.
-
We need to set up that distorted text thing to stop bots joining.

Or just ask a simple question anyone should know or be able to find with thirty seconds of googling.
Like, "traditionally, what race is Pun-Pun"?

I guarantee there are legitimate members here who don't know the answer to that question. Not particularly prominent ones, but they're there.
I once encountered a D&D group in the next county over.
Me: "So then, what books do you use?"
DM: "Oh, anything goes really."
Me: "So could I play a kobold div-"
All: "NO!"
And some people might take this as proof that everyone here actually uses Pun-Pun in games. (no offense, Phaedrus (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?board=115.0) :p)

Pre or post ascension? The original or the newest version?

And 117 the day before that...

Dude, Pun-Pun is in every game, whether the DMs like it or not. He's just that Uber. :D

What is this, like the D&D equivalent of "African or European swallow?"

I said "traditionally", didn't I?
Or something simpler, like "What's the name of that really hard to spell wizard cantrip. You can look it up on d20srd.org"
-

Amanuensis? :smirk ("hard to spell" is very relative... I don't think any of the core ones are hard at all... )
-
Heck, even "what kind of spells does a Wizard cast." would weed out the non-geeks.

prestidigitation.

Magic ones. :P
And guys, I thought we wanted the non-geeks so we could show them the error of their ways. ;)

As long as they're humanoid and not giants (trolls) or constructs (bots), then that's fine with me.

What about elementals (fire)?

Maybe if you put the question in Zalgo?
-
Just as an update, we're trying to ban all the spambots, but we're getting about 100 a day :wall and it's a little hard to keep up with, so we appreciate your patience on this issue.
And if you're a real member and your birthday got buried by a ton of fake members...sorry :scared and Happy Birthday. :birthday
-
Go for the ones with e-mails at yahoo uk, with 0 posts. That will take care of 80% of them.
-
EDIT: guess the board language can't fit that.
Just using this:

You get this:

Just for full disclosure...since banning a spambot still leaves their "birthday" on the forums which means the spam links in their signatures are still there for anyone to see/click on if they were to click on the spambot's account info, we're going to erase their signatures as they are banned.

Got a few.

test2

I still need to go through the last week or so of new members and do a selective purge, but at least for the time being the birthday list is clean and should be showing only valid member birthdays once again.
-
And now the spambots turn one year old. :birthday :lol
-
Yeah, I saw that and was trying to figure it out, for a second. The thing was, several of them are legitimate posters, so I somehow factored this out as a possibility at first. :p
-
Seriously, look at the bottom of the page. They all seem to have the same birthday.
Not mine! :P

Well yeah, you're advanced.
You've had time to evolve. :P

Clearly, Phaedrus is an optimized spambot. Only a Min-Maxer would alter a character's age for a benefit.

They be getting stealthier:

Look, it's a countdown:
Total time logged in: 100 days, 10 hours and 1 minutes.

Two more. Thank god these aren't nearly as bad as the ones over at MTGS.
