A matinence I need to do because of our hosting service might cause some errors.  Let me know any new errors that pop up from now forward.

One of the lines separating threads on the board sections can't be seen.
Like the 5th line on Conventions.
Along with similar dividers between post and sig areas being missing.

I just clicked on a thread of mine.
It took a really and I mean ... r e a l l y ... long time to load.
PhaedrusXY had posted, but his avatar came up "Advanced Spambot" !!
Not good.
And while I'm trying to type this my Firefox based browser it acting sketchy.

It only does it on threads that have Iffy avatars.
Threads that don't have corrupted avatars, load just fine.

Hope you can figure this out.

Multiple computers on a ganged system, are doing this now. Bad.

heh , minor oops.

Sorry about the slight over-reaction.
There is still a problem.
Having read the various PhaeXy responses, it's now clear to me "advance spambot" is a joke on his part.
Nevertheless ...
Firefox is continues to be tricky, all of the sudden.

Hey, I'll ditch my avatar
if that's the problem.

Dude, you totally need to change your class to Illithid Savant or something, so you can acquire some tech skills. I stole your avatar, btw :P Steal it back ;)

My avatar is displayed in a distorted fashion now, for some reason.  I'm quite sure it used to display at its native size instead of being stretched to maximum size...  -- Pteryx
: Re: Report any problems
: RobbyPants September 25, 2009, 09:27:23 AM
It's been that way for a couple of months now.  The images are stretched to 100x100 Px.  I ended up making a larger version of my avatar and using that one so it wasn't distorted.  Although, since you have an animated GIF, it might not be so easy for you...
: Re: Report any problems
: Suzerain September 25, 2009, 06:32:02 PM
If you upload it from your computer to this site, it doesn't stretch. However, that may have its own problems.

There were like 100+ guest accounts logged on last night, and (nearly?) all of them were "viewing" the Cleric Handbook thread. So either CoDzilla just became wildly more popular, or something funny was going on.

An Error Has Occurred!
You are not allowed to search for posts in this forum.

I also don't seem to be able to post this as a new topic, so here it is.

Is the search disabled for some reason?

and why not allowed to post new topics??? In a help forum no less? Unless this is still victim of the the Great Hacking?

You can't start new threads until you have at least one post - the BGs really need to put it somewhere more visible.

Most forums with a Search function have very finicky search engines. WotC's forums are notorious (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TVTropesWikiDrinkingGame) for the lousy search engine, despite being corporately-owned. Then again, Gleemax is infamous for being error-prone...

I have made several posts in the past including at least 2 today but i can not see a new topic link and my post count says 0
EDIT: when i made this post my post count when up to one and the new topic link appeared
: Re: Report any problems
: veekie May 20, 2010, 05:32:35 AM
Certain areas of the forum do not contribute to post count.
: Re: Report any problems
: RobbyPants May 20, 2010, 09:39:47 AM
I think anything marked as the Playground and PbP areas won't count your posts.

Having made the post here, it triggered your post count.  Yeah, some of the minutia here is confusing.

I cant seem to find a way to start a new post/thread.., whatever the name is. I can just reply to others..
how and where do i do that?

thanks.
: Re: Report any problems
: RobbyPants June 08, 2010, 11:42:00 AM
You should be able to now.  You have to have at least one post to be able to start a new thread.  Also, note that the Playground forum doesn't add to your post count.  I think it's to limit spambots, but I'm not sure if that's why they have this limitation.

There really should be a message somewhere on the boards or even the sign-up page so that people know this without finding the right thread topic.  This seems to be asked at least once a week.

I guess newbies these days are rather enthusiastic about starting new threads, I never even realised there was such a rule for most of a year.

The rule wasn't always there - it was put in place to stop a new wave of spambots.
: Re: Report any problems

Well, in that case is it possible to add a notice to post something in the introductions thread in the registration standard email or something?
: Re: Report any problems
: bhu July 03, 2010, 02:48:29 PM
Got this from one of my players:

Funny story, I found myself playing around with the settings for my BG-account roughly 12 hours ago and at the moment I can't access the site while logged in due  to "Template Parse Error!". Since the fourth of July is coming up up I more or less expect the game to go slow for now, if nothing change for a while you can just NPC Bill untill the problem is over (the error-message says it should only be temporary). If the problem prolongs itself I guess I'll have to come up with another solution.

You seem to have an odd glitch in your forums, I am a new member and I was not able to search the forums, I kept getting a message that said an error had occurred as I was not authorized to perform a search.. however I posted a request for help and then tried searching again and found that I was able to search... I then went back to delete my help request since it seemed that the problem was corrected, however then I was no longer able to search again... I am guessing you need to have at least one post on the forums somewhere in order to be able to search.. so, I guess this is my post... but might be something to look into....

Cheers

You need to make one reply before you can use the search feature or make new topics.  The only problem is, no one can easily find where it says this, so people constantly ask why they can't do these things.

Found this when I tried to load the main page earlier, a refresh fixed it, but I think there might be some redirecting going on again. Whatever it is was routed through the Healthcare in Finland page on wikipedia for whatever arcane reason.

Anyone else noticing the board being really slow? I keep misloading pages without the background graphics and taking 10-20 minutes to load a single page (if it loads at all).

Every other site seems fine.

EDIT: Looks like I can search now. Guess that answers my question.

You need TWO posts, one in the intro and one in ze rules.
: Re: Report any problems
: bhu September 08, 2010, 02:11:48 AM
I was chatting with Vorpal Tribble in a thread over at GitP when he said he never got to try these boards because they said he was a bot:

Bhu:
You never got to post or something else? If there's something wrong I should tell the owners.

Tribble:
I couldn't register. Every time I tried it'd say something like 'VT at email is a bot at <ip adress>. Notifying admins'

Any idea what happened?
: Re: Report any problems

Okay I just tried logging in and it kept telling me I had the wrong password (which is impossible because I accidentally set Firefox to remember it).  After I tried the 3rd or 4th time it let me in.  Anything going on?

The SQL errors I've seen indicate that the database server might be overloaded and just not returning the results(which for most login methods will default to a no-login)

Got an "unable to connect" error for a few minutes this morning. It was saying it couldn't connect to the database. After a few minutes I was able to get to the main page again and it has been working fine.

edit: Just got it again. here is the exact message
Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

tag to the end of any list I make in a Spoiler (visible in my Graft Handbook). Anyone got an idea why?
: Re: Report any problems
: Garryl June 14, 2011, 04:15:48 AM
I've noticed that List tags don't play nice if you have any text between the end of one Li tag and the beginning of the next. Also, your graft handbook has an erroneous List tag at the beginning of the Individual Graft Review post that's causing the extra /List tag at the end. The simplest way to deal with List tags is actually to remove all of them and let the boards add them back in automatically at the beginning and end of sets of Li tags. As a plus, the List tags it puts in don't count against your post's character limit, which can be helpful if you're running up close to the limit.
