: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 04, 2008, 02:53:13 AM
The afternoon sun beats down on you; the air is hot and still.  The sparsely settled lands of the Elsir Vale are starting to grow monotonous, with a seemingly endless line of dusty flyspecks of towns.  The town of Drellin's Ferry lies a few miles ahead of you.  Its a settlement hard on the borders of the Witchwood; and the best place from which to begin exploring the nearby forest, with its rumors of ancient treasures.

Assign yourselves speaking colors.  Assume that you've been adventuring for a whlie, but do it in such a way as to introduce yourselves to each other (and me).
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Dan2 September 04, 2008, 03:02:22 PM
Talanar adjusts his leather armor so as to allow some of the trapped heat to escape.

I still can't figure out how the rest of you managed to drag me along on this ridiculous adventure.  Back in the forests, it wasn't nearly so hot, and when it was, there was shade.

He pauses to take a small swig of his waterskin.

Call me a pansy if you want, but we eladrin tend to stick to the feywild for a reason.  Count yourselves lucky that I'm more stoic than most of my kind.

He flashes a quick grin to reveal his sarcasm.

I should make a cooling spell!
Now, which of you wants to be a guinea pig for a spell that I'm going to invent to keep you cool?

: ImperiousLeader September 04, 2008, 04:20:44 PM
Near the front of the party, Gael glanced back at the grumbling wizard and decided to ignore him. The heat and monotony of the long walk was bothering Gael as well, so he calmed himself by composing an Elven poem:

If the walk is long
And the sun is high and hot
Why not take a ride?
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Snizor September 04, 2008, 04:55:12 PM
Kesk listened to both his companions delirious ramblings as he twirled his trusty dagger in his hand. He was probably the most affected by the heat among them, what with all his fur, yet no one heard Kesk complaining.

: SixthDeclension September 04, 2008, 05:14:20 PM
Duncan twirls his beard in between his short stubby fingers. His steps are much smaller than some of the others, and works to keep up. Eager go keep his own spirits up, he begins skipping.

We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of...Elsir Vale! Just kidding! I cant wait to find this treasure!

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Risada September 04, 2008, 05:31:28 PM
Tisiphone lets a small smile escape her face, as if she was having fun with her companions' reactions.

"Instead of complaining, you guys should try to enjoy this trip....this isn't as bad as you all make it sound.... maybe if you are inspired.... Gael, can you continue?"

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Dan2 September 04, 2008, 05:42:27 PM
Tal' looks expectantly at the party.

So, is that a 'no'?  Come on, it'll be easy!

He looks over at Kesk.

You look like you could really use it, Kesk.  Heck, while I'm at it, I can make you a disguise so the next town doesn't try to make you the unofficial arms-bearer.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Snizor September 04, 2008, 06:14:49 PM
Kesk refuses to dignify the wizards ramblings with a reply.

How about some bugbear poetry instead to pass the time?

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: ImperiousLeader September 04, 2008, 07:02:03 PM
Goblin Poetry? What, like that one about the Dwarf from Mount Tucket?
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Snizor September 05, 2008, 05:00:10 AM
Kesk glares at Gael after his insult.

No. I was thinking of an epic by the renowned bugbear poet Kahless titled, Eviscerated Enlightenment.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Blade2718 September 05, 2008, 08:14:38 AM
The sun reflects quite nicely off the burnished coppery-red scales of Ragnos hide.  He'd traveled with this band of humanoids for a while, but the poetry duel seemed to be a nadir.

We don't ride because Kesk scared the stablehands AND the horses from that last settlement.  Besides, I don't think anybody expected it to be quite so warm.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 06, 2008, 05:05:32 AM
The road leads through a lightly wooded area - you must be getting closer to the Witchwood, and the town of Drellin's Ferry.  As you march down the path, you notice an eerie silence - when suddenly an arrow whizzes by and lands by your feet!

You see in the forest a cadre of hobgoblins - they drop their bows and ready their swords.  Off in the distance you can see a smoldering beast.

Map is updated. (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pjLgJCA71Dz0q5kp5cgQoDQ)  It has a key to show you where you are relative to everything.  And if I'm not mistaken, it is Talanar's turn.

Both cover and concealment - a total of -4 to the attack rolls

The rays are blocked by the trees and undergrowth and the hobgoblins that were attacked breathe a sigh of relief.

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

Cutting quickly into the fray, Ragnos unleashes his draconic fury on his foes!  The acidic vapor he expells caught three of the hobgoblins, and hopefully, melting them into a gooey paste.  He turns his attention to the another of the hobbos, and declares him to be his enemy.

OK, move to [H,h].  Using a minor action for Enlarged Dragon Breath (13, 4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1724591/) against Victims 1, 2, 3.  (EDIT:  Deduct -2 for cover for a grand total of 11.)

If I Divine Challenge #4, am I required to close with it THIS turn, or by the end of my next turn.?  If the former, I leave it be.  If the latter, I Challenge it.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 09, 2008, 01:04:33 AM
The roll against Hobgob 1 missed - you have to roll your attack against each target although you keep the damage.

You have to end your turn adjacent to the enemy you want to challenge, so no go on that.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Blade2718 September 09, 2008, 01:21:25 AM
To hit Victim 2 (21), Victim 3 (25) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1724765/).  Victim 2 and 3 have the cover penalty deducted.  Damage is still 4.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 09, 2008, 01:31:04 AM
The 2 of the hobgoblins scream in agony as the acid melts away their flesh.  They fall to the ground, writhing in agony.  The 3rd, manages to hide behind the tree to find enough cover from the blast.

Two pairs of hobgoblins rush out and split up - one goes for the bow wielder and one goes for the burly dragonborn!

Swords strikes rain down on the ranger but he is able to weave his way out of danger.

The dragonborn's armor deflect both attacks against him - unfortunately, his armor offers no protection against the arrows that are trained right at him.

Ragnos takes 8 damage

Tisiphone moves forward, looking for a good position to support the reckless dragonborn...

Still with a bounce in his small step, Duncan leaps over toward the hobgoblin closest to him that is next to Gael. With a manuever that, combined with swings from his glaive, seems to bring his allies closer to the enemies, Duncan attacks.

Either Talanor or Gail can shift 1 square.

Did I do this right? This is my first attack roll as a 4e character....
Its fine.  But, since the free shift from Wolf Pack Tactics is "Special", it happens before the attack happens.  And you determine which ally gets to shift, but feel free to consult with your party mates.

The gnome's glaive pieces the hobgoblin's torso and he falls down as blood leaks out of him.

From within the forest, a wolf seemingly made entirely of flame bounds out at great speed and makes a beeline for the dragonborn.  Ragnos is able to make a quick step and avoid the snapping jaws.

Kesk moves closer to the flaming wolf. Realizing that he can't quite get into a flanking position against the burning beast, Kesk turns and hurls his trusty dagger at the Hobgoblin near Gael.

Kesk moves to Ge, then makes a ranged basic attack against Hobgoblin #4
Attack: 1d20+13=23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1726027/) vs AC, damage 1d6+6=7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1726028/)
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 10, 2008, 06:02:21 AM
Kesk's aim is true and the dagger is becomes lodged in the raider's throat.  He makes disgusting gurgling noises for a few moments before he finally passes.

The sounds of combat ring loudly in the ears of these hobgoblins and Ragnos is able to see two more hobgoblins emerge from around the bend - one wielding a spear and the other with two wicked looking blades.  With them is another of the fire beasts, leashed to a heavy chain that the spear wielder holds in his right hand.

For the Khulkor Zuul!  For the Red Hand!  With that the beast is released and the two hobgoblins leap into the fray.

Talanar is up.  Arcana checks, History checks, also.

Same as in 3.5 - declare you want to delay and tell me where in the initiative order you want back in.  If you don't use your delayed action, you've wasted your turn for the round.

Talanar's hands spread open and he makes a smooth, wiping motion - suddenly, the the flaming beast and his keeper fall over as the ground beneath them ices up.

The arrows plunge into the beast and small flames spurt from its body.  Its snarls in pain.

Divine Challenge Victim @ and Valiant Strike it.  Valiant Strike (Str v. AC) (13, 13) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1727082/).  Wow, good thing there's no critical failure.

The spear wielding hobgoblin laughs at the dragonborn You and your god are weak before the might of the Red Hand! He rises to his feet and blows a horn.  The horn's tone is clear, yet ominous.

The searing heat of the flaming wolf is a real nuisance to the heavily armored paladin.  The two raiders pinning Ragnos down slowly circle around him and swing their swords, but Ragnos is able to shake them off.  The archers still hidden in the forest can still land clean hits on him, however.

Ragnos takes 5.

"Then, you shall perish for what you believe!, one who openly offends the gods!"
After Tisiphone replies to the spear wielding Hobgoblin, she moves to get a better view to the flaming beast, then gathers holy energy and attack. "Gael, finish off that beast!"

Move to Ff and uses Lance of Faith (Wisdom vs Reflex)

1d20+9=14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1727577/), 1d8+7=8 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1727578/)

If it hits, Gael/ImperiousLeader gains a +2 power bonus against the flaming beast until your next attack against it.

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

Holy light surrounds the fiery wolf, but it doesn't seem to faze him.  Ha!  You and your god are weak too - you pathetic wretches will know the awesome power of our Queen very soon...muahahah!  The flame beast rears his head and exhales a huge gout of flames, but its heat subsides quickly.

The burly hobgoblin with twin blades dashes forward and unleashes a flurry of wild attacks against Ragnos.  Talanar watches in a moment of awe at the speed at which the hobgoblin maneuvers, when suddenly he feels the cold steel of a sword slicing his flesh open!

Man, I had like...7 attack rolls right there and only 1 hits.  I must suck at this game.  Talanar takes 13 - don't bother with Shield, won't help you ;)

Ah, but will Shield work with Disruptive Strike?

Gael's keen eyes pierce the torrent of violence as the Hobgoblin's blades flash. Timing his moment, he looses an arrow.

Disruptive Strike (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1728128/)
Attack: 14, 15 damage
Bah, Elven Reroll (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1728131/)

Kesk remains silent as he moves to flank the burning wolf creature. With expert skill, he then delivers a brutal stab.

Kesk moves to Jf, then uses Torturous Strike against wolf 1 (flanking with Ragnos for CA).
Attack: 1d20+16=32 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1728130/) vs. AC

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 12, 2008, 04:32:01 AM
Nice!  Still doesn't stop it  :P

Kesk's blade finds its home in a very fleshy part of the beast.  Its unearthly howl is painful to listen to.  Its bloodied now.

With great agility, the other flaming beast bounds across the battlefield and lunges for the bugbear that caused its pack mate pain.  Its jaws snap and clamp on Kesk's forearm.  The searing heat of beast cauterizes the wound, preventing blood from flowing - but not the pain.

Kesk takes 4+4 fire.  Duncan is up.

The gnome's glaive misses its mark, and the hobgoblin sneers at the diminutive warrior.  Ah, snack time!

Far in the distance, you hear the stomping of boots - as more raiders race down the road directly toward the party!

Talanar is up

Two arrows fly toward the beast - one lands solidly in its side, the other sails above its head.

The spear wielding hobgoblin lowers his spear and makes a bee-line for Ragnos - and his aim is true!  Ragnos is barely able to dodge a life-ending charge and instead, the spear's tip rips through his arm.

Ragnos takes 14.  Blade2718 should be able to respond today or tomorrow, so we'll wait for him.

With a roar of pain, Ragnos attacks the injured wolf with another mighty attack, this one designed to bolster his flagging vigor

I use Bolstering Strike against @.  Cha v. AC (17, 14) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1731072/).  +2 Flanking is 19.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

Ragnos is distracted by the menacing hobgoblins surrounding him and he swings into thin air.

The newly arrived hobgoblins break their tightly packed formation, spreading out while advancing.  The hobgoblins surrounding Ragnos swing their swords, but he brushes them aside with deft parries.

The archers in the forest seem distracted by the arrival of their comrades.

"Words of power, treat my ally's wounds!"

Uses Healing Word on Ragnos/Blade2718

2d6=7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1732470/) plus Healing Surge points

After that she turns her attention to the fire wolf, and attacks him again.

Aw, crap.... Elven Accuracy: 1d20+11=24; 1d8+7=12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1732489/)

If it hits, Kesk/Snizor gains +2 power bonus against the Fire Wolf.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 16, 2008, 03:06:34 AM
The wolf howls in pain again as he once again breathes a gout of flames into the mass of flesh in front of him.  The flames race up and ignite bits of clothes on Duncan, Gael and Talanar, but having bodies in the way protects Tisiphone from the worst of it.

The twin blades of the hobgoblin flash in a whirl of steel as he unleashes an incredible barrage of attacks against the paladin.  Ragnos raises his shield and he is able to hide behind it to deflect most of the attacks, but still some make it past his guard.

Duncan, Gael and Talanar take 10 fire and Ragnos takes 21.  Kesk is up.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Snizor September 16, 2008, 04:22:09 AM
Kesk stabs at the wounded wolf, hoping to finally fell the beast.

Minor: Predatory Eye (+1d6 dmg)
Standard: Piercing Strike against the wolf(Attack:1d20+18=21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1732860/), assuming that Tisiphone hit, vs. Ref)
Damage: 1d6+1d6+2d8+10=22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1732863/)

The bugbear lunges for the hound and his blade slices open its throat No more fire-breathing, OK?.  The flames that surround the beast die down.

Sensing that its twin is no more for this world, the other hound makes a desperate rush for the nearest enemy, and latches onto Gael with his teeth!

Wincing in pain, Gael rapidly retreats from hound.

Okay, first, a slight retcon. As a reaction to the hound's attack, Gael uses Yield Ground, to shift to Ef. Technically, that was last round.

Ignoring the dog, Gael sets his sights on the dual-wielding orc, and draws two arrows, firing them at the two hobgoblins flanking Ragnos. Then Gael moves into the forest to gain cover.

Move to El.

The arrows strike true and pierce the armor of the hobgoblins.  The one wielding a spear barks some orders and the group of hobgoblins circle around Ragnos, making their way toward Talanar!   The spear wielder strikes Ragnos and nicks his exposed sword arm with his spear tip.  Emboldened, strikes at the wizard and snags some of his robes, but misses his torso.

Ragnos takes 8.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

Seeing one of the bloodthirsty hobgoblins engage his squishier compatriot fills Ragnos with anger.  Yanking the holy symbol from around his neck, he uses the magic of his armor to heal his mounting wounds.  You will face the judgement of Kord this day! he shouts at far raider, daring him to face a worthy opponent.

You were right about needing to change tactics.  I use Challenge on Z and hit him with a Sign of Vulnerability 1d20 12=28 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1734111/).  I have to roll separate damage because this is the roll I used for the attack that I changed: 3d8 4=25 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1734603/)

Alright, looks like I'm playing monkey in the middle...  Gotta fix that.

How about you two get away from me!

He attacks with a peal of thunder and a burst of force.

Seeing the twin-blade weilding hobgoblin assault Ragnos, Kesk nimbly tumbles past Duncan before launching an attack designed to throw his enemy off-balance.

Kesk shifts to Hf using Tumble utility, then uses Imperiling Strike on the TWF Hobgoblin (uses Fighter Multiclass feat for +1 to-hit).
Attack:1d20+17=28 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1738205/) vs. Fort
Damage: 1d6+6+2d8+4=21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1738206/) and the target has -4 penalty to AC and Ref defense until the end of my next turn.

If the Attack hits:

Attacks: 1d20+17=34, 1d20+17=33, 1d20+17=30, 1d20+17=37 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1738209/) vs. AC

The hobgoblin gasps as one of Kesk's blades pieces deep into his side.

The fiery beast shakes off the effect of the Cleric's prayer and makes a quick u-turn and breathes on the Wizard, but he hides behind a tree and avoids the worst of it.

Duncan should have gone before the hound, but since it missed, I'm not going to worry about it right now, and then top of the round with Gael.

It would be more awesome if it were 100% legal:
1) I believe you already used Student of the Sword.  Doesn't really matter because you rolled like a pro.
2) You don't get two attacks with each hand with Rain of Blows.  Attacks always default to attack with one weapon - if it was different, it would say so, like the Ranger's at-will Twin Strike.

OOC:
1. I did not use it earlier. My pre-CA, pre-Student of the Sword attack bonus is +13. With CA, my attack bonus goes up by 3 instead of 2 due to my nimble blade feat (for a total of +16, which is what I had previously). I believe you mistook the bonus from nimble blade earlier for me using Student of the Sword.

2.
: Rain of Blows
Encounter (Standard)- Martial, Weapon, Melee
Primary Target: One creature
Attack: Strength vs. AC, two attacks
Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage.
Weapon: If you’re wielding a light blade, a spear, or a flail and have Dexterity 15 or higher, make a secondary attack.
Secondary Target: The same or a different target
Secondary Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage.
Rain of Blows gives two primary attacks with the same weapon. Each time one of them hits, the weapon part of the power (which gives a secondary attack) triggers, resulting in up to four attacks from Rain of Blows with a single weapon. My numbering of the attacks was to indicate that if one of the primary attacks missed which secondary attack wouldn't happen.

Sorry about any confusion.

Ignoring the fury of combat, Gael carefully sights his next arrow, and looses it at the dual-wielding hobgoblin. He then moves off, picking his way around the battle, seeking a better shot.

Hawk's Talon (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1740064/) on "Z"
Attack Role: 28 (This ignores cover and concealment, but not superior cover or total concealment.)
Damage: 19
Move to Ip, taking a route to avoid "16".

siznor - Yes, I missed the Special line - however, its not clear to me whether the 2ndary attack resolves per hit or after the 2 primary attacks.  It seems reasonable so I will agree.  He still ain't dead. :)

Still waiting for Duncan.  You hit, ImperiousLeader, but I want to see what Duncan does.

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: SixthDeclension September 22, 2008, 08:14:51 PM
Duncan Yells to Kesk to make an attack and he swings his dagger at the TWF Hobgoblin. Duncan stays where he is.

I use Commanders strike. 1d20+13=29 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1740627/) 1d6+9=13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1740629/) Kesks basic hit plus my int modifier to damage.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 24, 2008, 04:20:29 AM
Kesk just can't get enough - his blade strikes the hobgoblin again.  Doubled over in pain, he stumbles.  The spear wielding hobgoblin raises his spear and roars - and before Kesk's and Ragnos' eyes, his worst his wounds begin to knit together!  He moves in to flank Ragnos and hisses See the power of OUR Queen!
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Blade2718 September 24, 2008, 08:28:18 AM
Using the magic of his shield, Ragnos defends his smallest ally.  Calling on divine sources of strength, he bursts into a mighty attack!

Standard to activate my shield's power to grant myself and Duncan Resist 10 to all for the encounter.  Minor to use Divine Strength.  AP for a standard (+1 atk, +3 dmg) to use Bolstering Strike (Cha v AC)(28, 12) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1742676/) against Z.  If that's a hit, +1 temp hp.  Yay me.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno September 25, 2008, 02:19:58 AM
Ragnos' blade slices into the hogboblin's upper arm and as quickly as his wounds were knit together by the healing power of his comrade, he begins bleeding again.

Talanar is up, also, the remaining hell hound is not bloodied - I mistakenly marked him bloodied when I meant to get the TWF hobgoblin

Two of the hobgoblins drop their weapons and attempt to put out the flames that are rapidly spreading across their body.

The hobgoblins circle around and strike against different targets - one lands a blow against Kesk, two land blows against Tisiphone and two land blows against Ragnos!

The hobgoblin in the forest rushes over to Talanar and stabs him with his blade.

6 damage to Kesk, 12 to Tisiphone, 12 to Ragnos, 6 to Talanar.  Tisiphone is up.

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

Blood soaking into his fur, Kesk retaliates at the vicious hobgoblin.

Kesk uses Riposte Strike
Attack: 1d20+16=19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1754644/) (hobgoblin still has -4 to AC from last turn's Imperiling Strike though)

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

Duncan has no use for a move action, so if Risada wishes, he can take a move as a free action thanks to my Knights Move. He will let him decide where he wants to go. Duncan then proceeds to use Lions Roar. Using it lets Kesh expend a healing surge. The attack from it is directed at hobby 9. Assuming I hit, I use Thunder (From my weapon) for extra damage and a 1 square pushback.

1d20+10=27 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1758392/) Str Vs AC 2d4+5=11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1758395/) 1d8=6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1758402/)
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

The hobgoblin's spear finds his way into Duncan's armor!  Duncan's vision becomes white for a moment as he reels from the pain - the hobgoblin uses that moment to slide closer to Kesk.

Duncan's glaive slams into the slight raider and he goes flying with incredible force like a leaf, floating on the wind.

Gotta watch those descriptors - Knight's Move is a Ranged attack.  Duncan takes 13

An arrow grazes the spear arm of the hobgoblin.  He raises his spear in the air and lets out a blood-curdling scream as he brings the spear down in an overhead slam into Tisiphone.  The spear plunges through a gap in armor her armor and pierces flesh.  The other hobgoblins take their lead from him and slide over to the wounded cleric.

Tisiphone takes 11.  Did I get the gender right?  Also, is 36 Kesk's HP before or after the healing surge?  Yeah, I suck, sorry about that.

"Kord has judged you and found you to be lacking!", Ragnos declares, swinging his sword at the hobgoblin fanatic.

I attack Spear Guy with Paladin's Judgement (Str v. AC) (1d20 11=30,  3d8 5=25) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1764798/), and allow Talanar to use a healing surge.  Divine Challenge him too.

Shift to Fg, uses Searing light (Wis vs Ref, 1d20 + 9 = 11, 2d6+7 = 13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1765020/)

An arrow grazes the hobgoblin, but that doesn't stop him from stepping into the fray and stabbing the elf with his spear.  The tip penetrates through armor and deep into flesh.  The sight of blood seems to reinvigorate the hobgoblin, as the cleric collapses into a limp pile.

Tisiphone takes 18, which should leave her at -1.  Remember that you're not dead-dead until you hit negative Bloodied HP.

Ragnos and Talanar are up.

Will): 7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1774179/).  The roll was a Str attack when I thought I was going to just bull rush him.  The roll is a natural 7 +3 level +4 Cha +3 proficiency +2 enhancement +2 combat advantage= 21.  Damage is 2d8 6=22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1774189/), and all bloodied allies within 5 squares gain 6 hp.  Specifically, Tisiphone.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood

The gloating hobgoblin's flesh is seared by the power of Tisiphone's might.

Reposition Gael as per his last action (J,j).
He'll tell you it's my fault because I had pestered him into updating sooner than he wanted, but I think he really is trying to put at least one of us in the ground so there can be new characters brought in to test play balance.
Killing Clerics/Leaders is just standard practice. :)  Oh wait, did I say that...?

Kesk's blade slices through the hobgoblin's midsection, spewing blood and entrails everywhere.

Duncan is up

Lets get him!

Duncan swings his glaive with a grim look on his face at the Spear Hobbo!

Villains Nightmare 1d20+10=28 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1782179/) Str vs Reflex 6d4+5=22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1782192/) And Stupid hobbo cant move away from me unless I let him.
And he doesnt have to worry about new people after this, I think. I might be dropping out...
Duncan's glaive strikes the hobgoblin behind the knee and he stumbles in pain.

The hell hound bounds over and releases his flaming payload on in the midst of the melee!  The flames cling to Duncan's armor, burning him from within.

Duncan takes 14.  Gael is up.

Holding his ground, Gael looses another volley of arrows.

Twin Strike (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1796305/) on "U"
First attack: 24, 4 damage
Second: 17, 10 damage
Quarry Damage: 3
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno November 04, 2008, 05:20:03 AM
An arrow zips through the air, with an audible whistle.  It flew straight toward the spear-wielding hobgoblin's head, but he shifts his weight to prepare for an attack and the arrow zips past his ear.

He lunges for Tisiphone and the spear tip pierces through her torso.  The jagged tip opens a bloody, gaping wound in her belly.  For his efforts, his arms cramp with incredible pain, a reminder that Kord is displeased with him.

Tisiphone takes 14, Divine Challenge processes, and Ragnos is up.

No way, PCs don't die for good until they pass their negative bloodied #.  You've got a whole 20 "HP" left to go! :)
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: Blade2718 November 04, 2008, 10:09:38 PM
Uttering a prayer to the Brawler, Ragnos intercepts the hobgoblin's attack on the cleric!

Then, the dragonborn sidesteps to his left and swings his sword in a defensive swipe, divinely aiding the fallen elfwoman.

Update for this thread page please.  Immediate interrupt to use Martyr's Blessing, taking the attack from Tisiphone to myself.  That puts my hp at 24, below my bloodied level.  Divine Challenge stays on Spear Hob.  I shift to [G,h] and attack with Shielding Smite (Cha v. AC) 1d20+15=16, 2d8+8=12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1798511/).  ROFL natural 1!!!!

Two of the hobgoblins catch fire and fall to the ground, trying to put themselves out.  One of the hobgoblins drives his sword into the prone form of Tisiphone, but in his haste or bloodlust, he only lands a glancing blow.

Tisiphone takes 8

: Snizor November 07, 2008, 01:08:23 PM
Ignoring the hobgoblin to his right, Kesk rushes to surround the hobgoblin leader before launching a desperate strike.

Kesk moves to Eg (provoking an OA from hobgoblin 13  :() and uses Piercing Strike
Attack: 1d20+16=33 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1801528/) vs. Ref
Damage:1d6+6+2d8+4=24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1801529/)

: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno November 11, 2008, 02:32:37 AM
The mass of fur and muscle streaks past one of the hobgoblins, but he manages to swipe his sword at Kesk and he finds flesh.

Kesk rolls through and minimizes the damage, to find himself in front of the surprised spear wielding hobgoblin.  A single, strong stab lands in the hobgoblin's leg, almost bringing him down, but he manages to stabilize himself with his spear.

Kesk takes 6, Duncan is up.

I'll hold Spearie!!!Duncan yells. He tries to urge his team to press onward, helping to heal Tisiphone and allowing Kesk to make a normal attack on the hobby 14.

Inspiring Word Class Feature(Tisiphone expends healing surge and heals an extra 2d6 health) and Commander's Strike. 1d20+13=32 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1807306/) 1d6+9=13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1807307/)

The hell hound slides over and slashes at Tisiphone and swipes at her as she regains consciousness.  Its firery jaws clamp down on her foot.

Kesk got him. Also, the last hellhound shouldn't have cover and concealment anymore.

Talanar jumps back into the action and calls upon arcane powers to release a shockwave amidst his foes.
Attack and Damage vs Fort Hell Hound comes first (1d20+9=17, 1d6+6=12, 1d20+9=28, 1d6+6=12) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1824763/)
(Tisiphone's bonus to '&' makes it 19 vs Fort)
Luckily for me, I rolled the same on damage.  (Kinda forgot it's only one damage roll.)

If the Hell Hound is hit, he'll be moved to Gj.
: Re: PART 01 - The Witchwood
: PhoenixInferno November 28, 2008, 03:08:01 AM
The ray of holy power blazes from the cleric's outstretched hand and sears into the hell hound, illuminating it JUST enough for Talanar to blast it with thunder.  Blood oozes from the hell hound's ears as the intense sound liquifies its brain.

The sight of the hell hound collapsing destroys the remaining hobgoblins morale and they make a break into the bushes.

OAs on the hobgoblins

The hobgoblins drop their weapons and run in terror from the party, having never expected to encounter this kind of resistance.  Kesk's blade skewers the hobgoblin next to him as it tries to escape into the forest, while the sole survivor manages to escape down the road.

The battle over, Gael murmurs a small prayer of thanks to Corellon, then looks over the bodies of the raiders. Upon hearing Ragnos's query, Gael says,

"We can't be far, and it's still midday. Besides, such a large and organized raiding party seems odd. Is this region known for this?"
