Title: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: DrHorrible on October 15, 2011, 02:21:45 AM
Okay, I know I'm already playing in three other games and I might even submit a sheet for a fourth but none of these games really fulfill a need I have since I started playing this game 10 years ago.

I have always wanted to play a 12th level character of something like that but the highest I came to was 10th.

I have lots of ideas for characters that I'd love to try: Evil, Good, Melee, Arcane, Psionic, Divine and I'm up for any setting. I just need a DM and some players.

Do you think we can do this?

 :)

I'll play.  :D  Love to DM but can't, too many things on my plate. :/

I've never played in an evil game (ran one once), always wanted to try...

EDIT:  Okay, here's two options for my builds for an evil game:

1) Binder 5/Ur-Priest 2/Anima Mage 5 (--> B5/UP2/AM8/Knight of the Sacred Seal 5)
2) Warlock 5/Binder 1/Ur-Priest 2/Eldritch Disciple 3 (-->W5/B1/UP2/ED8/Hellfire Warlock 3/W+1)

I'm interested in playing as well. I've been wanting to play evil for quite some time now.. I don't even remember the last time I DID play it; all the Good games I played with my IRL playgroup clouded my mind from the Dark Side.. ;/

I'm fine with anything starting in the 10-12th level range, and I'd probably try out a Psi-Gish/Melee/Lockdown build of sorts, although I've got many ideas I want to try so this idea isn't set in stone.

Well, well.

I knew I wouldn't have a problem finding players, It's the DM that worries me.

LOL ya probly no shortage of players here. Evil games are very fun but can get into situations where people get pissed. Atleast in my IRL group  :devil

I know someone who wants to run a high level game, he plays in my RavenLoft game. His names Einherjar... I will poke him and see what I can do  :D

The trick with a successful evil game (if you don't want to run a PvP kind of thing) is to design the plot so the PCs are highly motivated to work together.  I've used four methods of doing so:

1) Common enemy.  If the rest of the world (or at least some subsection of it) is out to get you, you band together for mutual protection.
2) Intimidation.  Someone you are scared of tells you you have to work together or else bad things will happen.
3) Mutual goal.  You have some goal to accomplish which will be achieved much faster and/or more easily by relying on teamwork.
4) Esprit de corps (corpse?).  The party all care about each other, so they will work together.  Works pretty well with family members.

The problem with all of these is that under not-to-uncommon circumstances, one or more of the PCs (if they're being played in character) is likely to find advantage by betraying another of the PCs.  So... it's not easy.

See if you can get Bozwevial to restart the "Death of an Artist" campaign, and join it. It is definitely evil, and currently ECL 10. We have an airship haunted by an undead thrallherd (my character). :D

All right, I'm awake. :D I had a high lvl/epic lvl campaign I was going to run at some point - which dna1 has been bugging me to start - and I could probably tweak it to be an evil game without too much trouble. I was thinking that I would have players start at lvl 15 and it would run well into epic lvls (players would have their choice of four final bosses, all whom have CRs in the 40s :devil). It would be set in Forgotten Realms, simply because that is the campaign setting that I'm most familiar with, but anyone who wants to use material from another setting can talk to me about it and I'll probably allow it unless I can think of a good reason for it not to be allowed in FR. So ya, if you guys are interested, give me a yell and I'll tell you more about it.

Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: einherjar on October 21, 2011, 07:13:32 PM
The campaign starts simply enough, with the standard "giant hoard of savage humanoids appears out of nowhere and there is a great wrecking of shit" scenario. The complication is that the orcs, goblins, gnolls, hobgoblins, bugbears, lizardfolk, etc. that make up this hoard all have 10-15 character levels each, so their army - which, unlike most such armies, runs like a well oiled machine - is pretty much unstoppable, given that the average NPC soldier is only lvl 2 or 3. On top of that, they have giant war beasts the size of small castles that they use as living siege engines, so the situation for the world looks bleak. The first part of the campaign is surviving the onslaught and trying to figure out where the hell these guys came from. After that, there are several different courses of action that could be taken, but eventually you'll have to take down one of their four generals. Which one you go after and how you plan to kill him are, of course, up to you. :D In the process of this, you will naturally have to travel to exotic locations and meet some rather interesting people. Given that you guys wanted this to be an evil campaign, you would start out just trying to survive, but eventually you could try and take control of some part of the enemy army, with which to carve out a kingdom of your own. :devil

High-level survival sounds interesting. Are there any limitations regarding character's backstory? Can we use obscure magic systems as incarnum or pact magic?

I have nothing against obscure magic systems, but I will warn you that from what I've seen, a lot of the alternate magic systems fall behind in epic level play. Make whatever you want, just try to run it by me first. I do reserve the right to veto, but I can't really picture myself doing doing so, unless I thought something was silly, cause I did want this to be at least a semi-serious campaign. Also, letting me know what you're building will give me a chance to brush up on any of the alternate systems that I'm not familiar with before play starts. I know psionics, pact magic, both types of shadow magic, true name magic, book of nine swords, and invoking classes, but I've never actually used an incarnum caster. :D

Well I can say for certain I intend to play a martial/melee character. Spells get to time consuming in those levels of play.

What creation rules are we following. ecl 15, 32pt buy? anything else? any racial/template restrictions?  :devil

((edit- are we playing deathwatch or anything this weekend? my phones not working atm so just msg me here or pm me or w/e :D. i know me and dylan have saturday off... anyways ya lemme know.))

i will probly go some sort of crusader/warblade. or possibly a bone knight build... idk. its all up in the air right now. i just know i dont want to be a full caster... im also considering making a super mount character or a demoralizer. thoughts?

I think for now, everything's pretty open.

We don't know any of the specific character creation rules the DM might decide to use, the alignment of the party, what the others are doing and if we're looking for a precise theme for our party.

Just do what you like best, that always works.

I'm interested as a Master of Many Forms. Don't know how much I will be able to contribute on Epic Levels though, but I'm VERY interested in playing a MoMF. I've been wanting to play a MoMF for years.

Wild Shape Ranger 5/MoMF 10/Nature's Warrior 5 to be precise.
I'd write down my stats in a spoiler block every time I take a new shape, so that you don't have to keep track of anything ;)

I don't care if it's an Evil or Good campaign, just as long as it is not a Chaotic Evil campaign. Or at least I won't be CE. I can't play CE seriously.

I posted my possible builds in the beginning (I'm SO in btw).

I think my preference is the anima mage, but I could go either really.

EDIT:  I could also theoretically go with Incarnum... what's the ruling of the interaction btw Incarnum Apotheosis and Midnight Metamagic?

Love demoralizer builds, as you know.  :D  Speaking of Sovereign Speaker, Crusader or Warblade --> Divine Crusader --> Sovereign Speaker is a great combo, and you're epic ready w/ 9th-level spells.  (I know you said no full caster, but...)

If we're not doing evil, I have another idea (I always have 24589730256987 ideas), which is a Knight of the Weave - Ultimate Magus build.

If we choose to be the good guys I could go for a Shield Bashing-Battle Casting Paladin or for a Wild Hunt flavoured Ranger, with maxed Handle Animals or I might even try the full support character... Something along the lines of Bard, War Weaver, stuff like that.

Is moderate amount of optimization required? I'm thinking about beguiler/incarnate/soulcaster. If it's too weak, I can dip prestige bard/sandshaper for better spell list.

After dealing with spell list, I switched to straight binder. Simpler.

I'm glad you guys are exited. :D Anyway, for character creation rules, I thought that I'd probably go with a 32 point buy. As I said, starting ecl 15. If you want to play nonstandard races, that's fine, though I'd prefer it if you stayed away from the iconic outsiders (angels, demons, etc.). Again, I reserve veto power, but I doubt I'll use it. :D Just run it by me and I'll probably allow it unless I can think of a good reason not to. I thought you guys wanted an evil game, but it doesn't have to be one by any means. I'll let you all decide that.

I will advise you not to make your characters too one sided. You can probably get away with specialized offensive abilities if you're clever about it, but you really don't want to leave any holes in your defenses. At higher lvls of play, you can expect any intelligent enemies that are aware of your existence to spy and/or scry on you and prepare to take advantage of your weaknesses, unless you have some way to prevent them from doing so. :devil

Still interested here; my experiences with the FR setting made me not like it, but this is somewhat biased, so I'll give it another try. I'm not too comfortable with Epic play, but I guess I can try to deal with all the broken.

Notes chargen: what about dragon/dungeon magz? what about Traits & Flaws (none, 1, 2, more..? :p)? Refluffing of things from other campaign settings, if possible?
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: einherjar on October 22, 2011, 07:53:21 AM
Thank you for reminding me, because epic lvl play will inevitably become totally broken, I would ask that everyone go over the errata and 3.5 updates so that we can try to hold off on the brokenness as long as possible. :D

to Shiki: As to the other concerns, I use the mags a lot myself, so I'll probably allow anything you can find in them. I will continue my previous theme however and ask you to run it by me first. As for stuff from other campaign settings, I said earlier that if you run it by me I'll probably allow it unless I can think of a good reason not to. Most of the stuff that they put in campaign specific material really has no reason that it shouldn't work in other settings, even if it is designed for one in particular. As for traits and flaws, you may have one of each, but remember what I said about not leaving holes in your defenses.

to sirpercival: If you mean the bloodlines from Unearthed Arcana, then I'll allow them, but rather than using the bloodline lvls at 3rd, 6th, and 12th, just have the bloodlines have an la of 1,2, or 3 depending on the strength. It makes things much simpler, and it won't screw you at lower lvls because we're starting at ecl 15 anyway. As for LA buyoff, I'm not sure what you mean, so you'll have to explain it to me before I can say yes or no.

I'm ok either way.  Too many character concepts to choose from...  :shakefist

I'll compile them again here.

Evil party:
1) Binder 5/Ur Priest 2/Anima Mage 8 (-->X 5)
2) Warlock 5/Binder 1/Ur-Priest 2/Eldritch Disciple 7 (-->ED +2/Hellfire Warlock 3)

Non-evil party:
1) Wizard 3/Master Specialist 2/Knight of the Weave 1/Ultimate Magus 9 (-->UM +1/X 5)

Either way:
2 or 3) Illumian Binder 1/Wiz 1/Anima Mage 5/Incantatrix 8 (--> I +2/Totemist 2/Soulcaster 1)

Preaching to the choir, there  :banghead

Getting a little more specific, for me would be...

Evil:

1) Cleric 15

Non-evil:

1) Paladin Still need to find a progression that I like. Fist of Raziel maybe.
2) Ranger 5/Harper Paragon 4/Wild Plains Outrider 2/Seeker of the Misty Isle 1/Ranger 3

Other:

1) Whisper Gnome Rogue 5/Mountebank 3/Chameleon x/Charlatan x  I'm extremely inexperienced in this field so I'd have to really study it, but seems extremely fun to play.

a) Binder 15,
b) Binder 6/KoSS 5/Scion of Dantalion 4 (if bloodline EBL abuse is allowed).

Throwing my hat in the ring if it's not full yet. I'm fine with either party alignment, I'll do a mockup for good/evil/neutral and we'll see how it goes.

EDIT: curious about what powerlevel to run at. sirper's Illumian Binder 1/Wiz 1/Anima Mage 5/Incantatrix 8 is going to blow almost anyone else out of the water, especially martial characters, unless we are Spelldancers, Thrallherds and Planar Shepards.

I have a question regarding equipment. Standard wealth by level I assume?

What are your opinion on the MiC rules for adding common item effects as per 233-234?
I'm thinking of taking a (A good armor of some sort) and Robe of the Vagabond from Comp. Champion and add a few AC, Save and Constitution bonuses to them. I'd like to avoid getting bonuses from multiple items such as cloaks, tunics, rings, amulets etc. since I'll have to attach a Wild Clasp to each and everyone of them.

:D  I can stay away from that one if it makes everyone feel better... the full build is designed to get lots of free metamagic on everything (depending on a rules interpretation), so I could focus on party buffing, maybe go into war weaver once we hit epic?

If a combo of Anima Mage and Incantatrix is too much, I could also go Wiz 5/Incantatrix 10/Escalation Mage 5... but that's not much better.

Maybe I should stick to one of the other builds... ack!  All of my builds might be overpowered.  So yes, let me know (a) what power level we want, and (b) how optimized we want to be.

Honestly the UM build might be the most party-centric, if I go Illumian Wizard 2/Master Specialist 2/Knight of the Weave 1/Ultimate Magus 10/War Weaver 5.

And if all of them are overpowered, (a) :( (b) I have more ideas!  I could play a straight soulcaster, I could play the build I suggested to dna1 (Crusader 8/Divine Crusader 3/Sovereign Speaker 9), I could play a factotum...

Just play the one you like the most.

I, for one, am not interested in power level. I focus on building something pretty fluffy with a good balanced progression. In the end, I'll take the role the party needs the most, I guess.

If we go evil though, I'm definitely going for the Skeletal Jurassic Park theme. That's something I've been thinking about for a long time and this seems like a good chance to play it. Nothing overpowered though, I don't want to build an army, just walk around with a bunch of good ol' T-Rexes.

 :lmao

I wasn't trying to talk you out of Incantatrix, only opening up the discussion of the groups power level.
If LA buyoff is approved I'm considering Ghost 4(1-3 bought off)/XXX 5/Master Of Unseen Hand 3/Fiend of Possession 6.
If LA buyoff is not approved then Ardent X/Fiend of Possession 6? Maybe. I'm not sure.

the message here is that if we go evil, I want Fiend of Possession.  :)
I'd like to try Swiftblade Arcane Swordsage. @DM, if your willing to consider it, I'll draw up hard rules for it. From the hip, I'd avoid anything that breaks the game if used at will, like Charms, Time Stop, Summons, or Conjurations. I'd avoid BFC, maneuvers would all be direct damage. Stances would be buffs. Counters/boosts would be either nerfed swift/immediate spells or maneuvers as written.

Examples of spells I'd use:
Bloodwing,Treacherous Weapon
Seeking Ray, Scorching Ray, Heroics
Ray of the Python, Dispel Magic, Haste
Resilient Sphere, Enervation, Dimension Door
Spell Theft, Shadow Evocation, Streamers, Storm Touch
Greater Dispel
Grasping Hand
I can also scale my character to the party's power level fairly well by spell choice. Like if everyone goes metamagic reducing full casters, I'd learn Polymorph stance. Things like that.

Sounds like lots of you would love to go evil, so I guess I'll start looking up a couple of things for my cleric as well as starting to prepare the sheet.

 :lmao

That's the problem... there are too many!

I love the T-Rexes idea... and that gives bears's FoP some fun things to ride around in :D

DM said that we should worry about our defenses. Do you know good mean of protection against divination other than Vecna-blooded template?

I guess the thing to do is see what other chars we have and then fill whatever need.  I don't think either of my Ur-Priest builds will step on the jurassic cleric's toes too much, but the ur priest/anima mage might be too much overlap with our straight binder.  Also, we don't have an arcane caster right now...  so here's an adjusted set of possible builds for the evil party:

~Eldritch Hellfire Urlock Disciple (warlock 4/binder 1/ur-priest 2/eldritch disciple 9/hellfire warlock 3/mindbender 1 in some order)
~Incantatrix: infinite metamagic (wiz 5/incantatrix 10/totemist 2/soulcaster 3)

and for a non-evil party:

~Weaver of Epic Eldritch Baskets (illumian wiz2/ms2/knight of the weave 1/ultimate magus 10/war weaver 5, probably incantatrix in epic unless we work out an epic UM)

DM said that we should worry about our defenses. Do you know good mean of protection against divination other than Vecna-blooded template?

Well, there's Unseen Seer...

EDIT: Removed Incantatrix 2, b/c I'm already playing an Escalation Mage in another game or two.
EDIT: Removed yo dawg, because I'm not sure how sovereign speaker would work in Faerun and anyway I like the other ideas better.

Don't worry about overlapping. Two binders with Zceryll are better than one binder with Zceryll ;)

If you go ultimate magus route, what about spellthief and master spellthief? Crazy CL.

lol.  OK, then I'll add the anima disciple (divine anima mage) build back in, I guess.  Ack!  Too many choices.   :banghead

The UM build is less about crazy CL's and more about burning less-interesting KotW slots for free metamagic on the wizard slots, except when I want to bust out the CL 36 uncapped spell I ported into the KotW list from my spellbook.  I'd have to take several levels of spellthief to make it worthwhile... though I guess I could do so in epic.

EDIT: What's the verdict on custom items?

I'm interested in joining you, is there a slot available for an other player ?

As for characters concepts, i'm looking for opportunities to play a Dragonfire Adept ( a human or raptoran one, or if possible, a pixie) or a Savage raptoran paladin5//Binder 5//KoSS 4.

Man, lots of pact magic love!

I think I'm not going to do the anima disciple build.  It's too similar to a character I'm playing IRL at the moment, and enough other people are interested in playing a binder that we'll have a swiss army knife already.  Taking it out of the above post...

Now all we need to do is decide: evil, or not?

Like if everyone goes metamagic reducing full casters, I'd learn Polymorph stance. Things like that.

I don't know about "everyone", but that's pretty much where I'm headed unless I play Yo Dawg.

Love the arcane swordsage/swiftblade idea.  I've always wanted to see both of those classes in action!

EDIT: Also, my incantatrix 1 build is not valid for what I wanted to do with it, so I'm editing it as well.

EDIT: Would arcane swordsage w/ assassin's stance qualify you straight up for Unseen Seer?

I don't know about the others, but I'm doing a Master of Many Forms. I don't care if I'm going to be the weakest party member, I've been wanting to play one for years. Since the MoMF doesn't really kick into high gear until level 12, the options to play one have been very scarce.
So that's what I'm doing, if I make any final cut (if there's going to be any such).

Good, we can combine item. Now let's pimp those threads.

Oh and I think this is officially going to be awesome since it seems like there's plenty of Binder love here.
I love me some binders. I've got some useful links in my signature for y'all, just so you know.

I prefer to not play Evil personally, but I can do it just fine. I'm heading for Nature's Warrior and that has "Any Neutral" as a prerequisite.
So I can go either Neutral Good, True Neutral or Neutral Evil.

Are you doing Wildshape Ranger or Druid?

I just discovered the Wild Reaper variant druid in Dragon 311, which gets fast healing, fast ability healing, and turn undead at level 12.  Yes, that's a druid with DMM.

As for LA buyoff, I'm not sure what you mean, so you'll have to explain it to me before I can say yes or no.

I'm sure that he meant this (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm).

Ya as I said before we dont use LA buy off on our games IRL, so I doubt he will be allowing it here. I could be wrong though.

Regardless evil or good, I will be making some sort of melee badass. Possibly a charger/dungeon crasher.. who knows. So many ideas to choose from... needless to say it will be OverPowered and completely ridiculous  :D.  But in order to keep up with the casters in that range it will have to be, right?  :devil

edit: alternatively, I may go with a Fiend of Possession build and just possess a war troll or something....  (actually I rather like that idea. Now Im really considering a FoP or Thrallherd.. or possibly Man with the Burning Eyes character. I dont really want to be a caster, but I do like the idea of possessing bad ass shit  :smirk)

By the way:

Evil:

FoP / Dreadmaster, if you can get them both in.  Have 3 cohorts to possess!  Or, FoP + Marshal, because your auras should still work when possessing.  Better yet, FoP + Dragon Shaman, and destroy an entire army w/ metabreath feats!

Not evil:

How about an artificer?  Or, a factotum/trapsmith/swiftblade.

einherjar, another question (which may not be relevant, depending on which char I play): how do you feel about domain wizards in general?

Would you allow a domain wizard of the Incarnum domain (from MoI) in particular?  Yes it's a cleric domain, but you don't have to worship a deity to take it.

New idea. Best idea so far. Psionic Lich (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9557.msg326149#msg326149) Ulitharid (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9557.msg343980#msg343980) Mind Flayer (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9557.msg322757#msg322757). Working towards DemiLich-dom (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9557.msg443275#msg443275) in epic levels. This is also character motivation.

So is that an official vote for an evil party?

I'm leaning more and more to the hellfire dude, which would make irrelevant my questions about incarnum & domain wizards.  Is dedicating to an elder evil (Zargon) an acceptable qualifier for both Ur-Priest and Eldritch Disciple?

Lich mockup (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=339534). Fluff juices flowing.

Was sent on an important diplomatic mission to the surface, to study XXX race and their lichdom. Whilst performing 'Illithid diplomacy' it took it upon itself to become a lich, to further understand the process. It keep it's brain alive in a jar, functioning as it's phylactery. Every so often it funnel it's knowledge into the brain, and siphon out information sent by the Elder Brain. The plebs of the Mind Flayer community see it as a heretic Alhoon, but high ranking Flayers(Elder Brain, Ulitharids) understand the plan. It continues it's mission to understand Lichdom from the inside perspective and to experiment with surface politics. Rumors of a more potent Lichdom have been heard, and it searches to find the truth.

Evidence of a planar invasion force has been deduced, intriguing it in how the surfaces races will react. It does not feel threatened, merely curious.

I don't care enough to vote against it. Neutral Evil it is then.

Oh and have no fear, I don't do backstab, it's pretty damn boring.

Are you doing Wildshape Ranger or Druid?

I just discovered the Wild Reaper variant druid in Dragon 311, which gets fast healing, fast ability healing, and turn undead at level 12.  Yes, that's a druid with DMM.

I'm going for Wildshape Ranger. I know it's worse than going Druid, but it's a mental thing.
I can't bring myself to loose all those caster levels if I'm a Druid, but if I'm a Ranger then it's okay.
Also I don't want to have any Animal Companion and that's also something I don't think you should give up on as a Druid.
I don't want to have to deal with any other characters, summons or undead creatures, I won't like the book-keeping.
So, it's either loose 10 caster levels and a very good companion or... loose 3 BAB pretty much.

Now to find a good item to push those AC bonuses onto. Either an Arm or a Body slot... hrrm.
Going to add a +4 Con bonus and either a +4 or +5 resistance bonus to saves onto the Robe of the Vagabond and planning on pushing up the deflection bonus on the Shadow Cloak from DotU.
Now it's just to decide if I should go for adding an armor bonus to an item or to go for a +1 Wild armor pf some sort. I suppose that depends on if I feel like I don't want to miss out on high DEX forms. Hrrm..
Oh and got to get some kind of miss chance as well. Never forget that. 200 000 gp to spend, 80% of that will go to defenses I think.

I abstain as well, concerning the alignment. If Evil, I'd rather be on the Lawful evil side.
just to refine what I'm working on :

character one :
 pixie 4 - Dragonfire Adept 11.
32 point-buy + pixie modifiers: Str : 8  Dex : 20 Con : 16+2 =18 Int : 18 Wis : 16 Cha : 20.
Feats : Dodge, Weapon Finesse (Pixie feats) ; Draconic heritage (black dragon) (1rst), Entangling Exhalation  (3rd), Flyby Attack (6th), Quick Reconnoiter ( 9th). later feats : Darkstalker (12th), Improved Flight (15th).
Invocations : Magic Insight (1st), Endure Exposure (3rd), Voidsense (6th), Voracious Dispelling (8th), Chilling Fog (11th)
Breath effects : Frost Breath (2nd), Slow Breath (5th), Thunder or Sleep Breath (10th).

build purposes : recon & infiltration, mobility, battlefield control

character two
Feral  half-fey raptoran - Paladin of Tyranny (Charging Smite ACF) 5 Binder 4- Knight of the Sacred Sceal 3 (CL = 15)
32 point buy + modifiers : Str : 20 + 2( 4th & 8th level) =22. Dex : 10. Con : 14. Int : 10. Wis : 12 Cha : 19+1 (12th level) =20.
Feats : Power Attack (1rst), Weapon Focus (3rd),  Flyby Attack (6th), Sacred Healing (9th), Ignore Special Requirements (Binder 4th free feat), Divine Might (12th).
build purposes : mobility through flight, übercharger, rebbuke undead machine thanks to the Green Lady. Secondary healer with Sacred Healing.

EDIT : crap. the second character won't work as intented if evil, Sacred Healing require Turn Undead, and I can't really be a LN paladin, nor a LG one in an evil team.
So, LN Cleric 1 Hexblade 4- Binder 4- KoSS 3 then.

I have three playable ideas for characters.

1) (I presume that bloodlines works as they do RAI) Binder 1/Ardent 2/Anima Mage 5/Scion of Dantalion 2/Knight of the Sacred Seal 2 with some major bloodline (in order Binder 1/Ardent 1/Bloodline 1/Ardent +1/Anima Mage 1/Bloodline +1/Anima Mage +2/Scion of Dantalion 2/Anima Mage +1/Bloodline +1/Knight of the Sacred Seal 2/Anima Mage +1) which grants me EBL 22 and ML 17 (with practiced manifester).

2) Binder/Ur-priest/Anima Mage (playable, but I don't want to mess with such broad spelllist)

3) Straight Zceryll-focused binder.

Argh, now I'm second-guessing myself. :facepalm

Is the hellfire ur-lock too much of a one-trick pony?  I feel like it is... sigh.  Also, the fact that we have no arcane casters bothers me.

Plan #268: Can we re-fluff the Knight of the Weave to base it off of the Shadow Weave instead?  That way I could play my UM build (which I think I might like the best of all) and still be evil.  We can add shadow weave magic as a feat prerequisite...?
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign

Ur-Lock is a full divine caster. It's not a one trick pony at all. It's a full divine caster.

The lack of arcane casting is notable however. Why does KotW need to be shadow to be evil? I think an evil Weave user is way more interesting.
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign

If we have too many divine characters I can switch to the Rogue/Mountebank/Charlatan/Black Dog, but I won't go arcane.

Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign

I don't think the problem is too many divine as much as not enough arcane. And I think a Rogue poisoner would fall behind the Ur Priests, full manifesters and binders pretty fast.

OK, I will take on myself the position of evil arcane caster.  Since that's what I want to do anyway.

However, knight of the weave is any non-evil... which is why I wanted to re-fluff it to be shadow weave.

But if I don't do UM, then I don't need KotW.  So I'll put something together (something FINAL) and post it in a little while.

I guess I could go on with a Gish since everyone in the current party and everything else in FR will have magicks and etc; being mundane could somewhat be totally terribad.

If not, any thoughts on what the party would need?

So far we have:

1) Lich Illithid Psion (bears)
2) Binder (carnap)
3) Pixie DFA (harald)
4) Some sort of martial character (dna1)
5) wildshape range MoMF (shadowhunter)
6) jurassicleric (drhorrible)
7) psiotheurgist (sirpercival)

If you want to rock a gish, you could try the amazing divine gish idea I had, entitled "Yo Dawg":

Yo Dawg, I herd you like crusaderz -- Crusader 7/Divine Crusader 1/Sovereign Speaker 7 (--> SS +2/DC+2/C+1)

BAB +17, 9th-level casting from 10 domain lists, IL 14, SAD Charisma.

Don't want to be that guy, but seven level 15 characters will get way out of hand. Has DM said how many people will play?

Illithid (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=339534) is coming along great. Still searching the web for Mind Flayer naming patterns before I decide that. Stats are mostly done, nailing down persisted spell effects and items. Psicrystal still needs work however. Fluff is mostly done too. Excited to play this character.

My psiotheurgist build is in the works.  Here's some basics (still deciding on feats, etc.):

Str 8 Dex 10 Con 14 Int 20 (17+3) Wis 16 Cha 9

LE Illumian Focused Conjurer 1/Ardent 2/Cerebremancer 2/Incantatrix 5/C +1/I +2/C+1/I+1 (for FC1/A2/C4/I8)

Feats: SF: Conjuration, Improved Initiative, Improved Sigil: Krau [flaw], Extend Spell, Iron Will [Otyugh Hole], Persistent Spell, Psiotheurgist: Conjuration, Twin Spell, Practiced Manifester: Ardent, Quicken Spell, 2 free.

ML 12 (6th-level powers), CL 15 (7th-level spells).

Any suggestions?  The build doesn't shout "EVIL!", but I guess that'll be how I play him.

Someone asked me about leadership, and that is fine, just realize that a cohort is weaker than the rest of the party and can become the weakest link if you depend on them. A valuable but underpowered cohort can make an excellent target. :devil Also, remember that you need epic leadership to improve your cohorts and followers into epic lvls.

Agreed.
Im not sure what the player cap will be, I can only assume 4-6 players. I know his preferred party size is 4.. so who knows.
But since I found the DM.. + he is my friend IRL, its pretty safe to say Im for sure in  :devil

Still tossing around build Ideas. Its a little hard atm since Im in the hospital currently with newborn twins! :P
But Im sure I will come up with something outrageous fairly soon  :smirk

Well it seems nearly impossible to get away from casting completely and still be relevant around these levels... So after thinking it over for awhile I came up with a few builds here.
Torn between a blackguard or some sort of RB..
I was liking a Runescarred Berserker idea so I kind of fleshed that out.
something6 / Blackguard7 / NarDemonbinder7

Paladin of Slaughter 2/Hexblade 3/Ur-Priest 2/Bone Knight 10/Blackguard 2/(Something 1)

half-minotaur or maybe something tauric -6/ Spirit Lion Totem Barbarian 1/ Runescarred Berserker 8
(f)Endurance, (f)Power Attack, (1)Imp. BR,  (3)Shock Trooper, (6)Combat Brute,  (9)Knockback, (12)Steadfast Determination,(15)Rampaging Bull Rush, IronWill(otyugh hole) Flaws (Shaky), (Vulnerable)
1. Divine Favor, True Strike, See Invisibility, Blank
2. Darkvision, Invisiblity, Keen Edge, Protection from Elements
3. Death Ward, Freedom of Movement, haste
4. Righteous Might, Restoration
5. Anti-Magic Field or Heal
Leadership is allowed? Um... well I'm just not going to take it. All the problems with having a 6 player game? Having 4 players with Leadership is just as bad. And it puts people in a position where if they DONT take Leadership they're woefully behind everyone else.

Speaking of what, one of us (bot me, because I'm only 12th level) should get artificer as cohort. We could keep him in portable hole, constantly producing cheap magic items for us.

I can free a feat for leadership if you wish, and as I will have quite a high Charisma, it will be almost near the max. I am not accustomed to artificers though, so if some of you want to build it...

four questions :
- are every one in ?
- where are we in the forgotten realms ? shall we be from some particular place ?
- If I am in, how much have we available to spent, and is there banned items ? I do have UMD, I can take a few wands, any suggestions ?
- shall I take a level of marshall - pixie 4 DFA 10- Marshall 1, thus no greater invocation at char gen, but instead the minor "Cha to Dex" Aura and thus +5 to each team member's initiative ?

Yes, Eddie (a thrallherd who makes optimal use of all of his minions...) is certainly the biggest pain-in-the-ass character I've ever played, and pretty much everyone in that game has leadership... Boz is a champ (or masochist) for dealing with it...

And I can say that by far the most difficult character I've DMed for is Head_of_Vecna's minion-master in my Fall of Pun-Pun game, who has some of the Leadership+ Tome feats... Having a crazy amount of well-built minions means you can literally have an answer for just about every problem. Also, the PCs being able to blanket an area with crowd-control from multiple sources makes designing encounters very difficult...

Firstly I had planned straight Binder 15. But after comparing my character to others and warning of DM, I decided to improve my character. And in the blink of an eye the game become so high optimized, that I'm barely able to contribute anymore. Damn that ;)

My only issue with this is if one person takes Leadership, everyone else falls far behind. Balance-wise it's an all-or-nothing feat, and I'd rather play no Leadership than all Leadership.
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: sirpercival on October 24, 2011, 09:41:52 PM
I had simply suggested Leadership so that we could all have custom items without spending our own XP.  But if we think that's OP (Artificers are tier 0, after all), then we can just skip it.
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: Harald on October 24, 2011, 09:55:33 PM
For Leadership, a whole team with it seems a tad too much. I don't mind if there is only one, as the artificer will enhance the whole group; personally, I'm not here to be the most OP of the whole lot - hell,  I do think  I have the lowest power level, the DFA is a tier 3 class, even perhaps tier 4.

EDIT : by the way, working on the background of said DFA, as well as her portrait. I draw a little bit, so if someone wants a character portrait later, I'll try to provide ;).

I'd love one.  I'll give you a description when I have it finished (there's still the chance my char concept gets the kibosh...).

EDIT: Your cohort would be even worse (9th level)!  Oh well... maybe we should just forget about leadership.  If we can buy custom items then great, otherwise we'll have to do without.

And anyway, if my char concept gets nuked, then how about I just play an evil artificer?  :D
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign

Im sure there will be plenty of dropped goodness, lets skip the Leadership shall we? Im sure the DM will have his hands full with us already... Also I know if I was the DM and everyone was taking leadership I would cut the player slots dramatically.

As far as optimization goes, I also am not trying to make the most powerful character in the group. Im just trying to keep up with abunch of Tier 1's, using minimal casting. So of course I will have to pull out the big guns  :devil

This power level is somewhat getting way over my head, and we're not even starting at Epic levels. :shakefist I'll skip Leadership and just buy someone to PsyRef my head as far as crafting things goes, I think, unless someone do take a cohort Artificer... Oh, by the way, any thoughts on what PrC I could take after Dread Necro 1/Refluffed Rainbow Servant 10/Prestige Paladin of Tyranny or Slaughter 4?

What party role are you looking to go after?

You could throw down Pale Master, you could go with one of the Disciples from BoVD, etc.

Is the power level of my character too much for everyone?  I can go elsewhere (again...) and stop optimizing so much... I could do my divine gish idea but then we'd have very little arcane magic...
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: bearsarebrown on October 25, 2011, 01:38:45 AM
Character powerlevel comes more from how it's played. What's your characters shtick?

I teleport around the battle making full attacks/grappling while throwing out powers with Schism. My ballpark AC/Saves are in my character sheet mockup a couple pages back.
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign

Well, basically, uber-BC like only a CL 27 conjurer (with lots of free metamagic) can do, in the middle of a ML 27 temporal acceleration.  Also, shutting down and stealing opponent's magical effects with Incantatrix ridiculosity (speaking of which... how do I possibly fit an Item Familiar into my feats?  I'm so feat strapped...).

I'm not sure exactly where the evil part comes in...

BTW, we don't need an artificer!  We have an evil anima mage, so Astaroth + Evil Party = DARK CRAFT XP AND GOLD.
Title: Re: [D&D 3.5] ECL 10+ Campaign
Post by: Shiki on October 25, 2011, 03:46:23 AM
I've got no real problem with powerful chars; I'm just really surprised it got at that level before entering borked-epic. :p

But anyway, I'll have to think a bit about my char's shtick, but it needs 5 levels of full casting to get 9ths, since its base is Dread Necro and I'm losing 2 levels of progression with Prestige Paladin. Battle Blessing etc. Maybe Incantatrix 4/Mindbender 1 for Mindsight at 18th? Even this can Gish it out like I wanted at the beggining. In Epic, maybe dip Crusader and get into refluffed Ruby Knight Windicator..

Alright, I'm posting a few ground rules here before this gets too out of hand. :D

First off, leadership. I will allow one of you to have leadership. If you want an artificer cohort, you can have one, but you better make sure to protect them, cause like I said, any intelligent high lvl enemy will have an information network to either scry or spy out your weaknesses, and an artificer cohort would have a massive target on their back. :devil On a related note, I am perfectly alright with custom items in theory, but I would ask that you run them by me and explain their function before pulling them out in game. Rules for item creation can in the back of the magic item section of the DMG or at the d20 SRD.

Second off, I've been asked about magic/psionics transparency. I prefer to use the "psionics is different" rule variant. I do this for two reasons: one, that seems to be the way things work in the novels that the game is based off of, and two, it just makes more sense to me. As such, in my games magic and psionics cannot interact directly in most circumstances. This means, among other things, that magic ignores psi resistance and psionics ignore spell resistance, psionic powers can be freely manifested in an antimagic field and spells can be freely cast in a null psionics field, etc. Conversely, energy resistances and immunities apply normally regardless of origin, as they negate the effects of magic or psionics rather than having the two interact directly. There are certain abilities - class features, feats, etc. - that allow them to interact when they otherwise wouldn't. Final say on what is or is not bypassed is, naturally, up to the DM (me).

Finally, I am willing to allow 5 players. This will be first come, first serve. Dna1 and sirpercival have already contacted me with, so their slots are secure. The other three slots are open on a first come first serve basis. PM me if you want in.

Put a spoiler on that picture please, its pretty good though. You going to do anything with art or just for fun? I draw and paint as well  :D

On to the build. As I said its RAW(read as written) and not RAI(read as intended), using some cheese. Its no more OP then some of the kobold shenanigans. The symbiote template states
“Symbiotic” is an acquired template that can be added to
any two living creatures of the following types: animal,
humanoid, plant, or vermin. The two creatures need not be
the same type. One (hereafter referred to as the guest) must
be at least two size categories smaller than the other (hereafter
referred to as the host).
A symbiotic creature has characteristics of both the host
and the guest, as noted below.“Symbiotic” is an acquired template that can be added to
any two living creatures of the following types: animal,
humanoid, plant, or vermin. The two creatures need not be
the same type. One (hereafter referred to as the guest) must
be at least two size categories smaller than the other (hereafter
referred to as the host).
A symbiotic creature has characteristics of both the host
and the guest as noted below:
Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to aberration.
Hit Dice: A symbiotic creature uses the host’s Hit Dice
and Constitution modifier.
Speed: A symbiotic creature uses the host’s speed and
modes of movement, including maneuverability if applicable.
AC: Same as the host.
Attacks: A symbiotic creature uses the host’s base attack
bonus and attack forms. However, if the guest has a different
attack form (such as a stinger), the symbiotic creature can
make a secondary attack with that weapon. All attacks use
the host’s Strength or Dexterity modifier, as appropriate.
If the guest is Tiny or smaller, using its attack(s) would
normally require entering the opponent’s space. Since it is
now part of a larger being, the only way to bring its attack(s)
to bear is by entering a grapple and getting a hold.
Damage: The host’s attacks deal the host’s normal
damage. The guest’s attack deals its base damage plus 1/2
the symbiotic creature’s Strength modifier.
Special Attacks: A symbiotic creature can use a special
attack of either the host or the guest but cannot use both in
the same round (unless it somehow has an additional partial
action, such as from haste). Attack forms that require the
use of the guest’s entire body, such as constrict, are not
allowed unless the guest detaches (see below). Special
attacks that involve prolonged contact with an opponent
may require the host to make grapple checks each round to
maintain the hold.Special Qualities: A symbiotic creature has the special
qualities, both advantageous and disadvantageous, of both
host and guest.
Detach (Ex): If the survival of a symbiotic creature is
threatened, its two members can separate in an effort to
save at least one of them (often this is the guest). This
process deals 1d6 points of damage to the host. Detaching is
a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity,
which may be made against host or guest. A symbiotic creature
may also separate to better bring to bear a host’s or
guest’s special attacks.
Reengaging is not a simple matter; it takes one day of
complete rest. If the reattaching creatures are disturbed
during this process, each takes 1d6 points of Constitution
damage from bleeding, and they remain separate.
Base Saves:
A symbiotic creature uses the better of the
host’s or the guest’s base saves.Abilities: Use the physical scores (Strength, Dexterity,
Constitution) of the host, and the mental scores (Intelligence,
Wisdom, Charisma) of the guest (minimum Intelligence 3).
Basically by cheesing the greenbound template onto a sprite i turned it into a plant subtype. Its still up to DM final ruling... although I dont really see the big deal. If I wanted to take the time I could make a complicated FoP/Thrallherd and accomplish much cheesier things...    :P

It's just for fun, Drawing is just an hobby ;).

Symbiotic Template is indeed a very very sexy thing... especially when your symbiote is a templated creature. How about a Parangon Legendary Greenwood Pixie, just to be utterly silly ?  :lmao

i've converted the DFA using said Symbiotic Template, with a Greenbound Pixie. A normal Pixie symbiote, or hell just a true pixie is fine enough if it is too cheesy for our poor DM.

EDIT : Something I remember. If I take the Charm Invocation, as I am non-good, I can take a dip into Mindbender. A Telepathic range of 100 feet might be useful for her to scout efficiently, isn't it ? As well, I'm tempted to swith Magic Insight ( free Identify for everyone) to See the Unseen ( See invisibility at will). Your thoughts ?

Well, crap, we lost our binder.  OK, new plan.  I'm taking Leadership or a level in Thrallherd, and my cohort/thrall is going to be a binder 5/ur-priest 2/anima mage 6.  Using Astaroth and Knowledge (Religion) checks, he can craft anything (including psionic items, no problem taking Craft Universal Item) using dark craft XP and gold; he can supply up to 8th-level divine spells, I can supply up to 7th-level arcane spells or 6th-level psionic powers (probably, depending on my adjusted build), or whatever else -- since I have to take Magic as a mantle to force transparency and make my character work, I have UMD as an ardent class skill.  Thrallherd might be better, as I can attract believers and sacrifice them, and they'll probably be happy about it since people who are psychically resonant with my badass self will want to give their lives "for the greater good".

Great... now I'm seriously considering changing my dude's name to Gellert Grindelwald.

I'll post updated builds in a little while.

@dna1, your dude looks great, except (a) isn't it 32pb, and (b) don't we only get 1 flaw?

@harald, that drawing rules.  I'll give you descriptions for my dudes (including thrall) if you don't mind taking the time.  I love having character sketches (I know a couple fantasy artists, so I've had a large number of them over the years), but I have no drawing talent myself.

EDIT: Does a kalashtar's mindlink ability qualify him for Thrallherd?

Yes!  Good.  Haha.

OK, here's an updated party (I'm losing track):

1) Psiotheurgist Thrallherd
   1a) Anima Disciple Thrall
2) Symbiotic Runescarred Berserker
3) Symbiotic Pixie DFA
4) Gravity's Rainbow Servant DN
5) Wildshape Ranger/MOMF
6) Jurassicleric

We have one too many... :(  I like all these character concepts!

Question for einherjar: How do you want to handle the items made by the Anima Disciple, with dark craft xp and gp?
Question #2: Are you allowing vestiges from non-ToM sources?

OK, here are the sheets for my Psiotheurgist and his thrall.  Still need to do spellbook, powers, items, buffs, as well as write backgrounds and the description/personality for the thrall.

Durgo Flinn, Megalomaniac Genius (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=340048)
Male LE Magic-Blooded Kalashtar Wiz/Ardent/Cereb/Incant/Thrall, Level 1/2/4/7/1, Init +8, HP  / , Speed 30 feet

Tall and extremely thin, without an ounce of spare flesh on him.  His eyes are two chips of black stone that bore into you, and his short-cropped black hair is grey at the temples.  He wears robes of blue and purple dark enough to be black.

Arrogant, paranoid, domineering.  Dedicated to power in all things.  He believes that with enough power he can reshape the world, to fix all those pesky quirks of reality that bother him.  People flock to him because he is a charismatic leader, and they willingly give themselves in sacrifice to his cause, "for the greater good".

The character is almost ready, I only need to do items, background and name.

EDIT : here she is with items. 185 459 gc spent, got some change for expendables. Just need a name, a personnality and a background.

Considering the party would be well-covered on the divine side and i can't have the Seismosaurus I always desired, do you think a Whisper Gnome Rogue 5/Mountebank 3/Charlatan 5/Exemplar 1/Duelist 1 could prove useful?

With something like that I'd end up hitting a low-forties AC (pre-buffs) and without considering the possibility of +X skill items I'd end up around a +50 on Bluff checks, that's not bad. Plus, the fun of playing a con master.

I guess the character could also handle stealth to some extent.

Not necessarily. I haven't abandoned my Cleric idea yet, it's just that upon discovering that I couldn't take a Seismosaurus my enthusiasm faded a little.

Yeah, I know, sounds stupid but I actually care a lot about that kinda crap so I wanted to see what you thought about my other idea.

Now, seeing Harald pixie I know my rogue would probably be overstealthed but it would still be a fun character to play even though I don't how much useful it could prove to the party...

Sooo... with an unlimited supply of willing thrall sacrifices and an ur-priest/anima mage, I could theoretically use dark craft to make whatever I want and completely ignore WBL for the whole party.

I'm not going to do that.

What I propose (since that sort of thing IS in my character's history and personality), is instead to offer this alternative, subject to DM approval of course: I can produce one NON-GAME-BREAKING custom item for each party member, separate from WBL, also subject to DM approval.

Thoughts?

I will make a few more custom items for myself (ALSO subject to DM approval), but they will be pretty minor, and I'm going to basically just charge myself half price for them and use dark craft to cover the xp.

Does anyone have an issues with this, or any suggestions for tweaks to the plan?

I made an evil Rainbow Servant variant here (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=6373.msg210338#msg210338), based on being a servant of nagas instead of coatls. Feel free to use/adapt it as you need.
This looks quite good.

einherjar, what's your say on this one? Do I use PhaedrusXY's one or do I simply go and switch detect evil for detect good, extra domain (Good) for extra domain (Evil), grow wings for a more fitting (the looks) way of flight, and something else than detect thoughts which goes well with the outsider the PrC'd be flavored to? Also, can I use Paladin's ACFs with Prestige Paladin?

On a sidenote, anyone got any (evil) outsiders' idea(s) that would be cool for this?

Here's a quick build stub as of now, any suggestions welcomed:

Female adult magic-blooded human dread necromancer 1/rainbow servant 10/prestige paladin of tyranny 4/x 5/x+

Abilities: Cha>Con>w/e?

1—Versatile Spellcaster
h—Heighten Spell
f—Sanctum Spell
3—?

9—Mounted Combat
12—Battle Blessing
15—Sword of the Arcane Order

anyway, if you use this or a succubus, I will need to swap Charm from my invocation, you will have telepathy and charm monster at will.  i'll get an other invocation instead, like Humanoid Shape or Voidsense.

^Uh? It's the outsider for which the PrC (Rainbow Servant) will be adapted on, not for the character's race. I'm not sure I'll get all of those you mentioned with the PrC, :lmao.

my bad. it's what happened when your read a post too fast, while doing something else, such as a character portrait ;).

sirpercival :sounds very good. How about using your artificer for general purpose items (such as Cloak of Resistance for everyone), or to create group items : CLW or lesser vigor wands, that kind of things...

Rakshasa, Pit Fiend, Efreeti?

We could do that, but I thought it was more interesting to get custom items.

And here's a good ol' Hydra!

Zydra (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=340550)
  N-E Awakened Zombie 10-headed Hydra  , Level  , Init +0, HP 85/85, DR 5/Slashing, Speed
AC 12, Touch 8, Flat-footed 12, Fort +3, Ref +3, Will +7, Base Attack Bonus 5
10 Attacks Bite +12 (2d8+8, x2)
 (-2 Size, +4 Natural)
Abilities Str 27, Dex 10, Con -, Int 1, Wis 10, Cha 1
Condition None

I have to say my crew is pretty crappy combat wise and should fall pretty easily, but we can use Littlefoot as transport if we want and in battle against armies or even a single enemy they can prove quite distracting.

If at some point I'll feel the need to step it up a notch we'll go hunting for Dragon cemeteries, so that I can raise a 50+ HD zombie or I could simply start creating Mummy Lords.

 :D

For the custom item... I'd love something for my guys... A collar of Desacrate or something like that. They sure need the save and attack bonus.

I thought the original Rainbow Servant was actually a pretty crappy PrC... until you hit level 10. I made mine to be actually decent at all levels, instead of basically sucking for the first 9 and being awesome at the last. This was mostly because it was for a PbP in which a guy really wanted to play an evil one, but it will be a while before he hits the last level (if ever...).

Afterthoughts: Would anyone mind if I retrain/PsyRef my first three feats?

I don't mind... though when you're making a char at high level, what's the point?  Don't your choices have to be legal at the time you took them?  So it's not like you could retrain your first level feat to Craft Construct or anything.  And you still have to qualify for all your prestige classes...

I just can't think of a scenario where that matters.  DCFS, sure -- you can get rid of crappy feats like bloodline feats for good stuff.  But if it's beneficial for you, I don't mind :)

The results here is like DCFS'ing; to qualify early for RS I need all those feats at 1st level, but later (read: at 6th level and thereafter) even if I lose the benefit of those feats I still qualify for RS. None of these feats (Versatile Spellcaster, Heighten Spell and Sanctum Spell) are bad per se, but having the option to not keep them can free up some space for other things, like DMM or something.

Since we have our party set, can we get a game thread going?

Also, I'm cool with some collars of Turn Resistance or whatever it was for the Jurassicleric (as long as einherjar approves them).  Anyone else have ideas for their custom items?  For dna1's beatstick, I'd suggest an item of Kinkiness (continuous Sadism & Masochism). :devil

I've filled out Flinn's spellbook with every possible spell I would want him to have (not including spells of 7th or higher he might have picked up).  If there's a restriction on how many spells he can start with I'll cull it down.

I don't mind either.

Dear DM, I do have a question : where are we going to begin in the Forgotten Realms ?  I do have some ideas for my character background, but I'd rather verify if it is compatible with the place first. I'm not very used to Faerûn, especially their fairies...

Is there the traditional Seelie/Unseelie division among the faes ?
If it is there, then my DFA, Amaryllis Evergreen (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=339698) is a petty noble from the Winter court, a Margravine/Marquise/ Marchioness of some forgotten swamp in a fae forest. Said swamp was once ago the lair of a powerful black dragon, who died during a mating contest. Dragon blood oozed in the murky waters, feeding the plants, including the very proteus where Amarillys was born.
By some strange magic, she was somehow connected, attuned to dragons, sharing a dint of blood with this majestuous creatures.
By her birth, her duty was to lead other sprites in battle,to defend their homeland. That was what she was educated for, at first. But in her flesh, she was feeling a different call. Even more curious than usual for her race, she started to study, to experiment, to collect any information concerning the dragons. And one day... almost by accident, she managed to unleash a terrifying breath. It was frightening, sure, but it was... liberating. powerful. HER power.
Since then, she has travelled a lot, in order to master her gift.

As her social status, either she is an outcast from her homelands, travelling in a quest of self-improvement, or she is some kind of ambassador or spy from the local winter court. Both options can be interesting, which one is better to integrate the plot ?

Amarillys is around 75 cm tall, very pale with white hair, and stricking, cold, deep blue eyes. She is regal in aspect, very proud of her nobility among the feys, always clad in elegant court robes.  She is not a mischevious flying little prankster, thank you, and will correct any fool who dares to not show her proper respect. A fey, and a dragon-blooded, Amarillys is mercurial in her mood. A creature of powerful emotions and whims, she is able to change in an instant from happy laughter to cold anger. She might cry in true pain if she discovers a dead fallen nestling, and be completely indifferent to pleas of help from a whole family trapped in a burning house, or studying with complete fascination the different glints of terror in the eye of a tortured prisonner.
Ever vigilant, somehow arrogant, calculating, she values strict order and loyalty. Noblesse Oblige, she is true to her word, if you manage to obtain it. However, she  has no compassion for others and kill without qualms if doing so is convenient. She is the queen on a game where everyone else are her pawns, obstacles or non-entities. The world is a stage where she is the prima donna, grand entrances are a given and breathes of flames punctuation. Besides, if things get too hot, she has always her personnal invisible stage door, isn't she ?
